Abstract

Today, The need for information continues to grow as advances in the world of technology and information. Information technology is getting almost inseparable from life, whether corporate, government, entertainment, etc. The one of the most technology used in recent years is multilevel inverters. The usage of these applications has become more diverse and affects a wide field of electrical engineering from a few watts to several hundred megawatts. One of the most multilevel inverters used nowadays is diode clamped multilevel inverters. The diode clamped inverter, particularly the three-level one, has drawn much interest in motor drive applications because it needs only one common voltage source. Also, simple and efficient PWM algorithms have been developed for it, even if it has inherent unbalances dc-link capacitor voltage problem. In this thesis author has designed a 3-phase 5-levels diode clamped multilevel inverter using MATLAB Simulink and MOSFET as the switching device and PWM technique as the pulse generator, then comparing the MOSFET and transistor as switching device. Based on simulation results, design of 3-phase 5-levels diode clamped multilevel inverter system has a good performance by using MOSFET as switching device than using IGBT and also has smooth signal after filtered by 2nd order low pass filter. Keywords: Multilevel inverter, diode clamped, IGBT, modulation, MATLAB Simulink

Abstract

Abstract

The Seven Step multilevel inverter has 3 H – Bridge switching circuits which are designed from transistor and IGBT semiconductor circuits. The performance of the switches is regulated by the ignition unit which consists of pulses of frequency with a certain ignition angle. This pulse pulse determines the output voltage form of the H-Bridge multilevel inverter circuit. The output voltage form is a square pulse. There are seven step output voltage levels that are close to a sinusoidal shape, but still contain high levels of harmonics. This large Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) can be overcome by increasing the number of levels or steps in the output voltage by adding an H-Bridge strand to the next level. The modeling of this 7 step multilevel inverter circuit is designed using Matlab Simulink Tools.

Abstract

Abstract

Seaweed drying is a crucial step in maintaining product quality and shelf life. However, conventional methods still face significant challenges, including high energy consumption, reliance on fossil fuels, and instability in quality due to environmental variability. This research developed a prototype hybrid-powered seaweed dryer that simultaneously utilizes solar and wind energy and is equipped with an automated control system to monitor and regulate temperature and humidity during the drying process. The prototype canoperate in both manual and automatic modes, making it suitable for small-scale production and off-grid environments. Test results demonstrated that the prototype can effectively utilize hybrid renewable energy sources while maintaining adaptive protection and control based on environmental conditions, offering a cost-effective and environmentally friendly solution for small-scale seaweed farmers This article presents measurable results in the form of output voltage, current, and power generated by the solar panel andwind turbine, which demonstrate the capability of the hybrid energy system to supply power for the seaweed dryer. The novelty of this research lies in the integration of dual energy sources with an automated control system, which has not been widely implemented in previous seaweed dryers. This approach improves energy efficiency, lowers operational costs, and offers a sustainable solution for seaweed production, while supporting the development of environmentally friendly drying technologies.

Abstract

Abstract

Wind energy is one of the green energy sources that can decrease reliance on fossil fuels such as oil and coal. Wind turbines harness the kinetic energy of the wind and transform it into mechanical energy, which is subsequently converted into electrical energy using a DC generator. The generated DC voltage is transformed into AC voltage by an inverter unit. However, conventional inverters generally produce square-wave outputs with high total harmonic distortion (THD), whereas AC power systems ideally require sinusoidal waveforms with low harmonic content. This research proposes the design of a renewable energy–based power supply system capable of generating both DC and AC voltages for low-power applications. The novelty of the proposed system lies in the use of a five-level inverter with fewer switching devices than the cascaded inverter topology, combined with a T-model inductive-capasitive-inductive (LCL) filter to suppress harmonic distortion at the inverter output. The method involves modeling and simulating the system design using MATLAB Simulink. Simulation results show that the five-level inverter produces an output voltage amplitude of 270 V at 50 Hz with a THD of 28.48 %. After applying the LCL filter (L1 = L2 = 0.01 H and C = 1 mF), the THD decreases to 2.56 % for a 10 Ω resistive load, 2.61 % for an RL load (100 Ω, 0.8 mH), and 2.54 % for an RC load (10 Ω, 1 µF). These values comply with the IEEE 519 standard requiring THD below 5 %. Therefore, the proposed system has potential for small-scale renewable energy applications.

Abstract

The Drangrang farmer group’s agricultural garden, located at RT10 RW03, Tirtajaya Village, Sukmajaya District, Depok, covers an area of approximately 1,500 m². The land is used to cultivate vegetables and crops such as corn, peanuts, and cucumbers. Electricity for agricultural operations is supplied by a Solar Power Plant (PLTS) with an initial capacity of 100 Wp. However, along with land expansion and increased load demand, the existing PLTS system could no longer meet energy needs, requiring a capacity upgrade. This community service activity aimed to provide technical assistance for the installation of additional solar panels to increase the PLTS capacity and fulfill electricity requirements for lighting and water pumps. The method included equipment procurement, system assembly in the garden area, and PLTS testing. The activity was carried out by lecturers and students from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Gunadarma University. The stages consisted of design, installation, testing, and measurement. The upgraded PLTS system now provides 200 Wp, capable of supplying four lighting points and one 160 W water pump. The additional capacity ensures a safer and more continuous power supply, supporting improved agricultural productivity and operational efficiency of the farmer group.

Abstract

This paper discusses a cascade inverter 9 three-phase power system using a Cascade H Bridge inverter type with a DC Fuel Cell voltage source. The goal is to reduce the Total Harmonic Distrotion (THD) content in the output waveform in accordance with IEEE 519 standards below 5%. At each level the inverter is supplied by the fuel cell as a DC source and in series with the next level inverter circuit to get 9 output voltage levels. The switch performance of each level is controlled by PWM pulses at the level of different amplitudes but the same frequency. Unlike conventional approaches that rely solely on low-level inverters or fixed DC sources, this study proposes the implementation of a nine-level cascade H-Bridge inverter topology powered by a DC fuel cell with three-phase multi-carrier modulation technique to produce high-quality sinusoidal voltage. This system shows increased efficiency, harmonic reduction, and more optimal utilization of green energy. Simulation results show that the output voltage form of each phase inverter is a 9-level ladder wave with a THD of 13.67%. By installing a low pass filter, the output voltage waveform changes to sinusoidal with and THD can be reduced to 2.92%. The power system with this THD value can still be tolerated to occur in an electric power system
