Abstract

The main purpose of this research was to investigate Indonesian, English, and Japanese linguistic characteristics of Short Text Messages (SMS) performed by students. In particular, this research tried to seek linguistic characteristics in terms of typography, morphology, and syntax. Furthermore, the long term purpose of this research was to find out the difference of linguistic characteristics of those languages as well as its socio-pragmatic implication of the short text messages. This research applied content analysis for its method which made use of records or document as the main source of data in terms of recording, official records, text book, reference, letter, autobiography, pictures, movies, cartoon, etc. Meanwhile, technique of analysis included several stages such as defining text, categorizing text, verifying text category, assessing the accuracy of text coding, revising the criteria of text coding, reassessing the category of text coding, coding entire texts, and finally reassessing the accuracy of coding. The identical language characteristics between SMS used by the student to communicate with their lecturers and universal language charateristics are found in this research. The research expectedly provides the main resource for improvement of language learning that enables students to use language appropriately.

Abstract

Collection of short stories Senyum Karyamin when analyzed by sociology of literature has several characteristics or aspects of sociocultural (Java man) which is prominent coloring its thirteen short stories. These aspects are the religious aspect, which is about the religious attitude of human beings. It can be seen in the short story of Syukuran Sutabawor. Moral aspects, including human dignity and kamanungsan be seen on Ah,Jakarta short story and Syukuran Sutabawor short story. The fatalistic and nrimo aspects contained in short story Senyum Karyamin. Aspects of prasojo and aja dumeh seen in short stories Senyum Karyamin, Ah,Jakarta, and Kenthus.In addition to the sociocultural characteristics, image or picture in a collection of short stories this Senyum Karyamin, involving directly the values of its sociocultures namely: harmony, love and brotherhood, compassion, moral purity, human dignity, and so on. Those values are strong enough coloring short stories collected in Senyum Karyamin.

Abstract

In a psycholinguistic study, children at the age of 3-5 years old are considered at a differentiation period. In this period, children have already acquired their mother tongue, in terms of adult’s basic grammatical laws. The language which function as a means of communication starts working. Their vocabularies are quantitatively and qualitatively growing as their perceptions and experiences upon the world start to share with others including their expressions of feelings, in this case, their hillarious expression disclosure. However, in this period, children have not completely acquired adults’ linguistic structures. Thus, it is that estimated there are some differences between children’s hilarious expression structural dislosure and adults’. In addition, hilarious expression structural incompleteness may result in adults’ error perceptions on what the children mean. Based on data analysis, it is shown that children at the age of 3-5 years old have already aquired various linguistic aspects on hilarious expressions, including phonological, morphological, and syntactical aspects. one factor encouraging children to show their hilarious expressions is achievement, such as when accepted as a friend, given a gift/surprise, finding something, and feeling capable of doing something.
