Abstract

Abstract

The Riau Islands has 96% ocean and own large potential of capture fisheries resources compare to amount of capture fisheries production which not optimal because increasing fuel oil prices and It fishing gear is not comparable with foreign vessels with modern fishing gear. This study aims to design saving energy fishing vessel including lines plan, general arrangement, and 3D drawings, Analyzing Ship stability and Hydrostatic according to regulation sailing to Riau Islands Province area. This vessel provided by solar panel which can distribute the energy to generator and can saving fuel oil until 4725 liter in 15 days operation with stability calculation and hydrostatic analysis comply with regulation. This vessel can increase capture fisheries production with innovation of renewable energy in this vessel.

Abstract

The suitability of technology can only be assessed in the context of the overall process of social and economic development. Means of assessment include technology assessment where one examines the broad impact of a technology, and socio-economic opportunity analysis where one starts from social needs and looks for technological solutions. The integration and balance of different levels of technology is as important as the selection of individual technologies. Superior Engineers in the 21st Century do not design for the community, but design with the community and enable design by the community. With the right training and education, engineers can help change communities for the better by equipping community members to meet their own needs and implement their own design responses. Higher Education Institutions are present in society and have a very big role in building the nation, Higher Education also occupies a strategic position in making changes in society through the function of transforming Human Resources (HR), Science and Technology (IPTEK) and social through the implementation of Tridharma activities which includes education, research and community service. With this background, the Raja Ali Haji Maritime University Maritime Engineering Study Program carries out Community Service in the form of Appropriate Technology (TTG) training in the form of ship model making training or known as Hydromodelling at the Hang Tuah Tanjung Uban Naval Vocational School, Bintan, Riau Islands. The training stages include introducing maritime insight and technology, explaining ship parts and then providing training related to ship design and production. The training has received a good response from the school and the students showed enthusiasm in carrying out each stage of the training.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The increasing demand for energy and the continued reliance on fossil fuels in Indonesia present serious environmental and economic challenges. This community service project introduces an innovative solution by developing bio-briquettes from cassava peel waste in South Toapaya Village, Bintan Island. The program applies a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach to engage the community in a hands-on learning experience, from problem identification to production and evaluation. Through interactive socialization and technical training, villagers—especially farmers and housewives—were educated on the benefits of converting plantation waste into renewable energy. The process involved drying, pyrolysis, mixing with natural adhesives, molding, and testing of the resulting briquettes. The produced bio-briquettes demonstrated effective burn duration up to 42 minutes with low smoke output, making them a viable alternative to firewood. This initiative not only reduced organic waste but also empowered the community to create economic value from local resources. While the project achieved its educational and technical goals, limitations included a lack of laboratory validation and small-scale outreach. The results show promising potential for broader implementation in rural energy innovation.
