Abstract

The application of green chemistry is an effort to reduce the negative impact on the environment, one of which is eco-friendly dishwashing liquid soap. It hasn’t been commonly used by the public, including Roufus Sunnah Sucinaraja Garut Islamic Boarding School students. This community service activity aims to increase students’ knowledge about eco-friendly alternative chemicals in dishwashing liquid soap products. This activity is also expected to empower students to produce dishwashing liquid soap independently and have the provisions for entrepreneurship. The method in this community service is counselling and practice in making eco-enzyme-based dishwashing liquid soap. Pre-tests and post-tests were conducted on students during the implementation of the activity. They were enthusiastic about participating in this activity. The students’ understanding increased regarding eco-friendly chemicals for dishwashing liquid soap and their skills in making these products

Abstract

The health education program on skin diseases and environmental health conducted by the PKM Pharmacy Team of Garut University was held at the Tahfidz Qur’an Al-Yumna Islamic Boarding School in Garut, West Java. This program aimed to enhance the students' understanding and awareness of the importance of maintaining a clean and healthy lifestyle. The implementation methods included distributing brochures as an informational medium that could be re-read and delivering live presentations that allowed for two-way interaction. The results showed a significant improvement in students' understanding of various aspects, such as waste management using the 5R concept, ways to maintain environmental cleanliness, and the adverse effects of unclean environments. For example, understanding of waste sorting increased from 86% to 100% after the program. The program also emphasized the importance of personal hygiene to prevent contagious diseases like scabies, as well as maintaining water quality in accordance with health standards. Overall, the program successfully raised students' awareness and behavior regarding cleanliness and environmental health in the boarding school.

Abstract

Polypodium feei (P. feei) roots have been reported to contain sellegueain A, a compound with analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties demonstrated in experimental animals. However, the anti-inflammatory activity of extracts, which represent the form most used in traditional medicine, has not been scientifically validated. This study aims to test the anti-inflammatory activity of P. feei root extract in inhibiting the synthesis of inflammatory mediators such as NO, iNOS, and TNF-α in RAW264.7 macrophage cells stimulated by lipopolysaccharide (LPS). RAW264.7 cells were used to evaluate the inhibitory activity of test compounds on the production of inflammatory mediators NO, iNOS, and TNF-α. Research parameters included cell viability testing with MTS, colorimetric test to determine the concentration of nitric oxide (NO), ELISA test to measure protein levels of the iNOS and TNF-α. P. feei root extract at concentrations of 10, 50, 100, and 150 µg/mL inhibited the production of inflammatory mediators with the best activity in inhibiting NO and iNOS with IC50 values of 87.22 and 99.99 µg/mL, respectively. This study shows that P. feei root extract has anti-inflammatory activity through inhibiting the production of NO, iNOS and TNF-α mediators in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 macrophage cells.
