Abstract

Media komik saat ini sudah sangat populer di kalangan mahasiswa dan penggunaannya dikemas dengan cara menarik yaitu dengan menggunakan gambar dan kata-kata yang mendukung. Penelitian ini fokus pada penggunaan keterampilan menulis dalam bentuk komik, terutama bagi pemelajar BIPA yaitu pemelajar asal Vietnam yang sedang menempuh studi di University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH), Ho Chi Minh City. Desain dalam penelitian ini adalah kualitatif. Dari 17 pemelajar BIPA USSH, ada 13 pemelajar (70%) menyatakan bahwa media Cartoon Story Maker sangat menarik untuk digunakan dalam proses pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia di kelas. Kesulitan yang mereka hadapi tentunya masih dalam kendala penggunaan bahasa Indonesia (47.4%), seperti ejaan dan kurangnya kosakata untuk membuat kalimat maupun percakapan. Mahasiswa USSH rata-rata membutuhkan waktu kurang lebih 2-3 jam dalam membuat cerita dengan menggunakan Cartoon Story Maker. Komik dapat dijadikan sebagai media pendidikan yang membantu para pemelajar BIPA Vietnam terutama dalam keterampilan menulis untuk belajar lebih efektif lagi. Bukan hanya karena komik sebagai salah satu media pembelajaran, tetapi komik juga sudah dikenal baik oleh para pemelajar BIPA di Vietnam. Kata kunci: kesalahan berbahasa, penggunaan kalimat, komik. Abstract Comics are well-known among students in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. This paper aims to discuss and explore the usage of a comic book to construct sentences in the Indonesian language lessons for BIPA (learners in University of Social Sciencs and Humanities). A qualitative method is designed in this research for the outcomes. From 17 students who joined the BIPA class, there were thirteen students (70%) who stated that Cartoon Story Maker is very interactive to be used in the teaching learning Indonesian language in the class. Another difficulty that they face is mostly the use of Indonesian language (47.4 %), such as: spelling and lack of vocabulary in making sentences and conversations. It took approximately 2-3 hours to create a story using Cartoon Story Maker. Comics can generate ideas for BIPA students in Vietnam in learning the Indonesian language in a fun and effective manner, especially in writing skills. Since a comic book is full of illustrations, it enhances the undergraduate students’ understanding immediately and they are able to produce sentences with minimal help from the lecturer. Therefore, it is hoped that comics can be an edutainment tool in promoting writing in the classroom. Keywords: language error, usage of sentences, comics

Abstract

Peguasaan dan pemanfaatan teknologi untuk menunjang keberhasilan pembelajaran sudah menjadi keharusan dan tuntutan di era Revolusi Industri 4.0, terlebih di masa pandemi COVID-19. Guru sebagai garda terdepan untuk kemajuan pendidikan dengan demikian harus membekali diri dengan teknologi pembelajaran berupa Sistem Manajemen Pembelajaran atau Learning Management System (LMS) seperti Google Classroom, Edmodo, Canvas, Telegram dan lain sebagainya. Oleh karena itu, artikel ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan tentang pembekalan penggunaan Telegram Quiz Bot sebagai sarana pembelaran materi Bahasa Inggris, khususnya materi menyimak. Pembekalan diberikan kepada para guru tingkat SMA baik Negeri maupun Swasta yang tergabung dalam Musyawarah Guru Mata Pelajaran (MGMP) Bahasa Inggris di wilayah Surabaya. Quiz bot menjadi salah satu pilihan menarik bagi guru untuk mempermudah KBM secara daring serta meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran di masa pandemi. Hal itu karena Quiz bot memiliki beberapa manfaat lebih sebagai media pembelajaran materi menyimak yakni menyediakan sarana pembuatan soal pilihan ganda, fitur poling, deskripsi kuis, teks dan gambar, serta yang paling penting adalah audio. Selain itu, quiz bot mudah digunakan dan tersedia failitas audit di dalamnya.

