Abstract

Abstract: Rabies is a zoonotic disease caused by the rabies virus with a mortality rate of nearly 100% if not treated properly. The lack of public understanding about the dangers of rabies and the lack of awareness about the importance of hand hygiene as a preventive measure against infectious diseases such as rabies are health issues that need to be addressed through this education program. This activity was carried out as part of community service on August 21-22, 2025, at SMPN 3 Kutalimbaru Satu Atap, Namo Rube Julu Village, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra Province, involving male and female students. The implementation method consisted of interactive counseling on rabies using educational posters, followed by an open discussion session and an evaluative quiz, and concluded with a workshop on making eco-enzyme soap using environmentally friendly materials. The results of the activity showed an increase in students' understanding of the transmission mechanism of rabies, the characteristics of symptoms in animals and humans, initial steps to take when exposed to the virus, and practical skills in producing eco-enzyme soap as a sustainable cleaning product alternative and as a preventive measure against rabies. Participants showed high enthusiasm and responded positively to the material presented, as well as successfully raising awareness about the importance of maintaining hand hygiene. Thus, the rabies education program combined with eco-enzyme soap making training proved effective in improving students' knowledge and practical skills, so that it is hoped that this will become a healthy habit that is consistently applied in daily activities.

Abstract

Abstract: Obesity is one of the main risk factors for hypertension. Women of childbearing age are prone to obesity due to an unbalanced diet, low physical activity, and hormonal influences. This study aims to determine the relationship between obesity and blood pressure in women of childbearing age (20–29 years). This study is an analytical descriptive study with a cross-sectional design involving 72 obese women of childbearing age in Medan Deli District, Medan City, North Sumatra Province. Samples were taken purposively, with direct measurements of body weight, height, and blood pressure. BMI is categorised as obesity level I (58.3%) and II (41.7%). The majority of blood pressure was hypertension of the first degree (54.2%), normal (25.0%), and pre-hypertension (20.8%). The Fisher test showed no significant association between obesity and blood pressure (p = 0.634). There was no significant association between obesity and blood pressure in women of childbearing age aged 20–29 years. Young age and the possible protective effects of the hormone estrogen, which increases vasodilation through nitric oxide and lowers oxidative stress, are thought to play a role in preventing an increase in blood pressure despite obesity.

Abstract

Abstract: Diarrhoea is one of the health problems that often occurs in school-age children and can cause dehydration if not treated properly. The implementation of Clean and Healthy Living Behaviour (PHBS) and providing education on the manufacture of simple oralit solution is an effective preventive effort to increase the awareness and skills of students. This activity was carried out in the context of community service activities on August 20, 2025, at SMPN 3 Kutalimbaru Satu Atap, Namo Rube Julu Village, Kutalimbaru District, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra Province, involving 30 students. The method used is in the form of interactive counselling about PHBS through banner media, discussions, and quizzes, which is then followed by making an oralit solution using simple ingredients such as sugar, salt, and water. The results of the activity showed an increase in students' understanding of the importance of maintaining personal hygiene, food, and the environment, as well as skills in making oral rehydration solution as a first aid for dehydration. This activity received a positive response from the participants, even though there were still obstacles in the form of limited time and sanitation facilities. Overall, PHBS education accompanied by the practice of making oral hygiene is proven to increase the knowledge and awareness of students, so it is expected to be able to become a habit that is applied consistently both at school and at home.
