Abstract

This research aimed to determine the effectiveness of animated video learning media on students' pronunciation mastery at SMP Negeri 11 Banda Aceh. The researcher used quasi-experimental research where the data was gained from oral tests. The study population was the ninth-grade students of SMP Negeri 11 Banda Aceh in the academic year 2022/2023. The sample was taken by using a purposive sampling technique. There were 226 students as population and 42 students as sample, the total number of students from the experimental and control classes. The results showed that the mean score of students' pronunciation mastery in the practical class was 36.66, becoming 82.05, with a 124% improvement. Then, the mean score of students' pronunciation mastery in the control class was 44.86, becoming 55, with a 23% improvement. Both classes have the same initial classification: poor (36-55). In the experimental class, there was an improvement in qualifications from poor (36-55) to good (76-85), while in the control class, there was no improvement in capabilities which was still in poor (36-55). The t-test analysis was presented by applying a 0.05 level of significance with the 20 degrees freedom (df=21-1); the t-test value in the experimental class was more significant than the t-table (14.63>2.080), and in the control class, the t-test value was also greater than t-table (5.61>2.080). Based on the results, animated video learning media significantly affects students' pronunciation mastery.

Abstract

This research aimed to find out and describe the students’ perception on speaking practice at Warkop English Orchestra (KOPLO) English Club Community. The researchers used descriptive quantitative method in which the data were gained from questionnaire consisting of 10 close-ended questions. There were 22 members of the club selected to be the respondents of the study.  Data were analyzed by using a five-point of Likert Scale, mean score, weighted mean score, combined mean score and score interval. The result presented that the highest mean score is 4.09 as in question number 11. The members frequently use vocabulary that they have encountered when they speak English. The lowest score falls to number 10 with a score of 3.27 which means that students are not really fluent without stutter when speaking English. Based on the combined mean score, the respondents show their good perception of speaking practice at KOPLO which obtained the mean score 3.62. It means community plays a very important role and has a positive effect on students who join it, one of which is being able to increase student vocabulary. However, students still have deficiencies in fluency.

Abstract

Evaluation has been an essential component of the teaching and learning process for as long as it has been a part of the teaching and learning process itself, which is something that takes place all the time at every educational institution. This is because the assessment has a tight link with educators in the process of transferring information to analyze how much students' abilities have developed over the course of the learning process and while assembling each assignment in the process of learning. This study tries to shed light on the index of difficulty index found in a set of prediction test in Ekadanta tutoring book. This study employed descriptive qualitative approach. The data source was 20 questions from Ekadanta tutoring book. The subject of this study were 11 students of English Department at Universitas Iskandarmuda, Banda Aceh, Indonesia. The data collection was carried out by instructing the students to do the test within 40 minutes. After the data obtained, they were analyzed using index of difficulty formula and categorized into its index level. The results shows that from 20 question, there are 8 questions fall under difficult index, 8 questions are categorized into moderate, and the other 4 questions are considered easy in the level of difficulty index. It is concluded that the test is good and descent from the perspective of the difficulty index. It is later suggested that future research would involve more questions and test sets as well as participants in studies alike.

Abstract

The goal of classroom management is to offer students supplementary learning opportunities. A teacher employs many tactics to efficiently organize students, such as allocating space, time, and resources, to enhance their learning process. The objective of this study is to examine the administration of classrooms at SMPN 1 Sukamakmur, Aceh Province, with a particular focus on the difficulties that instructors have as a result of insufficient resources. The study also seeks to examine the class management process that is associated with the instruction and acquisition of the English language. This study used a qualitative research design with descriptive approach. The study observed one English instructor who instructed a group of seventh-grade students as a representative sample, utilizing a combination of observation and interview as data gathering techniques. The results of the study illustrate the successful execution of classroom management, devoid of any facility-related problems. Moreover, the classroom management methods are in accordance with the lesson plan specified in the report.
