Abstract

The knowledge of society regarding “dental quack/street dentistry” can determine the individual’s behaviors in responding their existence Knowledge influenced by education, employment, age, interest, experience, culture, and source of information. The purpose of this study was to determine the knowledge of community around Dental Hospital of Faculty of Dentistry Universitas Padjadjaran regarding “dental quack/street dentistry”. This study was a descriptive study with survey techniques. Samples were taken by purposive sampling method with the sample size of 99 people. The result of this study showed that majority knowledge of the community was less than 40.40%. The conclusion of this study was the knowledge of community around Dental Hospital of Faculty of Dentistry Universitas Padjadjaran regarding “dental quack/street dentistry” was low.

Abstract

Introduction: The habit of smoking, can cause dependence for smokers and also it can cause various diseases and health problems, both physical health and oral health. Smoking habits are also occured in the health students which they should show good example to the community to live a healthy lifestyle, including a role as well as to reduce their smoking habits, and also providing information to the effects of smoking. The purpose of this study was to determine the dependence rate of smoking in undergraduate Dental School Faculty of Dentistry, Padjadjaran University. Methods: This study was a descriptive type using the survey technique. Sampling was conducted with a snowball technique. The sample of 39 smokers comprising 24 men and 15 women. Respondents filled in questionnaires and the responses to questionnaires have different points to determine the level of smoking dependence. Results: The results shows that about 76.9% of the total sample included in the category of dependence rate of smoking are very low, 20.5% with a lower category, and 2.6% with the medium category. Conclusion: Smoker students in undergraduate Dental School has a very low level of dependence.

Abstract

Introduction: Dental treatment is considered not very important, but the benefits are vital in supporting health and appearance. Oral health knowledge affects a person’s behavior of maintaining oral hygiene. Efforts to oral health care should be done at early age. The purpose of this study was to determine oral health knowledge of students in grade 5 and 6 of Sekeloa 1 and 2 Elementary School Bandung. Methods: This study was a descriptive study with survey method. The method used in sampling was total sampling with a sample size of 158 students in grade 5 and 6 in Sekeloa 1 and 2 Elementary School Bandung. The data was obtained by distributing questionnaires to the objects. Results: Oral health knowledge of student’s in grade 5 and 6 in Sekeloa 1 and 2 Elemantary School Bandung are in 38 respondents (24.1%) with good category; 85 respondents (53,8%) with moderate category; and 35 respondents (22.2%) with less category. Conclusion: Oral health knowledge of 5 and 6 grades of Sekeloa 1 and 2 Elementary School Bandung was moderate.

Abstract

Introduction: Many factors associated with poor health habits are initiated during adolescence. This is because as a teenager they have the feeling that they are unique and invulnerable that makes them think that the disease or disorder will not enter into their lives. Based on this, teenagers can have a bad habit for their oral health, thus increasing the level of caries in their mouths. The purpose of this study was to get data on the caries experience (DMF-T index) with D1-D2 scale on students. Method: This type of research is descriptive. The technique used in this sampling is simple random sampling, the sample is 266 students consisting of 109 men and 157 women. Prevalence rate of caries adjusted with 2004 Household Health Survey and DMFT category based on World Health Organization. Result: The results showed that the prevalence of caries in college students of Al-Ihsan Islamic boarding school is 90.6%. DMF-T index in college students of Al-Ihsan Islamic boarding school is 4.18. D1 scale that was found was 280 cases. D2 is the scale found 335 cases. and dental caries were found at 949 cases. Conclusion: Prevalence of caries and DMF-T index with D1-D2 scale on students are prevalence of dental caries is higher than prevalence in 2004 Household Health Survey. DMF-T index is  moderate, while the D1 scale found 280 cases and the D2 scale found 335 cases.
