Abstract

The suitability of technology can only be assessed in the context of the overall process of social and economic development. Means of assessment include technology assessment where one examines the broad impact of a technology, and socio-economic opportunity analysis where one starts from social needs and looks for technological solutions. The integration and balance of different levels of technology is as important as the selection of individual technologies. Superior Engineers in the 21st Century do not design for the community, but design with the community and enable design by the community. With the right training and education, engineers can help change communities for the better by equipping community members to meet their own needs and implement their own design responses. Higher Education Institutions are present in society and have a very big role in building the nation, Higher Education also occupies a strategic position in making changes in society through the function of transforming Human Resources (HR), Science and Technology (IPTEK) and social through the implementation of Tridharma activities which includes education, research and community service. With this background, the Raja Ali Haji Maritime University Maritime Engineering Study Program carries out Community Service in the form of Appropriate Technology (TTG) training in the form of ship model making training or known as Hydromodelling at the Hang Tuah Tanjung Uban Naval Vocational School, Bintan, Riau Islands. The training stages include introducing maritime insight and technology, explaining ship parts and then providing training related to ship design and production. The training has received a good response from the school and the students showed enthusiasm in carrying out each stage of the training.

Abstract

This study investigates the precision of coordinate positioning using Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) technology, focusing on GNSS Neo Series modules and the GSM SIM 7000E module. The research aims to address the lack of comparative studies evaluating these GNSS receivers simultaneously. A field test spanning 24 hours was conducted to collect data on satellite acquisition and Horizontal Dilution of Precision (HDOP). The GNSS systems were deployed in a controlled environment at the Class I Meteorological Station Hang Nadim, Batam. The system developed comprised GNSS modules (Neo 6M, Neo 7M, Neo 8M, and GSM SIM 7000E), an ESP32 microcontroller, Arduino UNO, and a Micro SD shield module. Data processing involved converting coordinates to meters and calculating longitude and latitude errors. Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) analysis and one-way ANOVA were performed to assess accuracy and compare the GNSS receivers. Results indicate that the GSM SIM 7000E demonstrated superior satellite acquisition, leading to higher accuracy in coordinate positioning compared to the Neo Series modules. The study also identified optimal data collection times for accurate dispersion. These findings provide valuable insights into selecting and deploying GNSS receivers, enhancing performance in location-based services and scientific applications.

Abstract

Maritime transportation plays a vital role in mobility within archipelagic regions, and Fast Patrol Boat are an efficient choice to meet the needs of defence and maritime patrol in Indonesia. The innovation of adding bilge keels to the vessel is expected to enhance the performance of fast patrol vessels. This study aims to identify and evaluate the motions of Fast Patrol Boat to understand their performance under various sea conditions. Fast Patrol Boat operating at high speeds require a responsive pitch motion, making them well-suited for safeguarding Indonesia's archipelagic waters. The analysis results show that patrol Boat equipped with bilge keels perform better in terms of response and manoeuvrability, especially at high speeds, compared to vessels without bilge keels, although for other degrees of freedom such as heave and roll motions, there is no significant difference between the two types of vesselsÂ
