Abstract

The need to apply science and technology is becoming an increasingly important need. For educators, the need for mastery of technology is something that must be mastered to support the learning process. The aim of this program is to equip elementary school teachers with mastery of using the Internet to facilitate the search for English learning resources and to introduce and deepen their knowledge of English learning aid sites to improve teacher performance. There are five stages in implementing a community service program to find English learning resources in Internet Usage Seminars: Introduction Stage, Social and Audience Stage, Development Stage, Internet usage training and final assessment stage. The conference lasted for two days. The first day of activity is in the form of material procurement. The second day focused on Internet usage practices. Abstract

Sebagian besar guru selalu menggunakan strategi dalam proses pengajaran dan pembelajaran. Strategi sangat diperlukan karena dapat membuat siswa-siswa mudah untuk memahami dalam pengajaran menulis. Strategi pengajaran adalah suatu cara membuat keputusan tentang suatu pelajaran,sebuah kelas individu, kurikulum dalam situasi pengajaran. Ini tidak dapat dipisahkan dengan kegiatan pembelajaran dan juga merupakan sebuah metode pembelajaran yang mana siswa-siswa aktif atau dengan pengalaman melibatkan proses pembelajaran dan dimana terdapat perbedaaan tingkat pembelajaran aktif,tergantung pada keterlibatan siswa-siswa. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan apakah strategi yang digunakan oleh guru untuk mengembangkan kemampuan siswa dan apakah kendala yang dihadapi oleh guru dalam menyajikan strategi untuk membangun kemampuan dalam menulis teks pada SMAN 11 Jambi. Subjek penelitian ini adalah guru bahasa inggris di SMAN 11 Jambi. Dan peneliti menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus. Data penelitian dikumpulkan melalui interview, observation dan dokumentasi. Data dianalisis menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian ini adalah guru-guru menggunaka strategi dalam proses pengajaran dan pembelajaran. Sebagian siswa masih belum mengerti karena mereka kurang memiliki kosa kata dan grammar. Semua guru bersikap sopan, berpenampilan baik ketika mereka mengajar menulis dan bersahabat, kemudian beberapa dari mereka tidak dapat menguasai kelas dengan baik tetapi diantara nya sudah bisa menguasai kelas.

Abstract

Reading comprehension is the message that is imposed in the written form. It is most important element that students must recognize, because the primary purpose of reading comprehension is to know the way in getting what the students want to know from reading material. In fact, most of the students got difficulties to understand reading text because they think that answering reading is not interesting task and not explicitly stated on the text. The aim of this research is to find out whether any significant effect of using PORPE toward reading comprehension. The research used experimental method. The population was students at Eleventh grade in SMAN 3 Kota Jambi. The sample was divided into two randomized group: XI IPA 1 as experiment class and XI IPA 2 as control class. The instrument of the research had been done in reading comprehension test. The data of the research showed that after counting the students’ scores and analyzing by using t-test formula, the result of experimental class was significantly higher than the students’ score in control class. It was showed at the level of significance 0.05 with the degree of freedom (df) 60, t-observed value 2.512 > t-table value 2.000. The null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted. The conclusion was using PORPE strategy affected the students’ reading comprehension.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan pengaruh Outlining Technique terhadap kemampuan menulis siswa pada teks prosedur. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimen. Populasinya adalah kelas delapan SMPN 4 Sungai Penuh yang berjumlah 85 siswa. Dan sampel diambil dengan teknik “random sampling” yang terdiri dari 28 siswa kelas VIII A sebagai kelas eksperimen dan 29 siswa kelas VIII B sebagai kelas kontrol. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data adalah tes menulis. Dengan demikian, hasil peneltian ditemukan dengan persentase nilai siswa setelah test. Kelas experimen memperoleh 65,57% dan kelas kontrol 62,21%. Sedangkan hasil tersebut dibuktikan dengan menguji hipotesis t-tes, yang mana t-tabel pada taraf signifikannya 0,05. Hingga hasilnya adalah thitung (0,79)< ttabel (1,67). Dari hasil tes ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa tidak ada pengaruh penggunaan teknik uraian terhadap kemampuan menulis siswa pada teks prosedur. Keyword : Outlining Technique, Procedure Text, Students’ Writing

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine students’ motivation in learning English. This research is one of the influential factors in increasing student learning motivation. Learning success depends on the motivation of high or low students’ in learning. Motivation can encourage students to achieve learning goals in school. The research design in this study is descriptive quantitative survey research. The population of this study was all 11th grade students at SMAN 8 Kota Jambi. The sample used is random sampling. The researcher took students in each 11 IPA class with a total of 15% from each class in taking a sample of 6 people, and from all 11th grades IPA were 48 people as samples. The research instrument was a questionnaire, analysis of data using Likert analysis, percentage formula and to strengthen research, researcher also added interviews. The results of this study are indicated by students' answers in the questionnaire. There are 30 questions in the questionnaire. 15 questions for intrinsic motivation and 15 questions for extrinsic motivation. The calculation shows that students' intrinsic motivation score is 62% and extrinsic students are 38%. This means that students at SMAN 8 Kota Jambi have intrinsic motivation that is higher than extrinsic motivation in learning English.Keywords: English Learning, Motivation.

