Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk membantu para pembelajar untuk menguasai bahasa Iggris yang menggunakan kata-kata baru dalam sebuah konteks. Karena,kosa kata memainkan peranan penting untuk membantu para pembelajar dalam meningkatkan pengetahuan mereka di dalam sebuah percakapan.Para pembelajar bisa berbicara dan melatih pembicaraan menggunakan kosa kata baru.Melalui percakapan di antara para pembelajar di dalam kelas dapat membuat mmembuat mereka menyadari bahwa kosa kata adalah poin utama untuk membuat percakapan lebih efektif dan bermakna. Dengan kata lain , para pembelajar memiliki motivasi yang sangat baik untuk mengembangkan kemampuan mereka melalui percakapan, dan meningkatkan kapasitas dalam menguasai kosa kata.Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kajian teori yang terkait dengan topic yang di bicarakan. Penelitian ini mengambil data berdasarkan kajian pustaka.Keyword : vocabulary, dialogue

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menyelidiki kemampuan siswa di Universitas Batanghari Jambi dalam menggunakan Simple Present Tense. Metode yang di gunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kuantitative research dengan menggunakan pendekatan survey. Smaple penelitian terdiri dari 88 orang siswa dengan menggunakan purposive sampling. Data di ambil dengan menggunakan test pilihan ganda. Peneliti menggunakan total rata rata untuk mengetahui persentasi mahasiswa dalam menggunakan simple present tense. Berdasarkan hasil analisis, peneliti menemukan bahwa sebagian besar mahasiswa dalam menggunakan simple present tense (do dan does) rata rata adalah (41%) and di bawah rata rata adalah (20%). Terutama , kemampuan mahasiswa dalam menggunakan simple present tense di atas rata rata (35.2%) dan kategori rata rata yaitu (35.2%). Di samping itu, kemampuan siswa dalam menggunakan am, is are adalah di atas rata rata (31.8%) dan kategori di bawah rata rata adalah (28.4%). Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini maka dapat di simpulkan bahwa kemampuan mahasiswa Unbari Semester pertama adalah sedang dalam menguasai present tense. Bedasarkan hal ini maka disarankan kepada para pengajar khususnya Bahasa Inggris (grammar) untuk memberikan tidak hanya penjelasan serta materi tetapi juga mengajak mahasiswa berpartisipasi aktif baik lewat diskusi maupun perorangan.

Abstract

ABSTRACT                         The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of discussion method and cognitive style on students’ reading comprehension achievement. This research was an experimental study with factorial design.The total number of sample of this study is 50 students who were selected by using purposive sampling technique. The data of this study consisted of the scores on reading comprehension either through pretest or posttest for experimental and control classes, and the score of cognitive style of the pre test and post test by using SPSS 19. To find the effect of independent variable and dependent variable, and the interaction effect between independent variable on dependent variable. Based on data analysis by using to way anova, the value of f calculated is =14.40 > than the value of f table =1.64. So, the hyphothesis one which says”there is significant effect of discussion method on students’ reading comprehension achievement is accepted. Two-Way anova analysis also found that the value of f calculated on facto b (independent and dependent cognitive style) is = 0.158 < than the value of f table = 1.64. So, the hyphothesis which says “ there is any significant effect of cognitive style on students’ reading comprehension achievement “ is rejected ( Ha is rejected and Ho is accepted). then two way anova analysis found that the value of f calculated is =3.803 > than the value of f table =1.64. So, the hyphothesis three wich says” there is any significsnt effect on students’ reading comprehension achievement” is accepted (Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected). Abstract

The purpose of this study was to explore the demotivating factors of the learners in EFL learning at one madrasah tsanawiah in Jambi City. Particularly, this study was to find out the particular factors that demotivate madrasah tsanawiah students’ during the learning process. Many studies have mainly focused on teachers’ motivation or students’ motivation and teachers’ motivation rather than student demotivation in English as a foreign language (EFL) learning context, whereas lack of data has been found on the factors that cause student demotivation in Indonesian EFL learning contexts at secondary school level. The participants were a purposive sample of English students who currently studied at a madrasah . The study was designed as a qualitative case study and involved a demographic questioner and face-to-face interviews for data collection. The result revealed that peer influences were as the main demotivation for the students. Other demotivators for EFL students in this research included school condition such as lack of resources and facilities. Suggestions for further research also are discussed.

Based on data analysis with two way Annova, the value of F- calculated is =14.40 > than the value of F table =1.64. So, the hypothesis one “There is significant effect of discussion method on students’ reading comprehension achievements” is accepted. Two-way Annova analysis also found that the value of F- calculated on facto b (independent and dependent cognitive style) is = 0.158 < than the value of F- table = 1.64. So, the hypothesis which says “There is any significant effect of cognitive style on students’ reading comprehension achievements” is rejected (Ha is rejected and Ho is accepted). Then two-way Annova analysis found that the value of F- calculated is =3.803 > than the value of F- table =1.64. So, the hypothesis three which says” There is any significant effect on students’ reading comprehension achievements” is accepted (Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected). Based on findings, it can be concluded that this research has mixed results.

