Abstract

Abstract Learning about pronunciation is also learning about stress and intonation. They are aspects of suprasegmental. This research is conducted for the students of English Comprehension Program at Kresna English Institute who have learned about pronunciation in speech. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study design because this research describes a setting, an object, or a particular event in detail and depth. The results of this research are: there are still many errors made by English Comprehension program students, especially in the pronunciation program out of a total of 10 students there are many misplaced that vary in each student and also 4 out of 10 students give an increased intonation of some words in sentences or even no intonation made by students or in this case students use flat intonation, thus creating the wrong pattern of contour intonation; and 2) that factors are involved in the production of English suprasegmental features by the students, one of which is the mother tongue of each student who is different, researchers also found that the influencing factor is the awareness of the students in learning this comes from within each student, and researchers also find as the third factor, namely the surrounding environment of students who can form a habit in terms of socializing and communicating; and 3) the method carried out by the teacher seems to be able to improve the ability of students both in terms of pronouncing their word stress and in terms of intonation imitating videos and examples given by the teacher.

Abstract

The qualitative research aimed to observe Project-Based Learning (PjBL) implementation in writing courses viewed from the project types and the teaching-learning activities. Several activities in project-based learning implementation could be modified to meet various students’ needs, unexceptionally in the same subject. The various patterns of PjBL often resulted in the bias of its implementation among teachers who wanted to conduct this teaching model. The participants were the lecturers who taught the Professional Writing course in the fourth semester. Data were collected using observation of classroom activities, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The collected data were analyzed using thematic analysis, emphasizing identifying, analyzing, and interpreting patterns of meaning within qualitative data. The findings show that the project types are different in the form of the final output: business plans and video essays. The other findings find that there is a variety of teaching-learning activities, but they have identical project-based learning patterns, namely (a) preparation, (b) planning, (c) creating a project, (d) monitoring and revising, and (e) evaluation. PjBL provides some advantages for students. Thus, it is suggested that all EFL (English as a Foreign Language) lecturers implement those five project-based learning patterns in their classes.

Abstract

This study analyzed students’ academic writing projects using thematic progression analysis. The investigation aimed to identify the thematic progression development patterns commonly used in students’ writing projects and to understand how these patterns relate to overall writing quality. Using the qualitative method, this study described the analysis of student’s writing projects from the thematic progression point of view. The data of the study were six writing projects, which were analyzed and categorized into some patterns so that the level of coherence could be seen. As the result, the data of writing projects showed that they used three dominant patterns, namely reiteration, multiple, and zig-zag. The second discovery found that all of the academic papers were categorized as less coherent, indicating that the respondent often introduced new themes in the middle of paragraphs, disrupting the flow of ideas and making it difficult for readers to follow the main argument. After conducting the research, researchers suggested that lecturers should strengthen students’ ability to develop coherent paragraphs by providing explicit instruction on thematic progression patterns, encouraging students to practice various patterns, and providing feedback on the coherence of their writing.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of concentrations of Paklobutrazol and SP-36 fertilizer on the growth of peanut plants (Arachis hypogaea L.). This research was carried out in October 2023 – January 2024 at the Dsn Baban Barat Land in Blega Bangkalan, East Java. This research is a factorial experiment which was prepared using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 3 replications. The first factor is the provision of Paklobutrazol ZPT and the second factor is using SP-36 fertilizer Factor I: Paclobutrazol (P) concentration which consists of 4 levels: P0 = 0 ppm, P1 = 100 ppm, P2 = 200 ppm, P3 = 300 ppm and Fakor II = SP-36 fertilizer dose consisting of 3 levels: S0 = 150 kg/ha, S1 = 200 kg/ha, S2 = 250 kg/ha. The parameters observed were plant height, number of leaves (strands), age at flower emergence, number of pods planted, number of filled and empty pods, weight of pods planted, weight of seeds planted. The research results showed that the Paklobutrazol concentration treatment gave a positive response to the specified parameters, including plant height, number of leaves (strands), age at flower emergence, number of pods planted, number of filled and empty pods, weight of pods planted, weight of seeds planted. The highest average yield of pod weight per plant was in the P1 concentration treatment, namely 100 ppm (33.78 gr). The Paklobutrazol concentration treatment also produced a very significant effect on seed weight per plant. The highest was in the P1 concentration treatment, namely 100 ppm 28.50 gr. The SP-36 fertilizer dose treatment had a significant effect on the number of pods, the weight of the pods planted and the weight of the seeds planted. However, the parameters of plant height, number of leaves (strands), age at flower emergence, number of filled and empty pods, had no real influence. The results of the combined data analysis from both gave a positive response to observations of the number of pods, the weight of the pods planted and the weight of the seeds planted.
