Abstract

This is a study of the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI), especially in language learning and teaching, especially in the 2021 stages. AI has taken significant roles in learning activities that focus on student-centered learning, namely the customization of the learning speed, direct feedback, and assessment which have benefited their intended users. It has also addressed language learning-teaching challenges, including pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, cultural differences, and motivation. However, some issues need to be addressed and regulated to ensure the safe and effective use: privacy and security of the user, technical expertise, bias, cultural sensitivity, a lack of human interaction, ethical considerations, and over-reliance on technology. Furthermore, the benefits and limitations have yet to be determined based on their dominance or balance: On one side, AI enables the learners to decide how they want to learn, while the instructors have a virtual assistant to construct curricula, materials, and assessments. On the other hand, its impact on the students in general in other learning aspects must also be considered. Therefore, it is essential to investigate further its effectiveness in how One approach is to integrate AI-based language learning tools with traditional language instruction, providing learners with a comprehensive and balanced language learning experience. For example, AI-based tools can provide learners targeted instruction and feedback on specific aspects of language use. In contrast, traditional language instruction can provide learners with opportunities for authentic language use and interaction with native speakers and peers (Lambelet & Chassot, 2019). Abstract

This research focuses to analyze adjacency pairs in the selected Korean Englishman YouTube Video titled “K-Pop Idol NCT Johnny fed us luxury Korean Beef BBQ!” using Yule’s (1996) theory. This study is using the qualitative descriptive method to analyze the data. From the conversation uttered by speakers, there are some patterns that they automatically produced, called adjacency pairs. The adjacency pairs occur when two or more people talk and respond to each other’s questions. Based on the analysis, there are 25 adjacency pairs; (15) Question–Answer, (1) Command–Compliance, (1) Request–Acceptance, (1) Offer–Acceptance, (5) Assessment–Agreement, (2) Suggestion–Acceptance that were found in the conversation between Johnny, Josh, and Ollie in the Korean Englishman YouTube video titled “K-Pop Idol NCT Johnny fed us luxury Korean Beef BBQ!”. From all the data found in this study, the functions of utterances are in accordance with each type of adjacency pair thus conclude that adjacency pairs are automatic sequences of two utterances produced by two speakers with the second utterances conversing about the first utterance. Abstract

This study examines language registers in Safiya Nygaard's YouTube channel from a sociolinguistic perspective, analyzing how she varies her communication style across different social contexts and audiences. As a digital content creator known for beauty and fashion videos, Safiya Nygaard attracts a diverse audience, making her channel an ideal platform for examining digital language variation. The study aims to (1) describe the types of registers used in her videos and (2) identify their functions. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, it analyzes selected video transcripts using content analysis. The language is classified according to Martin Joos' five register types and Jakobson's six language functions. The findings indicate that the casual register is the most prevalent (60%; 18 out of 30), suggesting a predominantly informal style in her content, followed by the consultative register (40%; 12 out of 30). In terms of language functions, most utterances (83.3%; 25 out of 30) serve a referential function, emphasizing information, while 13.3% (4 out of 30) are emotive, reflecting personal expression, and 3.3% (1 out of 30) are conative, indicating minimal persuasive intent. These findings contribute to the broader understanding of language variation in digital communication, demonstrating how influencers such as Safiya Nygaard maintain a balance between engagement and informativeness.

Abstract

This research explores the practices of distance learning in enhancing English speaking skills among migrant workers at the Community Learning Center (PKBM-PPI) in Taiwan. The research purpose is to understand how remote educational strategies are tailored to meet the unique needs of migrant workers, who often face challenges such as irregular work schedules and limited access to educational resources. Using a mixed-methods approach, the study combines quantitative data from pre- and post-course assessments with qualitative insights from participant interviews and instructor feedback. Key findings indicate that the integration of technology, such as mobile learning applications and online discussion forums, significantly improves learners' engagement and speaking proficiency. Additionally, the flexibility of distance learning programs allows workers to balance their educational pursuits with occupational demands. The study concludes that well-structured distance learning initiatives, supported by interactive and accessible content, can effectively develop English speaking skills among migrant workers, contributing to their personal and professional growth. The findings provide valuable insights for educators and policymakers aiming to implement effective language learning programs in similar contexts.

Abstract

The Community Service Program (PkM) aims to preserve Sundanese dance culture through the development of a dance arts curriculum at LKP Bina Lestari Sumedang. The background of this activity is the declining interest of the younger generation in traditional dance due to the influence of popular culture and the lack of relevance of the existing curriculum. The methods used include needs analysis, the development of digital-based learning modules, intensive training for educators, cultural campaigns through social media, and strengthening learning infrastructure. The results of the activity show the achievement of the new vision and mission of LKP Bina Lestari, the preparation of a structured curriculum for three levels (beginner, proficient, expert), and the creation of innovative modules that integrate cultural values and digital technology. This program also expands social impact through collaboration with art communities, cultural figures, and the surrounding community. With a collaborative approach and the utilization of science and technology, this activity has succeeded in increasing the awareness, skills, and interest of the young generation in Sundanese dance, while also strengthening local cultural identity amidst the tide of globalization.
