Abstract

Protecting the nesting habitat of the Moluccan Scrubfowl (Eulipoa wallacei) is important to conserve the population of this endemic species in North Maluku. The success rate of semi-natural hatching nests of Moluccan Scrubfowl varies in each hatchery conservation location. This study aims to determine the nest success of semi-natural hatching program of Moluccan Scrubfowl in Mamuya Village, North Halmahera Regency. A field experiment approach was used to estimate nest success in semi-natural (in-situ) incubation treatments. Eggs used for the semi-natural hatching treatment were collected from landowner egg collecting activities at four Moluccan Scrubfowl nesting sites. In semi-natural hatching, each bird egg was placed in 60 cm of sand with a minimum distance of 10 cm between eggs (egg density adjusted to the number of eggs planted). A total of 116 Moluccan Scrubfowl eggs were planted over four planting periods and during the natural incubation period the eggs hatched producing 96 chicks. The nest success of the semi-natural hatching program for Moluccan Scrubfowl in Mamuya Village has a high success value of 0,835 (83,52%). This optimal success indicates that incubation in the chick embryo formation process is stable on the sand substrate. The mean incubation time interval for hatching eggs lasted 74 days (interval 72 - 76 days)

Abstract

In the case of optical sensors such as the Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) sensor, the Fe3O4 nanoparticles play a role to boost the signal however they can increase the detection sensitivity of the biosensor. For this application, the optical properties of Fe3O4 nanoparticles need to be studied. The optical properties are described in terms of their optical constants. Therefore, this work was purposed to study the effect of the particle size and lattice strain on the optical constants of Fe3O4 nanoparticles. Samples were synthesized by using the coprecipitation technique. Two calcination temperatures, i.e., 150oC and 250oC for 4 hours were applied to the samples. Samples were characterized for their diffraction pattern and optical properties by using XRD and Specular UV-Vis Spectroscopy technique, consecutively. The particle size and lattice strain were estimated by using the Williamson-Hall (W-H) method. The effect of the particle size and their optical constants on the reflectance curve in the SPR sensor application was also performed toward a simulation by using Winspall 3.02 software. The results show that calcination temperature causes an increase in particle size and a decrease in lattice strain. The optical constants, such as absorbance (A), absorption coefficient (α), extinction coefficient (k), refractive index (n), dielectric constants (ε), optical conductivity (σ), and the Urbach energy (Eu) significantly depended on particles size and lattice strain. However, the particle size and optical constant were significantly influent the SPR angle in the reflectance curve of Fe3O4

Abstract

Research has been carried out with the title identification of mercury pollution in soil at activity locations and post-unlicensed gold mining (PETI) activities in Roko Village, North Halmahera Regency, with the aim of determining the level of pollution and distribution of mercury at PETI and post-PETI activity locations. Sampling used the proportional sampling method in which 5 soil samples were taken at each location. Soil pH measurements were carried out in situ using a Soil Survey Instrument. To analyze mercury concentration in soil, soil samples were taken, preserved, prepared and tested for mercury concentration using a mercury analyzer. The analysis results show that the pH category at the PETI activity location is in the acid category with a pH range of 4.5-5. Meanwhile, the soil pH at the post-PETI location is in the acid to slightly acid category, namely pH 5-6. The results of the analysis of mercury concentrations in the soil at the PETI location ranged from 3.21 mg/kg - 74.99 mg/kg and post-PETI activity locations ranged from 1.76 mg/kg - 167.1 mg/kg at a radius of 0-50 m and has exceeded the normal criteria for mercury in soil and reached the very critical criteria category.

Abstract

Sexual violence can happen anywhere, anytime, and by anyone. In 2021, the Foster children of Children's Development Center (PPA) ID-0319 were confirmed to have been victims of sexual violence. PPA, as a service institution, has provided psychological and legal treatment and assistance to victims and their families by involving professionals. However, PPA needs education related to the prevention of sexual violence. Therefore, the purpose of this activity is to provide children with an understanding of assertive behavior. The method used was a fun learning approach in the form of presentations, questions and answers, and playing together. This activity consists of 40 participants. After presenting the material, participants played a game of Snakes and Ladders. The results of this activity are the improvement of participants' knowledge, as evidenced by their ability to answer questions on the "asek" learning card correctly. Thus, it can be concluded that the assertive behavior of PPA ID-0319 members can be increased through education.
