Abstract

ABSTRACT. The existence of albumin in urine indicates kidney impairment, referred to as albuminuria. Early detection of kidney dysfunction can be done through the examination of urine albumin levels. This research aims to develop a microfluidic chip device for quantitative analysis of albumin in urine matrix solution using colorimetry with a smartphone-based device. The microfluidic chip device for albumin is tested and evaluated through functional tests and analysis of the quality of measurement data generated. The functional tests of the colorimetric system include testing the hydrophobic properties of the fluid on the material surface, fluid distribution pattern, color appearance, and leakage. The quality of measurement data is evaluated based on the predictive ability of the partial least squares regression models generated by data measurement for predicting the albumin levels accurately and precisely. A prototype of the microfluidic chip device for albumin was made from transparent acrylic material, with a 3-dimensional vertical fluid flow design consisting of two main parts: the inlet section and the colorimetric system for visual fluid observation. Based on the functional tests, it is found that the acrylic material in the colorimetric system has a hydrophilic surface characteristic with a contact angle of 61.15o. The fluid can flow and distribute well within the colorimetric system without producing bubbles. The color appearance in the colorimetric system is also visualized well without fluid leakage. On the other hand, RGB HSL data, as the digital image identity of the training and test samples, can be used as predictor variables. The method validation demonstrated acceptable sensitivity, with an LOD of 3.368 mg/dL and an LOQ of 11.825 mg/dL. Precision at 16 mg/dL showed good repeatability (RSD 0.561%, recovery 99.26%;) and reproducibility (RSD 2.147%, recovery 101.42%). These results confirm the method's reliability for albumin quantification at the tested concentration level. Keywords: Albumin, albuminuria, colorimetry, microfluidic chip, PLSR, urine analysis

Abstract

This study investigates the antioxidant potential and chemical profile of kombucha made from green tea leaves and roselle flowers, analyzing pH, alcohol content, and the impact of fermentation time. Kombucha was prepared with green tea and a 1:1 mixture of green tea and roselle, with samples analyzed on days 1, 4, 8, 12, 16, and 24. Antioxidant activity, pH, and alcohol content were measured, and statistical analyses including one-way ANOVA, Tukey HSD, and Spearman correlation tests were conducted. Results indicated that the combination kombucha exhibited higher antioxidant activity (96.39% DPPH inhibition) compared to green tea kombucha (79.62%). There was no significant difference in pH and alcohol content between the two types (p > 0.05). A strong negative correlation was found between pH and fermentation time (-0.589, p < 0.001) and pH and alcohol content (-0.571, p < 0.001), while a strong positive correlation was observed between % inhibition and fermentation time (0.637, p < 0.001). The findings suggest that combining green tea and roselle enhances antioxidant activity in kombucha, and fermentation time significantly affects antioxidant activity, pH, and alcohol content.

Abstract

This research aims to test the effectiveness of hand sanitizer based on kitolod leaf extract as a natural alternative for cleaning hands. The research method includes extraction of kitolod leaves, phytochemical testing, making hand sanitizer, antibacterial test, swab test, and analysis based on SNI 2588:2017 standards. Extraction of kitolod leaves using 96% ethanol and phytochemical tests showed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and steroids/triterpenoids. In the antibacterial test against Staphylococcus aureus, the hand sanitizer formula with 32% kitolod extract showed an inhibition zone of 19.7 ± 0.35 mm. The market hand sanitizer with 70-95% alcohol showed the highest inhibition zone (29.7 ± 5.15 mm). Quality testing of Formula 1 hand sanitizer with SNI 2588:2017 standards, shows that the product meets the established quality requirements. This product has a pH of 6.44 ± 0.45, the expected pH standard to avoid skin irritation. The TPC test results also show that this product's number of bacterial colonies is below the set limit of 2.75x102 ± 5.03 colonies/g, confirming the product's safety as a hand sanitizer.

Abstract

Lavender essential oil being one of the most used essential oils. Oxygenated monoterpenes are the largest constituent of lavender essential oil and the determinant of the characteristic aroma produced. Lavender flowers are composed of several ingredients, such as essential oils, alpha-pinene, beta-myrcene, limonene, cineol, linalool, terpinine-4-ol, and linalyl acetate. The aim of this study is to develop an efficient, effective, and profitable method of lavender oil extraction that can be used for commercial scale production, in order to determine which method is most suitable for scale-up production. The method used in this study is literature review with the results of literature reviews conducted, the method with the highest percentage of essential oil components is the use of innovative methods such as extraction with the help of microwaves (MW) with the percentage of linalool (32.90%) linaly acetate (27%), extraction with the help of ultrasonic (AS) with the percentage of linalool (37.6% ), linalyl acetate (18.4%)., supercritical fluid extraction (SF) with linalool (24%), extraction, and negative pressure extraction (NPCE) with linalool percentage (27.18%) linaly acetate (25.23%). While the smallest percentage of essential oil components in the use of molecular distillation is the percentage of Linalool (4.56%), linaly acetate (12.78%). The originality of this research contribution can open the door for further research and wider practical applications.

Abstract

The acid-base titration experiments at Senior High Schools typically use phenolphthalein and methyl orange indicators, which are relatively expensive and harmful to the environment. One of the plants containing anthocyanin pigments is boat lily (Rhoeo spathaceae (Sw.) Stearn) leaves. The research aims to determine the potential analysis of boat lily leaf extract as an alternative indicator used in chemistry learning in titration acid-base learning. The type of research used in this study is descriptive qualitative. Based on the research and discussion results, the pedagogical aspects carried out by chemistry teachers obtained results that using boat lily leaf extract indicators in acid-base titration in the acid-base chapter is appropriate and meets pedagogical terms to be applied by chemistry teachers. A review of chemistry teachers, laboratory employees, and students obtained results that the use of boat lily leaf extract indicators in acid-base titration in the acid-base chapter can be approved because it meets the aspects of ease to be applied in learning, understanding, and attractive to students, and ease of being provided in the laboratory. Based on the feasibility analysis of potential experiments, boat lily leaf extract is feasible based on financial aspects and shelf life resilience.

Abstract

Abstract and complex learning materials presented with monotonous models can lead to decreased motivation and suboptimal learning outcomes due to student boredom. This study aims to determine the effect of the make-a-match assisted scramble learning model on grade X students' learning motivation and learning outcomes on atomic structure material. The research method was quasi-experimental with a nonequivalent pretest-posttest control group design. The research location at A Sleman High School for the 2023/2024 academic year uses two research samples: class XC as an experimental class and class XG as a control class. The sampling technique used is cluster random sampling. Data were collected using learning motivation questionnaires and test questions. The Mann-Whitney test was applied to analyze the data, revealing significance values of 0.045 and 0.000, both below the 0.05 threshold. The results indicate that the make-a-match assisted scramble learning model significantly enhances learning motivation and outcomes for class X students on atomic structure material.
