Abstract

Background: Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) is still one of the health problems in developed and developing countries including Indonesia. ARI is the most common disease in outpatients in North Sumatra, especially in Medan. This study aims to find out about the factors that influence ARI in toddlers in Simalingkar Health Center Medan, including nutritional status, birth weight, history of immunization, exclusive breastfeeding, and parental smoking status.Subjects and Method: This was a cross sectional study. The sample used was all toddlers who came to the Simalingkar health center, amounting to 100 people. Data collection was carried out using interviews and analysis was carried out using bivariate and multivariate with multiple logistic regression. Results: The results showed that there was a significant influence between nutritional status, exclusive breastfeeding and parental smoking status with the incidence of ARI in infants. Conclusion: The results showed that there was a significant influence between nutritional status, exclusive breastfeeding and parental smoking status with the incidence of ARI in infants. Keywords: acute respiratory infection, children under fiveCorrespondence: Lasma Maria. Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is a disease condition caused by a dengue virus infection. DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3, and DENV-4 are serotypes of the virus and are usually transmitted through the bite of mosquitoes from the stegomyia family, such as Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus. DHF often results in extraordinary events (KLB) and can lead to death. The disease can be categorized into four different clinical stages: stages I, II, III, and IV. Laboratory examination in DHF usually shows a decrease in platelet count below 100,000/µl and the presence of leaky plasma, which can be seen from the hematocrit that has increased by more than 20%. Objective to determine whether there is a relationship between hematocrit value and platelet count at degrees III and IV in DHF incidence. This type of research uses an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional approach. In the analysis, there is a significant relationship between hematocrit value and clinical degrees III and IV with a value of p = 0.043, and there is a relationship between platelet counts and clinical degrees III and IV with a value of p = 0.000.  There is a relationship between hematocrit value and platelet count in clinical degrees III and IV of DHF.

Abstract

Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) are infections that are transmitted through sexual contact as well as outside of sexual contact. Transmitted through sexual contact can be vaginal, anal or oral; and sexual contact can come through contaminated objects, such as needles. Because Indonesia is the fifth country with the risk of sexually transmitted infections. So, this community service is carried out to reduce the incidence of sexually transmitted infections as well as prevent casual sex and increase students' insight. Most of these incidents are experienced by teenagers to young adults, namely around the age of 15-24 years. Students carrying out community service at the Indonesian Methodist Faculty of Agriculture were very enthusiastic when listening and had high curiosity about the information provided regarding Sexually Transmitted Infections.

Abstract

Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a specific non-inflammatory disease, which occurs in the airways, parenchyma of lung, and pulmonary vessels. The processes leading to the development of COPD are heterogeneous. CRP is the result of the synthesis of acute phase proteins mainly by hepatocytes as response to tissue damage or inflammation. It is accepted where CRP-levels are associated with the existemce of airflow interference and are also associated with disease severity, exercise capacity, quality of life,  response to treatment and mortality. Methods: This study is a study using the literature study method or literature review. Data obtained from secondary data using documentation techniques. Data documentation is carried out based on journals related to research variables. Results: Based on a literature review study, there are 9 journals related to the relationship between smoking intensity and C-Reactive Protein levels to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Conclusion: After conducting a literature review process, it was found that there was a relationship between smoking intensity and C-reactive protein levels on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
