Abstract

The aims of this study are to find out some postcolonial values in English textbooks second grades, they are: (1) Western Superiority, (2) Eastern Subordination, and (3) Mimicry.This research is a qualitative descriptive study focusing on library research. The object of research is an English textbook which includes: (1) Pathway to English by Erlangga Publisher, (2) Talk Active by Yudhistira Publisher, and (3) Bahasa Inggris by the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud). The results of this study are found Western Superiority, Eastern Subordination and Mimicry (as postcolonial forms) of English Textbooks. The forms are Western Superiority, Eastern Subordination, and Mimicry. The forms Postcolonial most found in this research are Western Superiority and Cultural Mimicry. Western superiority tends to bring out the advantages that the Western has had. While the cultural mimicry is impersonation and immitation (which is expected by English learners) to Western culture. Thus, it can be concluded that the western influences in the books are seen from the description of the positive edges and the omission of the negative sides of the West. Abstract

By communicating we use a language that can be understood by the interlocutor or listener, Therefore, the most fundamental language function is to serve as a medium of communication, socialization, and relationship from one to another, so that a social system or a society might be established. The phenomenon of code switching and code mixing has long intrigued scholars who have researched what triggered the incident. The phenomenon of code switching, and code mixing has become a trend or language style in society, especially among young people. They are very familiar with code switching or mixing in their speech. In addition to young people and even older people, many of them use code-mixing languages and code switching, this is already familiar to us. This phenomenon also appears in the film the researcher studied under the title "Dear Love". In this film, film artists often mix their language in the speech between Indonesian and English. therefore, it becomes an attraction for the author to become the object of research hopefully that it will become something new and useful for readers to learn another language fun and easily. This research is qualitative research with data collection method using documentation, observation, and literature review. As for the analysis, researchers analyzed the dialogue that contain code switching and code mixing. The result of this study indicate there were 34 scenes containing 19 analysis of code switching and 15 is an analysis of code mixing. So it can be concluded that Dear Love film can be one of the film references for the world especially for teenagers it can be used as a reference for learning languages and can improve the quality of the language. So that this film can be a tool to give entertainment and learning for the audience. Keywords : Code Switching, Code Mixing, Dear Love film

Abstract

The aims of this study are (1) to find out the types of idiomatic expressions used in Cinta Laura's vlog. (2) To describe the meaning of the idioms used in the vlog by Cinta Laura. In analyzing the data, this study uses content analysis techniques by comparing the data, and verbally describing, then interpreting the findings to make conclusions. Moreover, the research found 24 idiomatic expressions from5 content youtube vlog vidio Cinta Laura. Where each vlog vidio content has a different duration. Then from the 24 idiomatic expressions, 11 idioms were found that belong to the idiomatic type use by Cinta Laura based on the theory of FacitilyO’dell and McCarthy. There are 6 types of idiomatic expressions based on theory Facility O’dell and McCarthy, of wich only 4 conveyed by Cinta Laura in someof her vidio vlog. and of the 4 types found by the researcher, the one that is often used in idiomatic expressions in the vlog vidio is the type of idiomin the formof a fixed statements found in the idiomatic expressions and the second is in the formof proverb of idiomatic expressions which are include in the proverb types, thereare 2 types, while the third, namely the idiomatic types in the formof cliches asmany as 2 idiomatic expressions, and the last type of idiomatic in the formof binomials, namely only there is one idiomatic expression that belongs to this type. Abstract

This research investigates the use of English deixis in the lyrics of "Light Switch" by Charlie Puth. As a key linguistic element, deixis is crucial for interpreting meaning in communication. The study aims to identify the types of deixis present in the lyrics and analyze their functions. Adopting a descriptive qualitative approach, the research focuses on three primary types of deixis: person deixis, spatial deixis, and temporal deixis..The findings reveal that person deixis dominates the lyrics, with a total of 70 occurrences, followed by temporal deixis (3 occurrences) and spatial deixis (2 occurrences). The frequent use of person deixis, especially the pronouns "I" and "you," suggests a strong emphasis on personal interaction and emotional expression in the song. The study concludes that deixis in song lyrics plays a significant role in conveying the intended message, emotions, and meaning. Keywords: deixis, song lyric, pragmatics.
