Abstract

Cigarette smoke can damage the fat layer of the tear film lperoxidation. Dry eye syndromeis a cluster of disorders caused by an imbalance between production and excretionof tears, causing symptoms of discomfort in the eye. This study aims to related riskfactors smoke of dry eye syndrome. Analytic observational with cross sectional design,population of all visitors, officers and employees KAI Poncol station Semarang. Sampleof 60 respondents who meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data about dry eye syndrome are examined using Schirmer I test, data on smoking were taken using a checklist.The data obtained were analyzed using chi-square test. Results of the respondentswho smoke and have dry eye syndrome was higher (80.6%) compared with non-smokers(25.0%). The results chi-square test p=0.000 (p<0.05), PR = 3.222 (95%CI:1.582-6.562).Smoke who risk 3.222 times higher chance of developing dry eye syndrome comparedwith do not smoke.

Abstract

Edema kornea merupakan peradangan stroma yang disebabkan oleh kehilangan sel endotel dan biasanya merupakan komplikasi pasca operasi katarak. Kondisi ini juga dapat terjadi pada lansia dimana semakin tua seseorang, maka semakin menurun fungsi dari sel endotel kornea yang dapat mempengaruhi terjadinya edema. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan usia dengan kejadian edema kornea pasca operasi fakoemulsifikasi di Sultan Agung Eye Center (SEC). terdiri dari latar belakang, masalah utama, dan tujuan penelitian. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan desain analitik observasional dengan rancangan cross- sectional. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah pasein katarak senilis imatur yang menjalani operasi fakoemulsifikasi sedangkan untuk populasi terjangkau adalah pasien laki-laki yang mengalami kondisi sama namun berada di tahun 2022-2023. Sampel dalam penelitian ini ditentukan dengan menggunakan rumus Lemeshow sehingga didapatkan sebanyak 37 orang pasien katarak yang menjalani operasi fakoemulsifikasi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa mayoritas rata-rata usia pasien yang mengalami edema kornea di SEC adalah diatas 60 tahun (58,1%) dan pasien yang mengalami edema kornea pasca operasi fakoemulsifikasi terdapat 39 (21,98%) dari total jenis kelamin yang mengalami edema kornea. Uji bivariat dengan menggunakan uji chi square menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan antara usia dengan kejadian adema kornea pasca operasi fakoemulsifikasi dengan tingkat signifikansi 0,002 (p < 0,05). Berdasarkan penelitian ini terdapat hubungan usia dengan kejadian edema kornea pasca operasi fakoemulsifikasi di Sultan Agung Eye Center (SEC) RSI Sultan Agung Semarang.

Abstract

Surgically induced astigmatism (SIA) is a common phacoemulsification procedure for senile cataracts. The size, location, and incision type significantly influence the SIA degree. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of a superior incision on astigmatism levels in patients both before and after phacoemulsification for senile cataracts. This retrospective analytical observational study utilized a cohort at Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital, Semarang, Indonesia, between November 2023 and May 2024. The accessible population consisted of patients treated during the study period. A total of 65 eyes from patients who underwent phacoemulsification with a superior incision were included in the study. Twenty-five patients (38.5%) exhibited against-the-rule (ATR) astigmatism before the surgical procedure, which decreased to 16 patients (24.6%) following surgery. In contrast, after phacoemulsification with a superior incision, the number of patients with with-the-rule (WTR) astigmatism increased from 61.5% to 75.4%. The astigmatism value before phacoemulsification with a superior incision was 1.274±1.02, while the value was 0.945±1,02 afterwards. The Wilcoxon Test revealed a significant difference (p<0.05) in the mean of astigmatism values before and after the procedure with a superior incision, indicating the surgical effect on reducing astigmatism. This study confirms that phacoemulsification using a superior incision significantly reduces postoperative astigmatism, particularly in patients with WTR astigmatism. Combining small incisions and sutureless techniques enhances corneal stability, accelerates healing, and improves surgical outcomes.
