Abstract

This research aims to find out the effect of using the MangaPlus application on students' reading comprehension in the narrative text at tenth-grade students of SMAN 8 Muaro Jambi. This research used a quantitative research design with a quasi-experimental approach, including quantitatively accepted pre- test and post-tests. This research uses tenth-grade students of SMAN 8 Muaro Jambi from XE1 Fase and XE3 Fase as a sample class. Before offering treatment, the exam should assess the student's reading comprehension with 25 multiple-choice reading tests. In the pre-test experimental group, the researcher received 32 sample scores with mean values of 54, 70, 88, and. 32. After treatment, the researcher acquired 32 sample scores with means of 55, 58, 80, and 32. Based on the result of the research it can be concluded that the Mangaplus application can help students to enhance their reading skills.Keywords: Reading Comprehension, Narrative Text, Mangaplus Application

Abstract

Many students are more captivated by reading through the internet and application media than reading a book, one example of reading application the Wattpad application, this application is an electronic book in the form of an application, on Wattpad there are many things that can be read in the Wattpad application. This study employed a true experiment design, using quantitatively approved pre-test and post-test. Genuine experiment with pre- and post-tests This study's type of research design is group design. Or in Indonesian known as true experiment, is the most rigorous and powerful experimental design because in true experiment research the research subject is randomly selected. Before providing treatment, the exam should determine the kids'' reading comprehension. In the pre-test experimental group, the researcher obtained 36 sample scores with means of 55, 35, 63, and 40. In the post-test score following treatment, the researcher obtained 36 sample scores with means of 75, 35, 90, and 35. Based on the theory of reading using the Wattpad application it can help students to improve their reading skill and students can read understand a content of the story text.

Abstract

The ability of students to understand the learning material is important, especially in understanding the simple present tense in descriptive text. This research is aimed to find out how far the students' ability to understand the simple present tense in descriptive text. This research uses quantitative as a research design and descriptive quantitative as a research approach. This research took a population of seventh graders at SMP Laboratorium Jambi City in the 2023/2024 academic year and the sample was all students in class VII in the 2023/2024 academic year. This research uses a multiple-choice test given to the respondents as a research instrument, and then the results of the test are assessed and analyzed. The technique of collecting data was using the test. The technique of data analysis was using the mean formula. This research found that the average value of the test obtained is 49.66. As a result, 2 students received the predicate "good", 8 students received the predicate "moderate", and 5 students received the predicate "poor". In conclusion, the student's ability to understand simple present tense in descriptive text is moderate level.Keywords: Students’ ability, simple present tense, descriptive text

Abstract

This research aims to find out whether there is any influence of silent reading strategy on students’ reading comprehension SMAN 15 Muaro Jambi. This research used a quantitative design with a quasi-experimental approach, including a quantitatively accepted pre-test and post-test. This research used total sampling namely population and sample of 34 people 17 students of Class XI A were selected as the control class and 17 students of Class XI B were selected as the experimental class. The technique of collecting data is by multiple choice questions in this research, the data analysis technique used the t-test (independent sample T-test) on the SPSS for Windows version 25 program. The results of this research indicate that Students’ reading comprehension in text taught using the silent reading strategy post-test the average count (mean) is 71.18 that value higher than the class using reading aloud to comprehend a narrative text in English subject namely the post-test average count (mean) is 62.06. and from data Analysis by Independent sample T Test t-count is 3.221 with the value t-table (2.369) by its result then Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. The result of this study showed that there is an influence on the use of the Silent Reading Strategy towards students’ reading comprehension, and also it can be concluded that this silent reading strategy can applied in class besides that it helps a teacher increase Students’ reading comprehension in a text.

