Abstract

Q fever is a zoonotic disease caused by Coxiella burnetii, a species of bacteria that is distributed globally. Ruminant especially sheep and goats may play an important role in the transmission of the disease to human. The research of seroprevalence of Q fever in sheep and goats was carried out from August 2006 to March 2007 in West Java area. A total of 138 sera were collected; 69 sera from sheep and 69 sera from goats. The indirect immunoflourescent antibody test was used to determine the seroprevalence of Q fever. The seropositive based on the dilution of serum starting from 1 : 16. Seropositive were observed in 22 samples (31.88%) of sheep and 14 samples (20.28%) of goats. The highest titer of 1 : 128 was observed in 3 pregnant sheep. The results of the present study suggested that Q fever was endemic in West Java area. Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah menentukan efek farmakologis propolis dan nanopropolis untuk pengobatan penyakit hati pada tikus betina yang diinduksi senyawa karsinogenik 7,12 - dimetilbenz(α)antasena (DMBA). Penelitian dilakukan dengan mengamati histopatologi dan makroskopik hati pada 28 ekor tikus betina galur Sprague - Dawley. Tikus percobaan dibagi menjadi 7 kelompok perlakuan dengan 6 kelompok yang diinduksi DMBA (Kelompok I- VI ) dan 1 kelompok sebagai kontrol normal. Kelompok I sebagai kontrolnegatif diberi 1 ml NaCl secara injeksi intraperitoneal (ip). Kelompok II - IV diberinanopropolis 8; 32 dan 56 ppm ip. Kelompok V diberi ekstrak ethanol propolis 233 ppm ip,kelompok VI sebagai kontrol positif diberikan doxorubixin ip dan kelompok VII sebagaikontrol normal diberi penyediaan akuades. DMBA diinduksi selama 11 minggu danpengobatan dilakukan 15 minggu. Setiap minggu tikus ditimbang bobotnya dan diperiksaterhadap inisiasi tumor. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak etanol propolis 233 ppmdan nanopropolis konsentrasi 32 dan 56 ppm dapat mempertahankan kondisi optimal hatitikus. Efeknya adalah setara dengan kontrol normal.

Abstract

This research aimed at determining of the effects of the induction of paracetamoland kopyor coconut on the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and pathologicanatomy of rat’s liver. Previous research shows that paracetamol caused negative effect to the body while kopyor coconut has the ability to improve human health, related to its capacity to prevent oxidative damage of human body. In this research, the positive effect of kopyor is approached through measurement of body weight and the activity of the total SOD enzyme of animals tested, which are induced by paracetamol and fed with kopyor. Rat’s administered with temulawak were positive control. The result showed that paracetamol treatment using toxic dose was found to reduce body weight of tested animals. Meanwhile, both kopyor and temulawak supplements were able to counter the negative effect of paracetamol, indicated by the increase in the body weight of tested animals. Other results showed that treatments with temulawak and 5 times-dose of kopyor supplement demonstrated a significantly high total SOD activity in the liver as compared to negative control. Furthermore, pathologic observation of the tested animals’ liver showed that 5 time-dose of kopyor treatment was confirmed to improve the recovery of the liver caused by negative effect of paracetamol, better than the negative control.Key words: kopyor coconut, superoxide dismutase, free radical, pathologic

Abstract

BackgroundPulmonary fibrosis is often found in infectious diseases and chemical exposure in the work environment. Antifibrotic effects can befibropreventive and fibrolysis. Bleomycin can cause inflammation and pulmonary fibrosis. Catechin is proven can repair liverdamages due to alcohol induction. The aim of this study is to examine the effect of antifibrotic green tea catechin on reducing thearea of rat lung fibrotic.MethodsThis research was carried out in vivo experimentally in the Laboratory Animal Management Unit at Faculty of Veterinary MedicineIPB in 4 groups of rat experiments, consisting of 3 rats in the negative control group, 3 rats in the positive control group, 3 rats in thegroup of rats given bleomycin on the 8th day and 28thwith green tea extract every day from day 0 to 49 days (fibropreventive), 3groups of rats given bleomycin days 0 and 21 with green tea extract every day from day 15 to 49 (fibrolysis). Histopathologicalexamination was performe for all groups of rats.ResultsThis study showed that administration of green tea extract in fibropreventive groups and fibrolysis groups could reduce the fibrosisarea in rat lungs based on Aschroft's modified scale.ConclusionBased on the results of this study it was found that the anti-fibrotic activity of green tea extract was proven to be able to suppressthe development of pulmonary fibrosis both by fibropreventive and fibrolysis

Abstract

This study aims to describe the character's hard work on the formation of students through the activities of the Hizbul Wathan (HW) at SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Sukoharjo. This type of research is a qualitative single case study with strategy. Data sources the study consisted of informants, places and events, as well as documents. Using data collection techniques interviews, observation, documentation, and Forum Group Discussion (FGD). The validity of the data using triangulation techniques, sources, and researchers. Data analysis using interactive models, Miles and Huberman.The results showed that the activities of the Hizbul Wathan in SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Sukoharjo was made for the formation of character means hard work on students. The formation of the character's hard work reflected in the skills that must be mastered students such as line-marching, playing, sports first aid kits, Trommel, spirituality, to the camp. Hard work character's was also established through the promise and law Wizard HW. The promise of Pandu pronounced voluntarily by members when appointed to be a member of the initial commitment is for committing yourself in settling and keeping our promises. While the legislation is a provision that moral Pandu made a habit of behaving yourself in and behave as citizens berakhlaq noble.

