Abstract

Abstract: The post-truth era has significantly impacted the understanding and practice of Islam, making it increasingly difficult to distinguish authentic religious knowledge from misinformation. Wasathiyah, as a principle of Islamic moderation, offers a balanced epistemological framework by integrating revelation (naql) and reason (aql), promoting contextual interpretation, and fostering critical engagement. This study examines the role of Wasathiyah epistemology in shaping moderate Islamic knowledge, enhancing digital literacy, and strengthening critical thinking in the post-truth era. Using a qualitative methodology with a content analysis approach, this research explores academic sources, including books, scientific journals, and prior studies. The findings highlight three key contributions: (1) Enhancing digital literacy among Muslims to counter misinformation, (2) Strengthening critical thinking and interfaith dialogue through a balanced understanding of Islam, and (3) Bridging textual and contextual analysis to preserve religious authenticity while adapting to contemporary challenges. However, this study is limited by its reliance on secondary sources. Further empirical research is needed to assess the practical application of Wasathiyah principles. Conceptually, this study contributes to the discourse on moderate Islam and contemporary epistemology.

Abstract

In the modern era, the phenomenon of narcissistic tendencies has increasingly permeated the performance of Hajj and Umrah, obscuring the purpose of spirituality and replacing it with more secular motives. This raises concerns about the quality of moral education provided by the pilgrimage. The article aims to investigate the emerging phenomenon of narcissistic tendencies among Hajj and Umrah pilgrims, examining the underlying factors that drive such behavior and exploring effective strategies to address these challenges while preserving the spiritual essence of the pilgrimage. This study employed a qualitative research approach, utilizing in-depth interviews and direct participant observation to comprehensively explore the manifestations of narcissistic behaviors among Hajj and Umrah participants. Data analysis techniques using the Milles and Huberman models. The findings show that factors such as social pressure, the drive for social recognition, and the influence of social media play a significant role in encouraging narcissistic tendencies behavior among Hajj and Umrah pilgrims. However, it was also found that a holistic moral education approach by KBIHU Al-Multazam Waymili, including fostering spiritual values, providing moral material, personal counseling, strengthening habituation, being wise in using social media, and cultivating simplicity and self-reflection, can mitigate the negative impact of this phenomenon. In conclusion, the phenomenon of narcissistic tendencies in the Hajj and Umrah is a real challenge to maintain the values of spirituality and morality. However, this phenomenon can be overcome with the right moral education approach at the individual and community levels. Hajj and Umrah can remain strong mediums for moral education.

Abstract

The discussion of religious moderation is becoming increasingly important amid various deviations that distort its essence. In today’s context, challenges such as radicalism and extremism threaten the balance of religious life. Therefore, strengthening religious moderation through education is essential to nurture a generation that upholds tolerance and harmony in Indonesia. Instilling moderation values can be achieved through both formal and non-formal education, one of which is the Scout Movement. Scouting activities aim to foster brotherhood, friendship, and unity, making them an effective medium for applying moderation values. In universities, scouts play a vital role in uniting students as future leaders who embody and spread the spirit of moderation. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach using interviews with seven informants to explore how the Scout Movement’s code of honor reflects the practice of religious moderation among students. The results indicate that moderation values have been well implemented by scout members at UIN Raden Fatah Palembang through regular programs, social service, outdoor activities, and leadership training. Adherence to the scout code of honor serves as an ethical guideline that shapes members’ behavior, encouraging them to act responsibly and uphold the principles of religious moderation.
