Abstract

The Hanikit tradition significantly influences the social, cultural, and religious life of the Atone Pah Meto community in South Central Timor, East Nusa Tenggara. Through rituals like Futus, it serves as an expression of gratitude to God and a key part of the local cultural identity. This study explores the theological aspects of the Hanikit tradition, focusing on its alignment with biblical teachings. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that while the tradition reflects biblical values, such as reverence for God, certain elements of the Futus ritual require critical review to align with Christian faith. The study concludes that the Hanikit tradition can be contextualized within the Christian framework by removing incompatible elements, preserving its role as a cultural expression that strengthens faith.

Abstract

The earthquake that struck Palu on 28 September 2018 was one of the biggest natural disasters in Indonesia, causing devastating impacts, both in terms of casualties and material losses. But behind the tragedy, many saw God's providence, which is God's intervention that is not seen directly but is full of meaning and wisdom. This research aims to examine and reflect on how God's providence was seen in the Palu earthquake, both in terms of finding the meaning behind the event. The method used is a qualitative approach with phenomenological analysis of the experiences and reflections of affected communities. The results showed that although disasters brought suffering, many people felt the presence of God who provided protection, strength and recovery through the events that occurred after the earthquake. The research also highlighted the importance of awareness of God's greatness and sovereignty in the face of natural disasters and how it strengthens the relationship between humans and God, as well as between each other.

Abstract

This article discusses the concept of “convenant” in the Old Testament as the main framework for the relationship between God and His people. In Hebrew, convenant is called berith, and in Greek, diatheke, which indicates that a convenant is not only a legal bond, but also a reflection of God’s love and faithfulness to mankind. These convenants incolve several figures, including Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and David, who share a common thread og God’s faithfulness in carrying out His plan of salvation for His people. Each convenant highlights various theological aspects, namely creation, salvation, elction, law, and kingdom. Thus, this article helps readers see that all these conevnants are fulfilles in Jesus Christ through the new convenant, where God’s law is no longer written on stone, but in the hearts of men. This study affirms that the convenant is the main foundation of biblical theology, which shows the relationship between God’s grace and man’s responsibility to live in obedience.
