The design used in this research is pre-test and post-test group design. Sampling was done by cluster random sampling technique, and obtained grade X MS-1 as a control group and grade X MS-3 as a experimental group. Data collecting used some methods as documentations, tests, observation, and questionnaires. The test is used to analyze the data is the estimated average test results of cognitive learning and mastery learning classical test. Test results obtained by the proportion of cognitive mastery learning classical was 26 of 30 students achieving minimum completeness criteria for experimental group, and only 18 of 30 students in the control group achieving minimum completeness criteria. Research result shown the average estimate in the experimental group was 79,7 to 85,9 and control group was between 72,8 to 80,8. Abstract

Experiment is integral part of chemistry. Through experiments, everyone can verify and or find something new as an alternative solution to attract interest in meaningful chemistry learning. Innovative experimental packaging can be done with Small Scale Chemistry (SSC) to establish the importance of understanding and application related to the use of small amounts of reagents and reduce waste produced during chemistry practicum. This study aims to explore and analyze the science process skills of the second semester students of Chemistry Education Study Program, Sanata Dharma University, which focused for chemistry grade 12 in water electrolysis using straws and mini test tubes as physical chemistry’s experiment and formation reaction of silver mirror uses vial bottle and mirror media as experiment of organic chemistry. The results show that students’ science process skills which includes observation skills with good average score, prediction skills with good enough average score, skills in interpreting data with good average scores, and communication skills with good average score for two kind of experiments conducted. In general, students were enthusiastic in carrying out the two SSC experiments. The students also evaluate the experiments to be able to help develop and improve their soft skills in chemistry learning. Abstract

The use of non-renewable energy sources such as fossil fuels is very contrary to the concept of sustainable development. The principles of green chemistry can be applied to laboratory work through experiments based on environmental issues such as energy. Biodiesel is an alternative fuel to replace fossil fuels which can be made through the process of transesterification of oils. This research aims to apply the principles of green chemistry in biodiesel synthesis experiments; designing and conducting thoughtful and efficient experiments; characterizing biodiesel products and knowing students' responses to green chemistry-based experiments in biodiesel synthesis. The results showed that the principles of green chemistry were successfully applied in the synthesis of biodiesel. Biodiesel products have a bright yellow colour, pH of 7, and density between 0.866-0.892 g/mL. Water contents range from 1.67-3.3, and acid numbers range from 0.69-4.3. 90/10 tests show the results between range 0.5-3% and kinematic viscosity from 4.195-4.995. Students showed a positive response of 75.36% in designing experimental procedures for greenchemistry-based biodiesel synthesis.

Abstract

Chemistry practicum does not have to be complicated and requires expensive apparatus and chemicals, and is considered not environmentally friendly. The concept of small scale chemistry practicum is one of appropriate technology that is packaged elegantly to introduce and embed the principles of green chemistry in every chemistry experiments, and also to enhance the concepts of chemistry through verification and scientific discovery. This study aims to create the newest product, the small scale chemistry practicum module to identify the ability of the students of chemistry education study program, Sanata Dharma University, Yogyakarta in formulating predictions on phenomenon based on the insights they have, making direct observations through small scale chemistry practicum, and explaining the results of observations and emphasis on concepts in detail and depth. This research is the development research with the model of Analysis, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate (ADDIE). Data were analyzed by descriptive analysis and Rasch Model. The results of the study show that the product developed has a perfect and feasible level of readability to be tested. From the content aspect, it presented in perfect criteria, as well as the construction aspect and aspect of language, also shows good value. The students already have quite an excellent ability to predict (average score= 76), observe (average score= 88.5), and explain (average score 87.5). Also, it was noted that students enthusiastically applied POE, and the results of POE students show good person reliability value (0.88) in small scale chemistry experiments. The product developed has been valid, effective, and practical for use in experiments according to experts and teachers, and good student responses (Cronbach's alpha value= 0.92) to the product.

Abstract

Chemistry learning integrates three components, microscopic, macroscopic, and symbolic. However, during the Corona Virus Disease-19 (COVID-19) pandemic, which lasted approximately two years, it caused delays in the learning process that integrated microscopic, macroscopic, and symbolic components, resulting in a decline in students' understanding. Therefore, community service brings new insights to chemistry teachers in Magelang city and introduces learning activities through small chemistry courses on acid-base titration materials with the theme of neutralization reactions.  This training was conducted by 2 lecturers and 3 students offline at SMAS Tarakanita Magelang. Based on the results of the satisfaction rating, 71.23% of the participants answered that it was very useful and 28.7% of the participants thought it was useful.

Abstract

Practicum is an activity that cannot be separated from chemical learning. Chemistry learning can be more meaningful through attractive practicum activities. One obstacle that arises in the implementation of the practicum is the availability of adequate practicum materials and tools. Small-scale chemistry practicum can overcome this obstacle, which is in the form of the use of materials that are environmentally friendly and available in the surrounding environment, as well as simple practicum tools that can be used. One of the small-scale chemistry practicums trained is the water electrolysis practicum. Simple practicum using sodium sulfate and water, able to explain the electrolysis of water well. Through this small-scale chemistry practicum training, teachers are expected to have the skills to carry out simple practicums and develop other practicum topics while still paying attention to the scientific field. Through this small-scale-based chemical practicum training, there is an increase in the mastery of the concept shown by an increase in the average score from 30.67 to 73.33. The teachers give a positive response regarding the implementation of this training activity.

Abstract

Student worksheets serve as valuable teaching materials facilitating students' learning processes by expanding information on the targeted study topics. In the context of learning redox reactions, Depok 1stState Senior High School exclusively utilizes printed student worksheets. This research focuses on developing electronic student worksheets assisted by the Wizer.me platform for redox reaction material in class, aiming to enhance the efficacy of the learning materials. The research employs a Research and Development (R&D) method, utilizing the 4D development model modified to 3D. Instruments such as interview sheets, validation sheets, and questionnaires were employed, with a sample comprising 10 students from 10th grade. Data analysis was conducted descriptively. The results of the research indicate that 4D models were instrumental in developing electronic student worksheets due to their clearly directed steps or procedures. The developed product exhibits high validity, scoring an average of 84% for both the media and material aspects, with a content validity coefficient exceeding 0.8. Students responded positively to the student worksheet products, rating them high in design (82%), operational and visual communication (83%), resulting in an overall average score of 83%, classified as very practical. The developed product proves effective in supporting the learning of redox reactions.

Abstract

Education not only teaches concepts but also the formation of attitudes and characters in preserving local culture. Knowledge of local wisdom is important because it is a means for students to better understand and love their culture. This study aims to determine the response of students and how the ability of prospective teachers to design local wisdom-based learning. A questionnaire and observation instrument were employed in this research. Students' perceptions of learning based on local wisdom were assessed. Besides, the ability of students in designing local wisdom-based learning activities was evaluated. This type of research is a qualitative descriptive study. The results of this research showed students' positive perception of learning based on local wisdom. The ability of students in designing learning activities gives good results. Local wisdom-based learning provides an opportunity for students to get to know their local culture and develop it into chemistry learning activities. The researcher of this study suggests the continuity of the implementation of local wisdom-based learning to preserve local wisdom values.
