Abstract

The objective of this study was to find the types of errors made by the grade nine junior high school in using Simple Past Tense in writing narrative. The classification of errors in this study is divided into four categories; they are omission, addition, misformation, and misordering. The subject of this study consists of 17 students of nine grade of SMPN 2 Sidoarjo who have more than 100 words writing. The method used in this study was descriptive analysis method to describe students? errors and analyze the data by using formula: = × %, P=Percentage, F=Frequency of errors made, N=Total of students? errors. The data was taken from the test; it was written test. The findings showed that there are 63 errors made by the students in the first test. The most frequent errors made by the students in their narrative writing focused on the use of simple past tense is misformation which consists of 33 errors or 52%,  omission with 15 of total errors or 24 %,  addition with 12 of total errors or 19 % and  misordering 3 of total errors or 5%. The second test showed that there are 9 errors made by the students in the second test.  The most frequent error made in second test by the nine grade students of SMPN 2 Sidoarjo is omission with 5 of total errors or 45 %. The second is Misformation with 4 of total errors or 36 %. The next is Addition with 2 of total errors or 19 %. The last is Misordering 0 of total errors or 0 %.

Abstract

Study entitled "Code Mixing Used by English Literature Students of the Seventh Semester in Dr. Soetomo University" is a sosoiolinguistic study. The selection of objects is based on the environment of Indonesian and English bilingual languages in a circle of seventh semester English literature students at Universitas Dr. Soetomo. This thesis uses descriptive qualitative method. This study aims to determine the type of Code Mixing and the reasons of using code mixing by employing Hoffman's theory. Finally, it was revealed in the findings that the most dominant type of code mixing were Used by English Literature Students of the Seventh Semester In Dr. Soetomo University is Intra-Sentential Code-mixing in the form of phrases. Meanwhile, the dominant intra-lexical code mixing found is verb. As a whole, code mixing is found in the form of inserting English codes into Indonesian utterances. Involving changes to pronunciation only shows four data. This research also reveals the most dominant reasons for using code mixing among seventh semester students is to express group identity. Keywords: Sociolinguistic, Bilingual and Code-Mixing.

Abstract

The science of language is known linguistics. Syntax is a branch of linguistics that studies the set of words, phrases, clauses in a sentence. The researcher focuses her research on sentence pattern in Make Over lipstick advertisement found in instagram. The objective of this research are to analyze the syntactical structure of sentence pattern applied in tree diagram and transformation grammar. The tree diagram used to describe words, phrases, or clauses arranged in a sentence. While the transformation grammar function to find out the changes in the shape of a sentence. In analyzing the data in tree diagram the researcher  uses Dianne Borstein theory and for analyzing the data in transformation grammar uses Akmajian and Frank theory. The researcher uses descriptive qualitative methods to describe and explain the finding data. The data found were thirteen data taken through the selection of sentences based on their types, namely declarative sentence, question sentences, and exclamation sentences. The data is then analyzed. From the analysis carried out, the reseracher found declarative sentences and exclamation sentences on the basic structure of sentences while the command sentences and question sentences are in the transformation grammar structure.      Key Words : Syntactical Analysis, sentence pattern, Instagram advertisement.

Abstract

Abstract

The errors of L2 learners are much influenced by their L1. they (errors) were the result of interference in the learning of a second language from the habits of the first language.Corrective Feedback (CF) does not always provide the correct form but it also forces learners to utilize their own resources in constructing a reformulation.Direct feedbacks do not figure out the actual performance of students’ comprehension in correcting the errors because teachers have provided the correct one. Teachers have to invite students to be active finding the correct one from their errors they produce