Abstract

Students’ difficulties in speaking skill at tenth grades of SMA N 8 Jambi City that the main problems they face in learning speaking skills are a lack of vocabulary, the need for articulation, the need to speak without hesitation, and anxiety of making mistakes when speaking. This research is on students' difficulties in speaking English at the tenth grade of SMA N 8 Jambi City. The aim of this study is to describe the contributing factors of students' difficulties in speaking English at the tenth grade of SMA N 8 Jambi City. In this study, the researcher used the descriptive qualitative method. The researcher collected the data by questionnaire and interview. The data was analyzed by reducing the data, displaying the data, and drawing or verifying conclusions. The result of this study is that students' difficulties in speaking English are influenced by two factors, namely linguistic factors and psychological factors. Linguistic factors consist of a lack of vocabulary, a lack of pronunciation, and a lack of grammar, while psychological factors are a lack of confidence, shyness, and fear of making mistakes.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effectiveness of using flashcards toward the student’s vocabulary mastery at SMAN 15 Muaro Jambi. This research used a quantitative research design with quasi-experimental approach, including quantitatively accepted pre-test and post-test. This research used total sampling namely population and sample of 34 people 17 students of class XI A were selected as control class and 17 students of class XI B were selected as the experimental class. The technique of collecting data is by multiple choice questions in this research, the data analysis technique was using the t test (independent sample T-test) on the SPSS for windows version 25 program. The results of this research indicate that students’ vocabulary mastery in text taught using the flashcards strategy post-test the average count (mean) is 71 that value higher than class using regular text book strategy in English subject namely post-test the average count (mean) is 63. And from data Analysis by independent sample T test tcount is 3.178 with the value Ttable (2.145) by it result then Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. The result of this study showed an there is a effectiveness on the use of the flashcards strategy toward students’ vocabulary mastery, and it can be concluded that this flashcards strategy can applied in class that it helps a teacher increase students’ vocabulary mastery

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of using Inside Outside Circle Technique Towards Speaking Skill at Eleventh Grade student of Senior High School 8 Muaro Jambi. The research methodology used in this study was quantitative research design with true experimental research. The population of the research was eleventh grade student and the sample was XI IPA 2 as experimental class and XI IPA 3 as control class. The instrument of the research was the oral proficiency test. The data were gathering in this research through pre-test, treatment and post-test. The data were analyzing in this research through t-test formula. As expected, the current study, it was found that the coefficient of t-(observation) = 4,05 where the coefficient of t-(table) = 1,967. It means that there is a significant effect of using Inside Outside Circle technique toward students English speaking skill at eleventh grade student of senior high school 8 Muaro Jambi.

Abstract

This research aimed to analyze the material completeness in the English textbook entitled “English in Context” by the Ministry of Education and Culture. The material completeness that was expected to be found was a short interpersonal text, a short transactional text and a short functional text. The researcher used a qualitative research design and a descriptive qualitative approach to analyze the English textbook. Specifically, the researcher used a checklist in gathering the data. The data were gathered by reading the English textbook thoroughly to identify and classify the material completeness that can be found. The researcher analyzed the data by the results of the study. The result showed that “English in Context” textbook published by the Ministry of Education and Culture provides material completeness, there are: 1) A short interpersonal text, providing introducing self and others namely introducing self, greeting, leave-taking, thanking and apologizing. 2) A short transactional text, namely daily activity, physical appearances, asking and giving information about characteristics of humans, asking and giving information about hobbies and professions, and asking and giving information about song. 3 A short functional text, namely descriptive text. The result of this research showed that this “Bahasa Inggris” textbook fulfills the material completeness aspect.

Abstract

This research purposed to analyzed the material completenss in the English textbook entitled “When English Rings a Bell” by Ministry of Education and Culture. The material completeness that were expected to found were a short interpersonal text, a short transactional text and a short functional text. This researchused qualitative research design and descriptive qualitative approach to analyzed the English textbook. Specifically, this researchused checklist in gathering the data. The data were gathered by reading the English textbok throughly to identify and classify the material completeness that can be found. This researchanalyzed the data by the results of the research. The result showed that “When English Rings a Bell” textbook that published by the ministry of education and culture was provides and presents the material completeness, there were: 1) A short interpersonal text, providing introducing self and others namely introducing self, greeting, leave taking, thangking and aologizing. 2) A short transactional text, such as: telling about daily activity, asking and giving direction, asking and giving information (related to the qualities of people, animals and things, in order to identify, to criticize or to praise them and related to actions/functions of people, animals and things in order to identify, to criticize or to praise them). And 3) A short functional text, this English textbook provides a short functional text, namely a descriptive text. The result of this research showed that “When English Rings a Bell” textbook fulfill and provide the material completeness aspect.
