Abstract

Background: At the time of the research, there were only a limited number of instruments accessible for recognizing the knowledge, attitude, and behavior of the Indonesian population concerning disaster preparedness. Objectives: The goal of this study was to modify and evaluate the reliability and uniformity of a survey that individuals can complete on their own, focusing on their knowledge, attitude, and behavior related to disaster preparedness. Methods: The translation of this tool into Bahasa Indonesia went through four phases: first translation, back-translation by experts, pre-testing, and cognitive interviews. The evaluation of the tool's accuracy involved a study with 250 volunteers using a cross-sectional approach. The validity of the questionnaire was checked based on its content and structure, and its reliability was measured by looking at internal consistency and stability (Cronbach's alpha). Results: The CVI scores for knowledge, attitude, and behaviors ranged from 0.80 to 1.00. Regarding knowledge, the exploratory factor analysis (EFA) outcomes indicated the presence of two factors with eigenvalues surpassing 1.0, collectively explaining 71.4% of the total variance. The loading factor for 25 items was observed between 0.34 and 0.65, within the acceptable threshold of 0.3. In terms of attitude, the EFA results revealed a single factor with an eigenvalue exceeding 1.0, accounting for 86.2% of the total variance. The loading factor for 18 items ranged from 0.30 to 0.50. Similarly, for behaviors, the EFA findings displayed the existence of two factors with eigenvalues greater than 1.0, explaining a cumulative 79.7% of the total variance. The loading factor for 22 items ranged from 0.30 to 0.60. The Cronbach's alpha values for knowledge regarding earthquake and tsunami preparedness stood at 0.763, for attitude it was 0.736, and for behaviors, it was 0.760. Conclusion: The recently implemented scale designed to assess the knowledge, attitude, and behavior of communities regarding disaster preparedness has been verified to possess satisfactory validity and reliability, making it suitable for survey applications within Indonesia.

Abstract

Early marriage has emerged as a critical issue in societal development, especially among adolescents, attracting attention at both international and national levels. With the prevalence of early marriage reaching up to 41.9% in some countries, including Indonesia, this issue demands special attention to mitigate its negative impacts on education, health, and social welfare of adolescents. This study aims to analyze the relationship between adolescents' knowledge and their attitudes towards early marriage in Sindang Heula Village, Serang Regency, in 2023, focusing on how specific knowledge about the consequences of early marriage influences adolescents' attitudes. The research methodology employs a cross-sectional design, selected to evaluate the influence of knowledge on adolescents' attitudes towards early marriage at a specific point in time, involving a total sample of 91 respondents from the adolescent population in Sindang Heula Village, which totals 1,090 individuals. Univariate analysis results show that 55.0% of adolescents have insufficient knowledge about early marriage, and an equal number exhibit negative attitudes towards early marriage. Bivariate analysis reveals a significant relationship between knowledge and adolescents' attitudes towards early marriage. Based on these findings, this study recommends that stakeholders, especially health professionals, regularly conduct socialization or education about early marriage to ensure that the community, particularly adolescents, understand the impact of early marriage, thereby encouraging a decrease in early marriage rates.

Abstract

Preeclampsia remains a major contributor to maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. This study examined associations of maternal age, parity, body mass index (BMI), and a history of hypertension with preeclampsia at Kartini Hospital, Rangkasbitung, Indonesia. An unmatched case-control study used medical records from January–December 2025. The sample comprised 216 women who delivered at the hospital: 108 preeclampsia cases selected by total sampling and 108 non-preeclampsia controls selected purposively. Categorical associations were tested using Pearson's chi-square test, with odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) derived from 2×2 tables. High-risk maternal age (<20 or >35 years) was associated with preeclampsia (OR 4.28, 95% CI 2.25–8.14; p<0.001), as were parity (OR 0.32 for primigravida versus multigravida, 95% CI 0.18–0.58; p<0.001) and obesity (BMI ≥30 kg/m²; OR 8.45, 95% CI 2.44–29.27; p<0.001). All nine women with a hypertension history were cases (p=0.002), precluding an uncorrected OR estimate. Maternal risk screening should begin during preconception and antenatal care, with particular attention to age, obesity, obstetric history, and chronic hypertension.

Abstract

Breastfeeding self-efficacy is an important psychological factor that affects the sustainability of breastfeeding. Low Self-Efficacy can contribute to early cessation of breastfeeding. This community-based education activity aims to improve the Self-Efficacy of breastfeeding through video-based lactation education for postpartum mothers in the working area of the Leuwidamar Health Center, Lebak Regency, in 2026. A total of 13 postpartum mothers were involved in the activity. The implementation stages include initial measurement using the 14-item Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale-Short Form (BSES-SF), 15-20 minutes of education about the benefits of breast milk, position and attachment, lactation management, and handling of breastfeeding problems. The educational video was shared via WhatsApp so that it could be replayed, then measured again one week after the intervention. The results showed an increase in the average score of BSES-SF from 35.38 (SD 1,261; range 34–38) to 65.92 (SD 3,068; range 60–70). The paired t-test showed a statistically significant change (mean difference of 30.538; p=0.0001). Video-based lactation education is feasible as a promotive strategy in primary health services and has the potential to strengthen maternal confidence in breastfeeding. Further implementation needs to be complemented by individualized counseling as well as evaluation of long-term breastfeeding practices.
