Abstract

 This paper aims to investigate whether the university students who are taught reading through Reciprocal Teaching Method achieve better in reading ability than those who are taught through Direct Reading Thinking Activities. The design of this study is a quasi-experimental, non-randomized control group, pretest-posttest since it is conducted in a classroom setting that the subjects have been organized into classes. The subject of the study was the fourth term of university students of English education study program consisting 30 university students. The instrument of this research was a test as Pre-test and Post-test in the form of reading comprehension questions. The data analysis used Independent T-Test. Based on the result of the calculation of post-test from experimental and control groups, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. The result of the study shows that the use of the Reciprocal Teaching Method can improve the university students’ reading ability. It proves the hypothesis of the study that students who are taught reading through the Reciprocal Teaching method achieve better in reading ability than those who are taught through Direct Reading Thinking Activities. Based on this result, it can be concluded that the Reciprocal Teaching Method can be used as an alternative method to teach reading, so that the students are able to understand the texts comprehensively. It also makes the university students more active in the teaching learning process and can improve their ability as well.

Abstract

AbstractThis paper critically aims to enhance English vocabularies among EFL young learners of the fifth grade students through picture-word inductive model at elementary school Zainul Hasan Genggong Probolinggo in the academic year of 2019-2020. The research problem is How is the effective picture-word inductive model to enhance vocabulary among young learners of elemantary school Zainul Hasan Genggong Probolinggo? The type of the research is classroom action research. It was conducted in two cycles. The subjects of the research were 20 students of fifth grade. The data were collected from the test, interview, documentation and observation. The result showed that the students had increased their English vocabulary mastery which can be seen from the test result provided by the researcher. This is the evident from the test result that overall there was an increase in the English vocabulary mastery of 5 grade students as much as 50.70 % in the first cycle and 85.54 % in the second cycle. Meanwhile, the observation result showed that the students seemed more enthusiastic during the learning process.  In reference to the actions conducted in two cycles, the use of the picture-word inductive model enhances the students’ vocabulary by practicing words into sentences and more attention on mechanical aspects such as spelling and pronunciation. Keywords : Young Learners, Vocabulary Mastery, Picture-word inductive model.

Abstract

This recent study aims to examine the improvement of students’ vocabulary mastery through digital storytelling at the fifth grade of elementary school Zainul Hasan Genggong Kraksaan Probolinggo and describe the implementation of digital storytelling in teaching vocabulary at the fifth grade of elementary school Zainul Hasan Genggong Kraksaan.  The research design is Classroom Action Research. The participants were the teacher (collaborator) and the fifth grade of elementary school Zainul Hasan Genggong Kraksaan Probolinggo. Data collection was an interview and vocabulary test. The data obtained were analyzed using descriptive qualitative and descriptive statistic. The findings revealed that the use of digital storytelling media was effective to engage students’ vocabulary mastery. It gives students to have chances to practice the vocabulary in their language skills. Meanwhile, the result of quantitative data showed that there was a significant and consistent improvement of students’ mean score in pre-cycle (44, 42), cycle 1 (45.03) and cycle 2 ( 73.89). Thus, there was approximately 29.42 point of improvement during the cycles. The result indicates that the use of digital storytelling media is effective to engage the students’ vocabulary mastery of the  fifth grade of elementary school Zainul Hasan Genggong Kraksaan Probolinggo.

Abstract

The recent article intends to describe the application of grammatical cohesive devices on the articles of Bog-Bog Bali Cartoon Magazine and to figure out the effect of grammatical cohesive devices on text to be coherent and unified. The article uses library research with collected from written texts. The data are qualitative data taken from Bog-Bog Bali Cartoon Magazine which were published in 2003. The articles are written texts. The Text is realized by 38 ranks (non-embedded) clauses and 6 ranks shifted (embedded) clauses. There is also cohesion between elements in each text of Bog-Bog Bali Magazine. The use of reference such as personal (e.g., we, us, their, them, it, etc), demonstrative reference (one, the, that, this), comparative reference which shows degree of comparison (e.g., same, finest, most, latest) is often used in the articles. In fact, text one consists of 37 elements of anaphoric reference, 7 elements of cataphoric reference and 7 elements of exophoric reference. . In summary, it reveals that grammatical cohesive can make the text coherent and unified.

Abstract

Studi ini memaparkan tentang peningkatan kreatifitas anak usia dini melalui cerita bergambar di sekolah dasar Zainul Hasan genggong Probolinggo. Rumusan masalah yakni (1) bagaimana penerpaan cerita bergambar dalam meningkatkan kreatifitas anak di Sekolah Dasar Zainul Hasan Genggong Probolinggo, (2) Apa saja faktor pendukung dan penghambat kreatifitas anak usia dini di sekolah dasar Zainul Hasan Genggong Probolinggo. Manfaat yang diharapkan dari penelitian ini untuk menambah wawaan bagi guru-guru anak usia dini menjaidi guru yang prosefisonal dan berkompeten dibidangnya dan meningkatkan mutu pembelajaran di kelas. Metode penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif yang mana datana diperoleh melalui metode observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Dari hasil penelitian ini ditemukan bahwa penerapan metode cerita bergambar dapat meningkatkan kreativitas anak di sekolah dasar Zainul Hasan Genggong Probolinggo. Oleh karenanya, kepada guru untuk lebih mengoptimalkan kegiatan belajar mengajar dengan menggunakan media buku cerita bergambar yang menarik, menyenangkan dan bervariasi.

