Abstract

Belawan River in Lalang Village is the river that contained domestic and market activity. The existence of dumping waste into rivers affecting water quality straight with the level of pollution generated. This study aims to determine the water quality of Belawan river in Lalang Village based on physic, chemical, and biology (makroozoobenthos) parameters. Physic and chemical parameters were analyzed by Storet method, while biological parameters (macrozoobenthos) were analyzed by Abudance and Biomass Comparison (ABC) curve. The study was conducted in January to February 2014. The method used Purposive Random Sampling. Stations are used Station 1 (control), station II (domestic activity), and station III (market activity). Physic and chemical parameters is temperature 26.33 − 29.00 °C, turbidity (TSS) 8.79 − 12.99 mg/L, DO 4.37 − 6.57 mg/L, pH 5.17 − 6.43, BOD 0.52 − 0.64 mg/L, nitrate 0.65 − 0.87 mg/L, phosphate 0.11 − 0.13 mg/L, abudance and biomass of makroozoobenthos: 0 − 88% and 0 − 87%. Based on physical and chemical parameters of water, the station I had score 0 which indicates the water quality is satisfying the quality standard (class I), whereas station II and III had score -10 which indicates water quality is mild contaminated (class II). Biological parameter (makroozoobenthos) produce overlapping curves that show the quality water is medium at each station. Keywords : Belawan River, Lalang Village, Macrozoobenthos, Water Quality

Abstract

Babura River is one of the three river in Medan.Where this river is already contaminated which is caused by the plastic product disposal, disposal of household waste that flowed trough the trenches, and also the disposal of the waste water of the tofu industry. The purpose of this research is to know more regarding how far the effect of the disposal of the waste water of the tofu industry to the quality of Babura River. This research was conducted in August until September 2013 with determining 3 stations. Which every stations divided into three point for water sampling which is taken 100 m from every station. The physic and chemical parameter that is taken for observed are temperature, brightness of the water, Colour, Turbidity, TSS,TDS,DO, BOD, COD, Nitrate, Phosphate and pH.Based on the result of the research using the storet methode we got total score of the each stations in the amount of -29 in the station 1, -22 in the station 2 and -30 in the stations 3 based on the result we can conclude that the contaminations level from the three stations is categorized as c class contaminations which is contaminated with score -11 up to -30.Keywords: Babura river, Storet methods, waste water from tofu industry

Abstract

Toba Lake is a lake that is used as aquaculture land. Floating net cage activities in the Toba Lake has been done by the public since 1986, but the rapid development of floating net cage occurred since 1998 through the intensive cultivation net high fish density. This study aims to analyze potential areas for floating net cage ini Toba Lake Girsang Sipangan Bolon, Simalungun by the suitability matrix method. This research use the scorring method/weighting. Determination of weighting and scoring is done to put a value on criteria that support the aquaculture activities by linking the chemical physical parameters. These parameters include temperature, DO, pH, brightness, current, depth, BOD, and ammonia. The results showed that the suitability grade in Toba Lake Girsang Sipangan Bolon is very suitable and suitable class. This shows that Toba Lake Girsang Sipangan Bolon is a potential area for floating net cage.Keyword : Toba Lake, Floating Net Cage, Suitability Index

Abstract

Tuna fish (Auxis thazard) has high economic value in Medan. This research was conducted to investigate the impact of exploitation on Tuna fish stock and was from November 2014 to April 2015. Data obtained in KUD location Gabion Belawan. The objective of this research is to study stock condition of Tuna fish based on length-weight relationship, Von-Bertalanffy growth parameter, condition factor, mortality and level of exploitation. Total length data was measured from 555 fish the average of total length was from 183-402 mm. Separation of cohort length groups using Bhattacharya method produced four length frequency. Growth coefficient (K) was 0.38 per year, L infinity (L∞) 411.60 mm and t0 – 1.42 per year. Based on the long relationship expressed heavy growth patterns swordfish in the waters of the Strait of Malacca is alometrik negative, the value of the average condition factor 0,51 – 2,59, it showed the fish in suitable circumstances. Total mortality rate (Z) is 1,95 per year, natural mortality (M) 0,43 per year, and the rate of cacth mortality (F) 1,46 per year to obtain the exploitation rate of 0,74. The exploitation rate value has exceeded the optimum value of 0,5Keywords : Auxis thazard, Growth, Mortality, Malacca Strait

Abstract

Strait of Malacca is a strait that located between the Peninsular of Malaysia (Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore) and the island of Sumatra (Indonesia). The strait of Malacca linked between the eastern part of the Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean in the west. The aim of this study was to determine the variability of the concentration of chlorophyll-a and sea surface temperature (SST) as well as its relationship with the catch of tuna (Euthynnus sp.). The method used in this study is a sampling of respondents directly in the field with the interview. The factors of abundance fish Sea Surface Temperature (SST) and chlorophyll-a concentrations, to get the value of SST and chlorophyll-a concentrations using a satellite imagery Aqua’s Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS). The data of pelagic tuna (Euthynnus sp.) obtained from the Fishing Port Ocean in Belawan. The monthly average of SST in the Malacca Strait from Aqua MODIS satellite imagery in 2009 – 2014 range between 28,9°C– 32,29°C. The SST of Malacca Strait is following of the wind pattern that occurred in Indonesian water. The highest mackerel tuna catches occurred in the west season and the second transition. The concentration of chlorophyll-a in the research area (2009 – 2014) of Aqua MODIS satellite imagery in (2009 – 2014) ranged between 0,59 – 1,89 mg/m3. The west season is the most dominating of the chlorophyll-a concentration around 1,89 mg/m3. The relationship between SPL and the concentration of the chlorophyll-a by catch tuna showed the negative correlation. In the west and the first transition season, tuna fish has a high correlation to chlorophyll-a and low SST.Keywords : Malacca Strait, Aqua MODIS,Wind, Chlorophyll and Sea Surface Temperature, and Mackarel Tuna.
