Abstract

At the end of 2021, the President of the Republic of Indonesia has signed the formation of the National Commission for Disabilities (KND). They certainly need research data to support research-based policies. This article formulates the applied philosophy of disability-responsive Islamic higher education in Indonesia with a case study at IAIN Alaudin Makassar. This study uses a philosophical, phenomenological and educational policy approach. The data collected by observation, interviews and documentation were then analyzed with a philosophical and phenomenological perspective within the framework of education policy. This study concludes that the most important thing and is the main capital in building an inclusive campus is the issue of world view, namely the philosophical foundation that gives birth to the attitudes, behavior and culture of the campus community and society as a whole to build an inclusive campus for students with disabilities. With a philosophical vision of becoming a center for enlightenment and transformation of science and technology based on Islamic civilization, this is a curriculum idea that has the potential to be reconstructed into a curriculum document as a reference in curriculum implementation in achieving disability-responsive educational goals. This framework of thinking is part of an applied Islamic paradigm that is in line with the reasoning of the religion of peace or as a form of prophetic thinking paradigm based on theo-anthropocentric existentialist philosophy of  Islamic Religious Higher Education in Indonesia

Abstract

The interest in studying among students with disabilities is very high, but the availability of PTKIN, which has provided aspects of higher education for persons with disabilities, is still limited. This study aims to examine the implementation model of accommodative higher education for persons with disabilities at UIN Alaudin Makassar. This research is qualitative field research where the data collection technique uses survey, interview, and documentation methods. The data analysis technique uses an interactive model developed by Miles and Huberman. The primary data sources are the Rector, vice-rectors, lecturers, academics, and students with disabilities. The results showed that the views and understanding of leaders and lecturers at UIN Alauddin Makassar are still traditional, although there is also a tendency to have social nuances. The learning system at UIN Alauddin Makassar is still nuanced; integration has yet to organize inclusive education. The environment and campus buildings are not fully accessible to persons with disabilities.

Abstract

This study explores community perspectives on individuals with disabilities, recognizing consensus despite diverse viewpoints. Individuals with disabilities, whether physical or non-physical, are acknowledged to exhibit specific deficiencies while excelling in other aspects, warranting specialized attention, treatment, and facilities distinct from those serving non-disabled individuals. Our analysis, which uses qualitative field research methods, reveals a lack of public awareness of disability jurisprudence, especially in Yogyakarta. Interviews revealed a lack of awareness among the Muslim community, emphasizing the crucial role of disability Fiqh in guiding rituals and determining the validity of worship practices for individuals with disabilities. The findings underscore an information gap on the Fiqh of disability empowerment in Yogyakarta, emphasizing the need for a broader awareness campaign through various media channels. In addition, people with disabilities face significant challenges during worship, necessitating concrete collaborative efforts from the government, religious organizations, and the wider community to provide facilities and support. It is imperative to increase public understanding of disability jurisprudence and make concerted efforts to address information gaps, fostering a more inclusive worship environment for people with disabilities.

Abstract

This study discusses the accessibility of university education in the four public universities in Yogyakarta; Indonesian Arts Institute (ISI), University of Gajah Mada (UGM), Yogyakarta State University (UNY), and State Islamic University (UIN) Sunan Kalijaga. Upto now, the disability groups have not got an equal access and the opportunity in a higher education. There are only a few students with disabilities that are accepted in Universities in Indonesia, because of physical limitations that would interfere the teaching-learning process in their classrooms. The research findings showed that the education systems in the UGM, Yogyakarta State University, and the ISI have a system of “integration”, while at UIN has led to the inclusion system, that is “accommodative”, and has the ability to service for persons with disabilities.
