Abstract

Treatment technology of sea water into freshwater is known as desalination. An effective and economical desalination technique is desalination with evaporation. Thisstudy aims to determine the effect of roofing materials on the amount of freshwater produced. The study was conducted using a miniature evaporative tub that had a rooflike shape. Evaporative tubs dimension was 1m x 1m x 0.02m of laminated wood material. 20 liters of brackish water was pumped into the tub. Water in the tub was then closed using a roof designed like a roof made of fiberglass and polycarbonate. Brackish water was left in contact with the sunlight for 24 hours. As a result of heat transfer from sunlight to evaporation tub, brackish water experienced evaporation. The steam moved upward and was captured by the roof wall then condensated resulting in fresh water. The conclusion obtained was a miniature roof of evaporative desalination using fiberglass material obtained 427 ml of fresh water while using polycarbonate material obtained 136 ml fresh water. Keywords: Roof, Desalination, Evaporation.

Abstract

Pipes in the oil and gas industry use carbon steel which contains a corrosive fluid with fluctuating acidity. This condition causes the corrosion resistance of the pipe to decrease so that other materials that are more resistant to corrosive conditions are needed, for example Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP). FRP is a composite material made of resin which is then formed into pipes. In this study, trials were carried out on polyester resin, silicon rubber resin and epoxy resin to determine the value of their corrosion rate. The level of resistance of a material to corrosion generally has a corrosion rate value between 0.025 - 5.08 mmpy. The method used is the immersion test of the specimen using the ASTM G31 - 72 standard. The results obtained from this experiment are that polyester has the lowest corrosion rate than epoxy and silicon rubber and polyester resin with a fiber composition of 40% and fiber position 40° has a corrosion rate of 0.566 mmpy so that it meets the level of resistance of a material to corrosion.

Abstract

Non-metal workshops is a placed used in the manufacture of wooden ships from the beginning to the final stages such as painting ships and sanding. Non-metal workshops use chemicals that are included in the Hazardous and Toxic Materials (B3) class. Safe storage of B3 is not available because no previous classification was carried out. Therefore, it is necessary to classify it using the Hazmatt Tool and design for safe storage. The conclusion obtained is that B3 in non-metal workshops is compatible, meaning that it can be stored in one cupboard and one room. B3 in non-metal workshops includes hazard class 5.2 organic peroxide, class 3 flammable liquid, class 4.1 flammable solid and recommended storage cabinets. B3 uses stainless steel material with a finishing coating of epoxy resin, acid & chemical resistant (resisting acid, heat, water) and if stored in a drum, you must use a pallet with a length of 135 cm and a width of 135 cm, so 1 pallet can accommodate 6 drums of polyester resin.

Abstract

The gas industry generally uses TEG (Triethylene Glycol) to extract the water content in natural gas. TEG that has been used can be reused by means of regeneration. . This process has a side product, namely water vapor. The water vapor produced from the regeneration process can be used for sanitation purposes by changing the phase to liquid (water). Water produced from regeneration must go through the stages of wastewater treatment before being used because it contains impurities. One of the stages of wastewater treatment is settling which includes flocculation and coagulation. The sedimentation process is one of the sources of danger in wastewater treatment. Sources of danger in the deposition process can come from added chemicals, mixing processes that occur due to reactions between chemicals and the use of agitators which, if not appropriate, can cause process failure or danger to workers. Hazard identification techniques are needed in the deposition process to prevent process failures or work accidents. In this research, hazard identification was carried out using HAZOPs. The risk assessment of the settling unit in the gas industry wastewater treatment plant shows that there are 2 medium risks and 2 low risks

Abstract

Politeknik Perkapalan Negeri Surabaya (PPNS) is a vocational training institution that focuses on shipping and marine affairs. Through its education and training programs, PPNS provides in-depth knowledge of transportation engineering, including welding techniques. Welding plays an essential role in connecting and strengthening ship structures in the marine industry. However, welding can lead to the risk of occupational musculoskeletal disorders. This research describes the ergonomical hazards that may arise in PPNS welding operations. The causes of those are repetitive hand and arm movements and poor posture. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to identify occupational musculoskeletal hazards in the PPNS work environment and provide a basis for changes in workplace design to reduce these risks. The purpose of this study is to determine the possible risk of ergonomics by using GOTRAK and RULA for students who perform welding operations in the PPNS welding workshop through work practice. The research shown that the final score of RULA is 7 (high risk), which means it needs to be redesign.