Abstract

This research aimed to determine students’ motivation in English Language Learning. Learning success depends on the motivation of high or low on students in learning. The research design in this study is mixed method. The population of this study were all 10th grade students at SMK N 5 Jambi city. The sample used is random sampling. The researcher took students in each 10th Marketing Program. The research instrument was a questionnaire and interview. Data analysis was using likert analysis, percentage formula and to strengthen research. The results of this study are indicated by students' answers in the questionnaire and interview. There are 30 questions in the questionnaire. 15 questions for intrinsic motivation and 15 questions for extrinsic motivation. The result shows that students' intrinsic motivation score is 62% and extrinsic students are 38%. This means that students at Vocational High School 5 Jambi city have intrinsic motivation that is higher than extrinsic motivation in learning English.

Abstract

This research is aimed at analyzing the attitude of students of non-English major study towards English lessons at the faculty of Economics and Law of Batanghari University in Jambi. The research problem is the attitude of students of non-English major study towards English lessons. The research is used quantitative method by using questionnaire and discussion method. Based on the calculation of the item values using SPSS, it was concluded that 40 questions were valid, 5 were invalid, the total score correlation value (r count) was consulted with rtable (0.349) at α = 0.05, 40 questions were declared valid and as many as 5 questions were declared invalid namely question no. 7,18,19 25 28 and the non-valite questionnaire was discarded. So the number of items used as research is as many as 40 questions. Based on table 4.3 above, can be seen an overview of each variable. Variable Attitute Height with an average value of 3.74. This means that Behavioral is in the High category which is in the High category with an average value of 3.88. Cognitive variable 3.97 and emotional included in the high category that is equal to 3.85. Variable of ATTITUDES of 10 statement items there is one item in the very high category (8) the rest, all items are in the high category with an average value in the range, 3.40 - 4.19 overall, Variable of ATTITUDES is in the category high with an average value of 3.86. Variable of BEHAVIORAL Of the 10 statement items there is one item in the very high category (8) the rest, all items are in the high category with the average value in the range, 3.40 - 4, 19 overall, the Variable of Behavioral is in the high category with an average value of 3.88.COGNITIVE out of the 10 statement items there is one item in the very high category (8) and the rest, all items are in the high category with an average value on range, 3.40 - 4.19 overall, QUESTIONAIRES OF COGNITIVES are in the high category with an average value of 3.97. EMOTIONAL OF 10 statement items there is one items are in the very high category (8) the rest, all items are in the high category with an average value in the range, 3.40 - 4.19 overall, QUESTIONAIRES OF EMOTIONAL are in the high category with an average value of 3.85.

Abstract

The purpose of this research to find out liguistics phenomena and the reasons for the linguistic phenomena that happen in Jambinese forms in Jambinese community in Seberang Kota .The qualitative design is used in this research. The interview is used as the instrument to get the data concerning to the linguistics phenomena.There are four linguistics phenomena that happen to Jambinese forms in Seberang Kota classified as language maintance, language loss, language shift, and language change.based on the result od the research the Jambinesse address forms still exist until now.Eventhough the address forme of languge such as languag shift, language loss or language change is happend , the core of the Jambinesse address forms is still exist until now. Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this research is to help the learners to awareness and get the victorious in  English-Awarnessin context. Because,  conscious learner palys an important rule to help the learners to improve their knowledge in mastery English as the second language. Through the comprehension of material  the learners are active to use English  in context.  Teachers give the big influence in teacing and learning process. Through the right concept of teaching it can improve the students awarness in English as the second language based on the material.On the other hands, the learners have good motivation to develop their knowledge, skill, and increase their capacity to mastery English in context. The method used in this research was theories which relate to the topic discussed. Abstract

The objectives of the research are to how the effectiveness of using newspaper article to teach reading comprehension. Moreover, this research designed to study how the newspaper article can be implemented in the tenth grade students of SMA N 6 Muaro Jambi. The method used in this research is quantitative research design. The subject of the research is the ten grade students of SMA N 6 Muaro Jambi. There are 30 students of the ten class X MIA 1 and 30 students of the ten class X MIA 2. The result showed there is a significant effect on the students’ reading comprehension between those who were taught by using newspaper article and those who were taught without newspaper article. In this research, the null hypothesis is rejected because the value of t-test is higher than the value of t-table (1.93 > 1.47). Then, the alternative hypothesis is accepted, the value of t-test is higher than the value of t-table (1.93 > 1.47). Thus, it proved that there is the effect of using think pair share technique to develop students’ reading skills on tenth grade students’ of SMA N 6 Muaro Jambi Jambi. In conclusion, it was found that there is improvement score on the students who were taught by newspaper article. This can be seen from pre-test result, treatment and post test result after treatment. Teaching English learning by using newspaper article in experimental class was effective.
