Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology demands that young people possess adequate digital literacy skills to participate productively, ethically, and safely in the digital environment. However, several studies indicate that many youths still have limited understanding of how to use technology wisely, particularly in the areas of data privacy and online ethics. This community service program aimed to enhance the digital literacy capacity of young people in Panakkukang District, Makassar City, through educational and participatory approaches. The implementation method consisted of lectures, interactive discussions, and case-based simulations focusing on two main topics: basic digital literacy and online ethics. Evaluation was conducted through pre-test and post-test instruments that measured eight indicators of digital literacy using true–false statements. The results showed an improvement in six of the eight indicators, with the most significant increase observed in the “types of digital literacy” indicator (nine-point increase), while two indicators “digital security” and “personal data management” remained unchanged. Furthermore, more than 80% of participants actively engaged in discussions and reflection sessions, indicating high enthusiasm and the effectiveness of interactive learning in fostering critical digital awareness. This program demonstrates that participatory-based digital literacy training can significantly improve young people’s understanding of responsible technology use. Strengthening digital security and data privacy content is recommended as the main focus for future program development.

Abstract

The advancement of information technology offers significant opportunities for Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) to enhance business management through the adoption of structured Accounting Information Systems (AIS). However, many MSEs continue to face challenges in preparing financial statements that comply with the Financial Accounting Standards for Micro, Small, and Medium Entities (SAK EMKM). This community assistance initiative aims to support a bakery-sector MSE in implementing a SAK EMKM-based AIS to improve financial transparency, accountability, and reporting accuracy. The assistance was delivered through field observations, interviews, and hands-on training sessions with the business owner and employees focusing on the accounting cycle and recording techniques. The results indicate that the adoption of a more structured accounting system enabled the MSE to prepare monthly income statements, equity reports, and statements of financial position more systematically. The program also enhanced the entrepreneur’s financial literacy and supported more informed decision-making. These findings demonstrate that implementing a SAK EMKM-based AIS is effective in strengthening financial governance and promoting business sustainability for MSEs.

Abstract

This article aims to explore the effectiveness of Problem Based Learning (PBL) in accounting education through an in-depth theoretical review and literature analysis. PBL is widely recognized as a learner-centered approach intended to stimulate analytical, problem‐solving, and higher-order thinking skills which are essential competencies in accounting. This study employs a library research method by reviewing reputable journals from 2013 to 2024 that discuss PBL implementation in accounting courses, financial literacy education, auditing instruction, and the development of professional judgment. The analysis demonstrates that PBL improves conceptual understanding, strengthens technical reasoning, enhances student engagement, and increases accuracy in solving accounting cases. However, its effectiveness is influenced by several factors such as lecturer readiness, complexity of the problems presented, student digital literacy, and classroom management. This article concludes that PBL is an effective pedagogical model when implemented with proper scaffolding, structured assessment, and integration of real-world accounting cases.
