Abstract

Every language has its own grammatical system, and this makes shift when translating cannot be avoided. Catford (1965) introduces two kinds of shifts in translation: level shifts and category shifts. He further explains that there are four categories in category shift, including structure shift, class shift, unit shift and intra-system shift. The aim of this article to analyze the translation shift in the novel “City of Fallen Angels” by Cassandra Clare and its Indonesian by Meda Satria. The writers focus on the category shifts in noun clause that be found in the novel “City of Fallen Angels” by Cassandra Clare and its translation. The data were analyzed by applying the qualitative descriptive method. The result shows that there are 134 data, it can be classified as follows : 57 data of unit shift (42%), 44 data of structure shift (33%), 19 data of class shift (14%), and 14 data of intra-system shift (11%)..

Abstract

The aim of this study is to provide training on the technique of making a business letter in English for teachers of SMK Muhammadiyah Slipi Jakarta. Business letter is a letter that is used by a person, organization or institution that deliver business messages in writing to the other party by using a specific media whether it is sending via postal mail, faksmilie, telephone or the internet. The activity of writing a business letter is seen as simple and easy work, but to do it optimally of course required expertise is needed. To write business letter does not require special skills as a writer of novels, poetry, short stories or other literary works, because essentially a business letter is not a literary work. Nonetheless, to wite a good business letter is often not as simple as people imagine, because there are certain rules and habits that are generally applicable and must be met by each author of the letter. Therefore, the words and sentences in the letter should be prepared effectively and efficiently. The accuracy and detail are needed to ensure the contents of the letter are intended by the sender.  Therefore, the outcomes is that the teachers in SMK Muhammadiyah 4 can teach his or her students SMK Muhammadiyah 4 how to create a business letter in English that is good and right so that later after they graduate it can be applied upon entering the workforce. Keywords: Business letter, Teacher Training, Vocational School

Abstract

Penggunaan media pembelajaran seperti aplikasi/platform merupakan suatu tantangan tersendiri bagi tenaga pendidik. Hal ini juga menjadi salah satu kendala yang dihadapi oleh mitra SMA PGRI 4 Cipayung Jakarta Timur sebagai acuan bagi tim abdimas Unindra. Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah memberikan pengetahuan baru kepada para guru SMA PGRI 4 Cipayung Jakarta Timur agar dapat menggunakan aplikasi Prezi untuk membantu menyajikan materi presentasi agar lebih menarik. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan abdimas ini dilakukan dalam beberapa tahap yaitu: Survei dan observasi pada mitra untuk mengetahui sejauh mana pemahaman para guru terkait dengan aplikasi Prezi, kemudian tim melakukan proses Perencanaan meliputi jadwal pelatihan dan media yang digunakan dalam menyampaikan materi serta evaluasi dari penggunaan aplikasi Prezi terhadap para guru. Hasil pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah para guru dapat menyajikan materi dari berbagai mata pelajaran dengan hasil presentasi yang lebih menarik berbeda dengan software Power Point yang pada umumnya sering digunakan oleh para guru.

Abstract

Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah untuk memberikan pelatihan kepada remaja karang taruna 52 Kalisari Cijantung sebagai role model untuk remaja seusianya. Tim pelaksana memberikan input mengenai penerapan metode pembelajaran yang tepat guna dalam belajar bahasa Inggris melalui media sosial untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris. Metode pembelajarannya menggunakan media sosial salah satunya Instagram sebagai media pembelajaran bahasa Inggris.  Dengan menerapkan metode pembelajaran ini para remaja karang taruna 52 diharapkan dapat berlatih berkomunikasi dalam bahasa Inggris dengan mudah. Pembelajaran dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran melalui media sosial ini diharapkan dapat memberikan hasil dan manfaat pembelajaran yang diwujudkan ke dalam luaran (output) pembelajaran agar dapat digunakan khalayak ramai, dalam hal ini secara khusus terhadap dunia pendidikan dan pengajaran. Dimana saat ini pembelajaran yang dilakukan adalah melalui daring. Adapun kendala dalam pembelajaran daring ini adalah kuota internet yang harus dimiliki oleh para siswa atau pelajar. Walaupun ada kendala dalam melakukan pembelajaran daring, kegiatan pembelajaran melalui media sosial dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris diharapkan dapat meningkatkan pemahaman kosakata (vocabulary) dan kemampuan berbicara (speaking) para remaja Kartun 52 RT 05 RW 02 Cijantung Kalisari Jakarta Timur.

Abstract

This study deals with the psychological aspect of main character in A Beautiful Mind movie by Ron Howard. The study focus to find the dominant symptom of schizophrenia experienced by the main character.The study used the qualitative method with descriptive analysis technique. The data are taken from the scenes and dialogues in A Beautiful Mind movie. The subject of the research is John Nash as the main Character of A Beautiful Mind movie and the object are the schizophrenic symptoms. After analyzing the psychological of main character in A Beautiful Mind movie the writers found 35 data of schizophrenic symptoms. Twenty four data or 68, 5% of the data shows the positive symptom of schizophrenia, these are shown by the hallucination, delusion, speech and behavior disorder John Nash experience. Eleven data or 31, 5% of the data shows the negative symptom of schizophrenia which are shown in John Nash interaction in social life and lack of enjoyment in life.

Abstract

The purpose of this community service activity is to provide socialization about the integration of bilingual methods. The mastery of foreign languages is something that cannot be dismissed in the current era of globalization. Therefore, the Unindra abdimas team conducted a socialization to integrate bilingual learning methods (Indonesian and English) in learning at SMK Meilia Medika. This activity was carried out to improve students' competence in English and prepare them to face competition in the global workforce. Activities carried out in the form of intensive training for teachers, preparation of bilingual teaching materials, and implementation of bilingual classes in several subjects. Through this socialization, it is hoped that all stakeholders, including teachers, students, and parents, will understand the importance of the bilingual method and play an active role in its success. The expected outcome of this program is the improvement of students' English language skills and the creation of a more dynamic and interactive learning environment.

Abstract

This study aims to explain the strengthening between the mentality of educators and the Merdeka Belajar Curriculum in the era of Society 5.0. An individual's view of their abilities and potential, with the belief that abilities can be developed through continuous effort, practice, and learning experiences. Meanwhile, the Merdeka Belajar Curriculum authorizes schools to design a curriculum that is responsive to the needs and potential of students. The research method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative approach by conducting literature studies and conceptual analysis. This research combines the concepts of mentality and Merdeka Belajar Curriculum to identify the relationship between the two in the Society 5.0 era. The data collected will be analyzed thematically to gain a comprehensive understanding of the relevance and practical implications of combining these two concepts in today's educational context. The results of this study will provide insight into how the implementation of mentality in the Merdeka Belajar Curriculum in the era of Society 5.0 and can develop adaptability and innovation in the independent learning curriculum in the era of Society 5.0.
