Abstract

In the history of Christianity, evangelization is a very important task to develop the Christian community. A prominent evangelist during the early period of Christianity was the Apostle Paul. At first he was a persecutor of the Christians. However, his life changed radically after his encounter with the resurrected Jesus on the way to Damascus. This experience changed his life from a church persecutor to a militant evangelist. One of the missions described in the Acts of the Apostles was the missionary work in Ephesus (Acts 19:1-12). Ephesus was a city that became the center of commerce and rhetoric in Asia Minor. In that place, Paul preached the gospel and developed his congregation. In presenting this article, the author uses a descriptive or narrative method primarily to answer two basic questions: 1) What is the model and process of evangelization that the Apostle Paul carried out in his missionary in Ephesus, especially those narrated in Acts 19:1-12 ?; 2) What is the contribution of Paul's model of evangelization to modern evangelization? The author finds that the model and process of Paul's evangelization in Ephesus includes dialogue about the baptism of the Spirit, preaching in synagogues, teaching in "lecture halls", and proclaiming the Gospel through miracles. While the contributions to the modern model of evangelization include a dialogue model with people who do not know Jesus, a teaching or catechism model, and an evangelization model that relies on the power of God.

Abstract

This study aims to display the development of the meaning of parrhesia Παρρησία which heavily influenced evangelization. Parrhesia is one of the most essential concepts in ancient Greek which added richness to the LXX and the New Testament. Parrhesia means eloquence, frankness, articulation and freedom of speech. In daily life, parrhesia is related to the expression of somebody’s mind (action de tout declarer, tout exprimer).  Greek culture also denotes parrhesia as the political right to express somebody’s mind. The concept of parrhesia also contains the aspect of freedom in using the language. Indeed, the Hellenic root of parrhesia sets the course of the meaning of the word in the Scripture. This paper is divided into three parts to have a solid grasp of the meaning of parrhesia and its influence on evangelisation. The first elaborates on the development of the meaning of parrhesia using Foucauldian discourse analysis. The second explains how the word is used in Scriptural text (LXX and the New Testament). Finally, the scriptural meaning of parrhesia is perceived in the context of evangelization and the Church’s prophetic voices throughout history

Abstract

Inculturation permeates the life of the Catholic Church since its conception, making it stay relevant and creative with its evangelising mission amidst a multicultural world. This paper is a study of inculturation within the discipline of biblical exegesis. After a brief explanation about the essence of inculturation, it explores some forms of popular intercultural exegesis or contextual hermeneutics which was developed in Africa. One of them is the “four-legged stool” method designed by Elizabeth Mburu. We applied Mburu’s method to interpret the image of the “good shepherd” which was used by Jesus in John’s Gospel narrative (Jn. 10:1-12), a familiar passage to most Indonesian Catholics. Mburu’s method puts the metaphor align with the theological, literary, and historical context of the local reader. In this case, the research considers the meaning of “a good shepherd” understood through the Indonesian mindset. As a result, the biblical metaphor gained extra meaning from native roots.

Abstract

This study investigates the effects of the First Spiritual Exercises (FSE) on mental well-being and Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) among credit union activists. Contributing to the growing intersection of spirituality and organizational psychology, the study offers empirical evidence on how structured spiritual practices shape workplace behavior. A quasi-experimental design was applied to 53 activists, with the intervention group drawn from Credit Union Kridha Rahardja and the control group from Credit Union Kasih Sejahtera. Pre- and post-test analyses revealed significant improvements in mental well-being and OCB following participation in the FSE. Furthermore, mental well-being was found to have a statistically significant influence on OCB scores. These findings affirm that spiritual exercises may serve not merely as private devotion but as strategic levers for fostering psychological resilience and pro-social behavior in organizations. Managers may consider integrating reflective spiritual practices as part of employee development initiatives to promote healthier, more engaged work cultures.

Abstract

The Catholic Church has much understanding of the sources of their faith in God. One of them is revelation, it was believed that come  from God Himself. It contains communication between God and human. The understanding of revelation as a means of communicating the presence of God and all his righteousness aims to enable human to have faith in Him. The process of responding to God's revelation is called the process by which human has faith. Therefore, faith and revelation are inseparable from each other. Revelation makes people believe in God and faith makes people able to accept God in their lives. Revelation that is peculiar to the Catholic Church is very different from revelations according to common and other religious views. These revelations are delivered through Scripture, both in the Old Testament and in the New Testament, each of which has the same emphasis on revelation in different ways. Today one of the tasks of the Church is to participate in continuing God's revelation in daily life in various ways, certainly in today's all-digital world. Revelation in this digital world is often referred to as digital revelation.  God's revelation remains present in every age through His presence in the Church, which makes more and more people believe in Him.AbstrakGereja Katolik memiliki pemahaman yang mendalam tentang sumber-sumber iman mereka kepada Allah.

Abstract

This paper explores the motivations and perceptions of God among Indonesian migrant workers in Hong Kong, focusing on their unique experiences and faith struggles. The study, guided by Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA), is based on the narratives of five female migrant workers with 6-12 years of experience in Hong Kong. From our study, compassion is identified as a fundamental motivator for Indonesian migrant workers. The study finds that all respondents maintain a positive God-Image, perceiving God as their Helper, Caregiver, and source of strength. Their faith is identified as a core motivation for survival. The Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37) is employed to illustrate this approach. Finally, this paper tries to contribute to offering a unique perspective on the lives of Indonesian migrant workers in Hong Kong, emphasizing the critical roles of compassion, faith, and a positive God-image in their experiences, and promoting a fresh approach to addressing their struggles.

Abstract

Humans can never live alone, but they will always need other people in their lives. Human philosophy calls this intersubjectivity. Humans are always part of a larger community than just themselves. It is not surprising that Aristotle said that humans cannot live in isolation. From here, Christian ethics guides us that respecting others is part of our faith and that our fellow human beings are equal creations of God – not limited by any criteria created by humans. However, Jesus demanded more from His followers. Not only to understand "who is a neighbour", but Jesus wanted His followers to "be a neighbour" to others, even to "enemies". From this, the so-called "Spirituality of Universal Brotherhood" was born, where this "Spirituality of Universal Brotherhood" is ultimately not just a mere "concept", but a "common project" that is constantly lived and never ends in this life to realise a harmonious, peaceful, and salvific common life for everyone.