Abstract

This paper critically aims to explain and describe the comparison between English and French simple personal pronoun. The comparison will be based on the form of simple personal pronoun related to the gender and show the similarities and dissimilarities between English and French simple personal pronoun. The method that is used in this study is descriptive method which covers descriptive and comparative techniques. The descriptive research is aimed to solve the problems in recent time. This study reveals some conclusion. (1) The inflection of French personal pronoun changes fully. (2) The declension of personal pronoun is complex according to gender beginning with the first person, second person and third person. Each declension of French have a specific form, depends on gender. The form of predicate is wide according to the gender. (3) The inflection of English personal pronoun is simpler than French because some terms of its declension have the same form (e.g. I, We, You, They). (4) The declension of French personal pronoun is complex and has a close relation with the predicate, because French verbs have three kinds of conjugation and its personal pronoun has its personal endings for the each term.

Abstract

Abstract An analysis on the students’ error in writing recount text. The purpose of this research is to identify and classify the types of errors, and the factors that cause errors. There are two objectives of this study; 1. To find out the types of errors made by students in writing recount texts. 2. To detect the causes of errors made by students. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative with case study research design. Researchers used data collection procedures through observation, interviews, and documentation. The subjects in this research were the second grade students at MA Sunan Ampel Kamalkuning-Krejengan, which consisted of 32 students in one class. The results of this research indicate that the most frequent errors when making recount texts are grammatical errors, especially in the use of tenses, in recount texts using the simple past tense and they make a lot of errors and are fooled when using verb-2 such as the word “go” which should change to “went”, “visit” to “visited”, “stay” to “stayed”, “meet” to “met” because of the past tense. Some students also made errors in the structure of the recount text series, namely orientation, events, and re-orientation in that section, and students also make errors in writing or producing vocabulary, for example “Friend” becomes “frend”, “Last” becomes “lass”, “Week” becomes “wiik/weak/wit”, “Then” becomes “dhen”. In addition, there are several factors that cause errors made by students, namely carelessness or carelessness, first language disorders, and translation. Abstract

AbstractEnglish day is a daily program where this activity is carried out every day for a month in order to determine the effectiveness or development of speaking in the rest of class XI at Senior High School Zainul Hasan 1 Genggong High. The purpose of this study is 1)To determine the fluency of students' speaking in the eleventh grade before the English Day program. 2)To familiarize students with speaking English every day in class. 3)To improve the speaking of students in the eleventh grade by using tool speaking fluency, memorize vocabulary, spel pronounciation, story telling. The research method used by the researcher is a qualitative method. Data collection techniques used in the study were in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The data validity technique uses the alternative hypothesis and the zero hypothesis. The data analysis technique uses questionnaires and tests. The results of this study indicate that the English Day program is very influential in improving students' speaking.Keyword: Effectiveness, English day program, Students Speaking Ability AbstrakEnglish day merupakan program harian dimana kegiatan ini dilakukan setiap hari selama satu bulan dalam rangka mengetahui efektifitas atau perkembangan speaking pada siswa kelas XI selebihnya di SMA Zainul Hasan 1 Genggong. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah 1)Untuk mengetahui kelancaran berbicara siswa di kelas sebelas sebelum program English Day. 2) Membiasakan siswa berbicara bahasa Inggris setiap hari di kelas. 3) Untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa di kelas sebelas dengan menggunakan alat kelancaran berbicara, menghafal kosa kata, pengucapan ejaan, bercerita. Metode penelitian yang digunakan oleh peneliti adalah metode kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah wawancara mendalam, observasi, dan dokumentasi. Teknik validitas data menggunakan hipotesis alternatif dan hipotesis nol. Teknik analisis data menggunakan angket dan tes. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa program English Day sangat berpengaruh dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa.Kata Kunci: Keefektifan, English day program, Meningkatkan berbicara siswa

Abstract

AbstractThis research is about the contraints of speaking skills in English. The purpose of this research is mainly to 1. describe the students' problems in speaking and 2. to describe effective solutions to overcome constraints in speaking, the participants of this study were 13 students who were at seven grade in Islamic Junior High School of Darul Ulum, the instruments used in this research were observation, interview, and documentation. After getting the data results, the researcher continued to analyze and determine the categories of speaking difficulties, and teacher constraints when teaching. The results of this research showed that 80% had difficulty with 20% learning as usual, the most prominent problems in the speaking process consisted of minimal vocabulary, poor pronunciation, and grammatical errors. Other factors include an unsupportive environment that causes students to not have enough motivation to learn English, teachers play an active role in overcoming problems such as providing vocabulary continuously, creating a pleasant learning atmosphere, and motivating students in speaking learning.Keywords: Student Contraints, Speaking, Islamic Junior High School of Darul Ulum
