Abstract

The need for clean water is currently very urgent to meet industrial and household needs. Clean water has an important role for health for the wider community, including pregnant mothers. The understanding related to clean water among residents in Sindangmulya village before and after receiving education and training, their understanding of clean water is increasing based on the data list of questions asked by participants with interactive dialogue from questions and answers discussed in two directions proved that there was a significant increase in understanding of clean water both for daily living needs and for drinking water consumption so that they could maintain a healthy lifestyle for their families. Education and understanding regarding clean water is a very relevant program to support the healthy lifestyle of Sindangmulya village residents. Increased understanding of clean water for Sindangmulya village residents is reflected in simple techniques based on clean water quality standards according to regulations that apply in everyday life where residents are very critical of checking clean water before use. This increase in understanding of clean water also indirectly helps reduce unnecessary expenses such as purchasing refillable drinking water and family medication.

Abstract

AbstractProducts made of wood such as Educational Toys, Building Puzzles, Game Block Sets in general are currently experiencing a sluggishness, especially those equipped with carvings which can be said to be stuck. Experiencing even more apprehensive conditions during the Covid-19 pandemic, apart from the reasons for government regulation of the Imposition of Restrictions on Community Activities (PPKM), it was also caused by the level of creativity of the loggers themselves who were not used to conducting Trend Forecasting, namely not carrying out the research process and formulating predictions about behavior of future users. A social institution, namely the Center for Social Rehabilitation of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (BBRSPDI) located in Temanggung, is an education provider for persons with intellectual disabilities which is then referred to as beneficiary benefits, deems it necessary and important to have educational media and woodcarving prototypes as models for demonstration purposes or as part of the intellectual educational development process. However, since the founding of this social institution, they have never had a model of teaching media for woodcarving for reasons of not having expert instructors in carving or for reasons of inability or Low Accessibility Response for beneficiaries (students with intellectual disabilities). Woodcarving has complex processes and ornaments, so it is considered an activity that is difficult for students with disabilities to respond to. Actually, this is not the case, wood carving has a content of tiered techniques and working methods, namely Basic, Intermediate to Advanced, so it is easy to learn for someone who has never carved at all. The basic problem for disabled people is that their Intelligence Quotient (IQ) is low, so there is a delay in their reasoning power in translating images and techniques, but they still have adaptive intelligence in managing Emotional Quotient (EQ). Then it is still possible to understand even the practice of carving. Therefore the aim of this research is to design models of woodcarving teaching media that are easy for people with disabilities to respond to. The method for achieving this goal is Practice Ied Research, which is a method of combining creative practice with creative techniques and technology which outside of it is a research-based creative product, starting from a). Preparation or exploration to dig up data to concept formation (Conceptual Practices), b). Concept development to the process of making creative designs (Dialectical Practices), c) Embodiment or implementation of research results to create new products (Contextual Practices). The output targets to be achieved in this study include, a) models of teaching media made of wood including Educational Toys, Puzzles Building, Game Block Sets using carving techniques then coated with top coad of the solid Duco system or the Melamine system.

Abstract

Water Hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) is a tropical aquatic plant known for its extremely rapid growth, often regarded as a water weed due to its negative impacts on aquatic ecosystems. Nevertheless, this plant possesses significant potential as a raw material for handicrafts with economic value. This community service program (PKM) was conducted in Bugel Village, Panjatan Sub-district, Kulon Progo Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, with a dual purpose: to empower the local community by transforming water hyacinth into economically valuable craft products and, at the same time, to contribute to aquatic weed control. The primary target of the program was a group of housewives who had available time but were not yet engaged in productive activities, along with several active participants, including Hery Prazogie, Eko, Tolob, Susilo Edi, and Fauzi. The methods employed included program socialization, craft production training (covering drying techniques, material sorting, and weaving skills), basic business management training, as well as continuous mentoring and monitoring. The program was implemented over eight months, from January to August 2025. The results showed a significant improvement in participants’ skills. After three training sessions, most participants were already able to independently produce simple craft items. By the end of the program, more than 60 craft products had been successfully created, including bags, baskets, table mats, chairs, pencil holders, and various household accessories. Institutionally, the program led to the establishment of a small business group named Anyaman Bugel Mandiri “Independent Bugel Weaving”, serving as a collective platform for the community to develop creative economy-based enterprises. The program outputs also included scientific publications, promotional media (posters, features in local newspapers), and a documentary video, all of which strengthened the sustainability of the initiative. Overall, this activity demonstrates that water hyacinth once considered an environmental problem can be transformed into a new economic resource that supports the improvement of rural community welfare.
