Abstract

It is important for students to learn scientific literacy because it’s related to how students understand the environment and face issues in modern society. Students with excellent scientific literacy skills are able to apply the concepts and facts learned at school in everyday situations. The purpose of this research is to provide an overview of students’ scientific literacy at SMA Negeri 11 Pontianak. The research method used is descriptive research with a quantitative approach. The population under study consists of grade XI science students, including XI IPA 1, XI IPA 2, and XI IPA 3. Sample selection employs purposive sampling technique, considering specific factors such as students who have received instruction from teachers in the subject of electrolyte solutions and possess a good academic abilities. A total of 37 students from class XI IPA 2 are chosen as research samples. Data collection technique involves measurement and communications, utilizing instruments in the form of five essay questions that have been tested for validity. Based on the research data, it is known that aspect of explaining scientific phenomena reached 60,47%, while in determine the properties and samples of solutions from electrical conductivity experimental data, percentage is 75%. To provide conclusions and opnions on electrolyte test results from everyday life phenomena reached 61,93%. If averaged, overall, students’ scientific literacy skills are in the moderate category, with an average score of  65,251%.

Abstract

Chemistry learning in schools still tends to be teacher-centered, so students have limitations in connecting subjects to real life. The material on the mixed separation related to basic competence skills will be achieved through chemical experiments, but there is no chemical laboratory in schools. The learning activities only use textbooks borrowed from the library, so there is a need for other teaching materials that can help students to carry out chemistry experiments in the form of PjBL based Student Worksheet (LKPD) on separating mixed. The aim of this research is to asses the feasibility of PjBL based LKPD in mixed separation and determine the responses of students and teachers. Research and development (R&D) uses the ADDIE model, but this research only reaches the development stage. The subjects in this study were PjBL-based worksheets on mixed separation materials which were tested on a limited basis (15 students) and a large scale (35 students) at State Vocational High School (SMKN) 7 Pontianak. Data collection techniques used are direct communication techniques and indirect communication. Data collection tools are interview guides, feasibility assessment sheets, student and teacher response questionnaires. The expert assessment using the Gregory test showed that the criteria were very feasible,  with a very high validity value of 1.00 for content, presentation, graphics and language aspects. The response test results with limited and extended trials obtained an average percentage of 85% and 86% respectively, and the response test results for 3 teachers obtained an average percentage of 88%. The results of the assessment indicate that the PjBL-Based Student Worksheet (LKPD) is very suitable for use in supporting chemistry experiments on mixed separation material in learning activities.

Abstract

Canistel fruit is a fruit that is not cultivated and is not known to many people because of limited information about this fruit. In the field of biochemistry, analysis of the essential amino acids contained in canistel fruit has never been carried out. The aim of this research is to determine the type and levels of essential amino acids in Canistel fruit as a source of vegetable protein in an effort to diversify food. The sample used was Canistel fruit. The method used was chromatography using UPLC with a C18 column, PDA detector, gradient pump system, and column temperature of 49⁰C. 15 types of amino acids were obtained, consisting of 7 essential amino acids and 8 non-essential amino acids. Essential amino acids are L-Fenilalanin (994,64 mg/kg), L- Isoleusin (704,58 mg/kg), L-Valin (876,69 mg/kg), L-Lisin 1.068,36 mg/kg), L- Leusin (1.199,45 mg/kg), L-Treonin (857,16 mg/kg), and LHistidin (421,03 mg/kg)and 8 non-essential amino acid are L-Serin (957,38 mg/kg), L-Asam glutamat (2.137,7 mg/kg), L-Alanin (1.070,01 mg/kg), LArginin (838,15 mg/kg), L-Glisin (1.101,56), L-asam aspartate (1.900,63 mg/kg), L-Tirosin (141,90 mg/kg), and L-Prolin (1.146,84 mg/kg).

Abstract

The lack of teaching materials that are able to explain the formation of chemical bonds causes students difficulties in learning. Therefore, this study focused on developing guided inquiry-based e-module of chemical bonding. This study aims to determine the feasibility and students response to guided inquiry-based e-module of chemical bonding. This study employs research and development (RD) using ADDIE model which is limited to development stage. The due diligence was carried out by material, media and language experts. The respondents involved were 31 students of class XI MAN 2 Pontianak. The research instruments were the feasibility sheets, media, language, and response questionnaires. The results of the feasibility of e-module test is k=1 (very high validity) and student response tests k=0.85 (very interesting). Those findings indicate that the E-module is very feasible to use

Abstract

The high level of pollution in Indonesia causes a large number of free radicals that have the potential to cause several diseases. To overcome this, antioxidantsare needed which function to prevent heart disease, anti-aging, strengthen the immune system, protect the nervous system, and nourish the eyes. One known antioxidant is - carotene. This study aimed to analyze the -carotene content of patikala fruit (Etlingera elatior (Jack) R.M. Smith) originating from Pangandaran (West Java) as an alternativesource of vitamin A and antioxidants. The form of research is experimental. The researchparameters were linearity test, detection limit and quantitation, system suitability test and determination of -carotene levels. Analysis of pure -carotene standard solution usingHPLC obtained the results that the maximum absorption occurred at max 450 nm, linearity (r) was 0.9999 or close to the value 1. Determination of -carotene content was carried out in duplicate and the retention time of patikala fruit was 8,564 minutes and 8,597 minutes, respectively. levels of -carotene obtained by 0.1 ppm or 10 mg/100 g, while the need for -carotene per day is 5-6 mg/100 g, consuming patikala fruit of 50 grams per day can meet the daily needs of -carotene.

Abstract

The level of achievement of students at State Senior High School (SMAN) 1 Putussibau in the material of the mole concept only reached 20%, and this figure cannot even depict the true potential of students in understanding the mole concept due to indications of cheating in every monotonous evaluation. DOMIA (Chemical Domino) was developed to address the problem of a lack of variation in evaluations while also reducing the incidence of student cheating in the evaluation process. DOMIA was developed with the R&D principle using the ADDIE model, and each process will be revised according to needs and field findings. The development of DOMIA took place after the needs analysis process through direct interviews with subject teachers and several randomly selected students. The developed DOMIA was then validated to test the level of feasibility and reliability based on Guilford indicators as a reference in assessment. DOMIA has Kr = 0.97 and Ks = 0.947, indicating that DOMIA is highly valid and very reliable, making it ready for implementation and serving as a new evaluation tool that has not existed in the chemistry subject before.