Abstract

This research aimed to examine the impact of using the silent reading method on reading comprehension at SMAN 3 Sungai Penuh. This research used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest design type. The population of this research was all students of class XI Science at SMAN 3 Sungai Penuh which total of students were 155. The sample of this research was one of the XI Science classes, specifically class XI Science 3, using the cluster random sampling technique for sample selection. The data collection technique used was test. And the data analysis was conducted descriptively. The results of this research showed that before using the silent reading method, the average score was 48.31, with a maximum score of 68 and a minimum of 40. After using the silent reading method, the average score increased to 67.06, with a maximum score of 81 and a minimum of 61. The normality test showed that the pretest and posttest data had significant values more than α (0.375 > 0.05 and 0.715 > 0.05), indicating a normal data distribution. The impact of this research was important for teachers to choose appropriate teaching methods that align with the materials and learning objectives, and it can recommend the use of silent reading as an effective method to enhance the reading comprehension skills of eleventh-grade science students at SMAN 3 Sungai Penuh.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the effect of using the MangaPlus application on students' reading comprehension in the narrative text at tenth-grade students of SMAN 8 Muaro Jambi. This research used a quantitative research design with a quasi-experimental approach, including quantitatively accepted pre- test and post-tests. This research uses tenth-grade students of SMAN 8 Muaro Jambi from XE1 Fase and XE3 Fase as a sample class. Before offering treatment, the exam should assess the student's reading comprehension with 25 multiple-choice reading tests. In the pre-test experimental group, the researcher received 32 sample scores with mean values of 54, 70, 88, and. 32. After treatment, the researcher acquired 32 sample scores with means of 55, 58, 80, and 32. Based on the result of the research it can be concluded that the Mangaplus application can help students to enhance their reading skills.Keywords: Reading Comprehension, Narrative Text, Mangaplus Application

Abstract

This research aims to find out the levels of difficulty faced by tenth-grade students at Senior High School 8 Muaro Jambi in using simple past tense within narrative texts. The research used a quantitative descriptive research design with purposive sampling. 28 students from class XE 4 were taken as participants. The researcher used a test as an instrument. The findings reveal that the students fall into 4 categories: Very Poor, Poor, Moderate, and Good levels. 13 students in the "Very Poor" level, and 10 students in the “Poor” level. It indicates difficulties in using simple past tense. Students performed better in answering Regular verb questions than Irregular ones. The mean score that obtained is 26.43. The standard deviation is 18.72, indicating a relatively high degree of variability. The highest score obtained is 62.5, the lowest is 0. The spread of scores suggests a wide range of individual differences, suggesting heterogeneity in performance within the sample.Keywords: Level of difficulty, narrative text, simple past tense

Abstract

This research investigates the errors made by third-semester students in the English Language Education Program at the University of Batanghari when using Simple Past Tense. The research aims to identify the types of errors based on Dulay et al.'s Surface Strategy taxonomy and explore the causes of errors. The research used a Descriptive Qualitative design. Research instruments included a writing test and documentation of test results. The findings revealed that students made various errors in using Simple Past Tense, with the error of omission constituting 57 error items (26.6%), error of addition constituting 37 items (16.6%), the error of misformation constituting 123 items (55.2%), and error of misordering constituting 6 items (1,6%) of total errors. The total of errors is 223 error items. The most recurring error is misformation, while misordering is the least common. The causes of errors are identified as overgeneralization, insufficient grammatical knowledge, and insufficient vocabulary knowledge.Keywords: Error analysis, simple past tense, surface strategy taxonomy

Abstract

This research aims to know how the students’ perception when they using of YouTube for their speaking skill. The research using a Qualitative Design with the Phenomenology Approach, utilizing qualitative data in the form of a descriptive qualitative. With tenth students present during data collection. Purposive sampling is employed to select subjects, and the research instruments include a observation, interview, and documentation. The technique of data collection used steps are data reduction, coding, data display, and conclusion. The findings reveal that students use YouTube as an additional English learning media, students can communicate with teacher if the teacher encourage them to speak English, the students can pronounce good when they speak, the vocabulary they used is a new, the students still not fluent when they speak English because they still think of the grammar. The results of the research is students perception on the use of YouTube for learn English is positive, in YouTube they can learn anything especially for speaking skills. In YouTube can make students good pronounce, increase students vocabulary, but YouTube less helpful for grammar and fluent.Keywords : Students’ Perception, YouTube, Speaking Skill
