Abstract

H adi th is believed to be a guideline for life after the Qur?an, hence the various methods of understanding used must be appropriate so that the traditions can provide benefits for life. So far many criticisms have been directed at the classical hadith methodology of hadith because they are considered irrelevant to current needs. This criticism is not entirely true because after all the classical sharih method is still needed. At least as a reference for the new sharih hadith method so that he does not lose his footing. The effort that needs to be done is how to combine the old method with the new method so that the sharih of the hadith can produce a valid understanding. This article presents the development of Sharh Hadith since the 6th century until now using the historical-phenomenological approach. Furthermore, the Sharh Hadith methodology is also offered which applies the old methodology in the new direction accompanied by an explanation of the steps. Furthermore, also included a concrete example of the realization of the values of hadith in contemporary life. Thus the reader can find the meaning of syarh hadith in his real life.Keywords: Sharh, hadith, method, model

Abstract

Integrating hadith from the past with the contemporary social problem is not always easy. It is because hadith is a fixed text so that it cannot always be suitable with every problem developed outside its time. In a case of religious decision (fatwa) in which hadith is used, MUI has own way to connect between hadith and recent problems so that hadith can give answer on that problems. The haram decision on un-use choosing right in election is the example. In arranging that decision, hadith is placed together with other basis: al- Qur’an, fiqh, and ushul fiqh, then they are mixed together using qiyas as methodology basis of its interpretation. The result is subjective. However, there is no other way, and what has been done by MUI to use hadith in religious decision (fatwa) has been correct. Abstract

The terms in hadith study is often ambiguous and difficult to differentiate. As the terms of hadith, sunah, khabar, and atsar are often used at the same time. For hadith observers, it becomes serious problem and complicated since those terms have significant difference. Hence, the same usage of those terms cannot be accepted. One of the debatable issues in discussing hadith study is about disagreement in defining the term of hadith understanding. The hadith scholars mention it in three terms: fiqh al-ḥadith, fahm al-ḥadith dan naqd al-ḥadith. Each term has different perception related to its scope and limitation. One should be underlined that although those terms are different, the purposes are same namely hadith understanding activities. This article discusses the definition of fiqh al-ḥadith, fahm al-ḥadith dan naqd al-ḥadith and their sects and affiliation of hadith understanding.