Abstract

ABSTRACT English is a globally spoken language crucially taught at all educational levels in Indonesia. Despite its significance, many students struggle due to inadequate proficiency and practice, potentially dampening their motivation. Social media platforms like TikTok offer a promising avenue for language acquisition, hosting diverse educational content, including English learning videos. This study identifies TikTok English influencers as educational tools for students, exploring how these influencers enhance English proficiency among EFL students at Universitas PGRI Adi Buana Surabaya. Using qualitative descriptive research, the study delved into EFL students' perspectives through interviews, documentation, and observations. The findings indicated a positive view among students regarding TikTok influencer accounts as effective learning media. Consequently, the study concludes that leveraging TikTok influencer accounts can significantly improve students' English language skills, underscoring TikTok's potential as a valuable educational resource in language learning contexts. Kata kunci: English learning influencers, TikTok, EFL students.

Abstract

The implementation of the Merdeka curriculum is a challenge for educators, especially for English teacher at the Vocational High School (SMK) level. This article describes strategies for preparing learning tools for Merdeka Curriculum 2022 for English Vocational High School subjects in the City of Surabaya for teachers who are the members of the English Subject Teacher Conference (MGMP) in the Surabaya area. The main goal is to provide material on how vocational school teachers should not only be able to understand the Merdeka Curriculum 2022 well, but also be able to create mind map English teaching and learning process. This article uses a qualitative descriptive method with the implementation method in the form of technical guidance. Data were obtained from observations during the implementation of training activities, technical guidance and mind map documents that were made and collected by teachers as participants. This training is also a medium for increasing the ability of 40 participating teachers in making learning tools. The teachers have shown success in making mind map and administration of learning tools properly according to their expertise and professionalism. However, in the future, improvements must be made continuously because the world of education is a world of endless learning.

Abstract

This descriptive qualitative study examined the incorporation of Artificial Intelligence into EFL Classrooms, concentrating on its impact on thirty fifth-semester students in a Research Methodology Course within an English Language Education Department. Data were collected through interviews and semi-structured questionnaires and analyzed using thematic analysis. The study indicated that the students predominantly possessed favorable attitudes toward AI in the educational process. They indicated that AI enhanced their language acquisition by delivering tailored feedback, presenting stimulating and interactive learning tasks, and allowing adaptable study options. Nonetheless, apprehensions were expressed regarding AI’s capability to supplant educators, monitor students’ development, and its accuracy and reliability. The study illustrated how AI might assist students came up with ideas, locating references, and improving the caliber of research projects. AI technologies could assist teachers in identifying and rectifying student errors, tracking progress, and accelerating the evaluation process, thereby conserving time during grading. These results highlight the significance of balancing AI use with human education to alleviate students' concerns. Future research may examine the efficacy of AI in assisting students with final projects, research proposals, publications, data analysis, and academic writing.

Abstract

This research purposes at exploring In-Service Teacher’s Perception on the use of English Children’s Song to Enhance Vocabulary for Early Childhood. This study uses qualitative method with descriptive approach. The data in this study are observation, interview and documentation. The source data came from two teachers in different school, SDN K and SDN S already be interviewed. The data were analyzed by using thematic. This study conveys three things result from two teachers’ perception. The first, the characteristic of the song in English learning process for children. Perception of two teachers almost have same perception of characteristic of the song. To teach songs to children, songs must be adapted to the age of the child, songs that are happy, the words or sentences are not too long, and songs that contain children's lives. The second, English song can enhance vocabulary for children. Through the songs, children are easier to memorize and understand vocabulary, and it helps students to pronounce correctly. The third, English song can memorize vocabulary easily. Translating Indonesian children's songs into English can be a valuable instrument for improving vocabulary in a fun and engaging way.

Abstract

Javanese and Chinese-Indonesian ethnics are the majority and minority ethnic in Indonesia. Lots of difference are always found in their social environment including education. Teachers will face difficulties if they don’t understand well how to engage with multicultural students. Therefore, both ethnics require intercultural competence which is the composite of knowledge, attitude, skill and understanding adjusted through intercultural activities. This research aims at exploring the challenges of EFL teachers’ experiences with Javanese ethnicity on Chinese-Indonesian students in English Language Teaching. This study uses qualitative method with narrative approach. The data in this study are statements from interview session which is done by two EFL teachers from Javanese as subjects of data source. Then, the data are analysed by thematic. This study delivers three challenges as the result. First challenge comes from rich Chinese-Indonesian family. Secondly, split of mother language becomes a challenge. The last challenge is high work ethic from Chinese-Indonesian people.