Abstract

Angkak (red yeast rice), bahan pangan fermentasi beras oleh kapang Monascus purpureus dan memiliki beberapa senyawa metabolit bersifat antioksidan.  Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis potensi ekstrak air angkak dalam mencegah peroksidasi lipid di dalam serum dan organ hati tikus.  Sprague Dawley yang diinduksi propiltiourasil dan diet tinggi lemak. Tikus sebanyak 25 ekor dibagi menjadi lima kelompok [normal, kontrol positif, kontrol negatif, induksi air angkak 50 mg/kg (kelompok A1), dan 100 mg/kg (kelompok A2)]. Parameter uji yang diamati adalah konsentrasi malonaldehid (MDA) serum darah dan hati, aktivitas enzim aminotransferase serum, dan gambaran mikroskopik hati. Tikus dengan induksi air angkak 100 mg/kg menunjukkan penghambatan peningkatan konsentrasi MDA pada serum dan hati serta aktivitas AST signifikan terhadap kelompok kontrol negatif. Histopatologi hati kelompok yang induksi ekstrak air angkak menunjukkan adanya perbaikan jaringan yang secara kualitatif ditandai dengan sel hepatosit utuh yang diwarnai oleh pewarna Hematoksilin-eosin, susunan sel rapat dan berjajar secara radial. Induksi 100 mg/kg masih menunjukkan perbesaran vakuola atau butiran lipid yang berwarna putih yang menjadi penanda degenerasi lemak.

Abstract

Q fever merupakan penyakit zoonosis yang disebabkan oleh bakteri gram negatif Coxiella burnetii dan terdistribusi luas di seluruh dunia. Gejala klinis pada hewan ternak bersifat tidak konsisten dan tidak spesifik. Metode imunohistokimia telah digunakan untuk mendiagnosis kasus Q fever pada hewan ternak. Antibodi yang digunakan untuk metode imunohistokimia masih tergolong mahal dan harus diimpor dari negara lain sehingga produksi antibodi menjadi peluang. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memproduksi antibodi poliklonal anti-C.burnetii dan mengkarakterisasi antibodi tersebut untuk mendeteksi antigen pada organ limpa, paru-paru, dan hati sapi dari Rumah Potong Hewan (RPH) di Medan yang sebelumnya telah dikonfirmasi positif C.burnetii. C. burnetii strain Nine Mile (NM) dan Complete Freund’s Adjuvant (CFA) digunakan untuk menginduksi antibodi pada dua ekor kelinci New Zealand White (NZW) jantan berumur 10-16 minggu. Boosting dilakukan menggunakan immunogen yang sama dengan Incomplete Freund’s Adjuvant (IFA) pada hari ke-14 pascainduksi. Pemanenan serum dilakukan pada hari ke- 24 pascainduksi. Purifikasi serum dilakukan menggunakan dua tahapan, yaitu presipitasi dengan ammonium sulfat saturasi 35% dan filtrasi gel dengan matriks Sephadex G-75. Konsentrasi akhir antibodi yang diperoleh adalah sebesar 11,3 μg μL-1. Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate Poly Acrylamide Gel Electrophoresis (SDS PAGE) dan Western Blot digunakan untuk mengkarakterisasi antibodi yang diproduksi. Selanjutnya dilakukan pewarnaan imunohistokimia menggunakan antibodi tersebut dan sebanyak 90% limpa, 100% paru, dan 100% hati bersifat imunoreaktif yang ditandai dengan warna kecokelatan pada sitoplasma makrofag. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa antibodi yang telah dipurifikasi tersebut mampu mendeteksi antigen C. burnetii pada ruminansia.

Abstract

The use of antibiotics as an Antimicrobial Growth Promoter (AGP) for livestock has been banned because antibiotic residues in livestock meat can trigger antibiotic resistance in consumers. Propolis is a natural source that has benefits like antioxidants, antiviral, antifungal, and antibiotic. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the addition of feed from the optimal composition of raw propolis to increasing broiler chickens' body weight of broiler chickens. This study used broiler chickens as experimental animals. The chicken were grouped into six groups consisting of two control groups and four treatment groups with different level concentrations of propolis (2, 4, 6, and 8 g/kg feed). After treatment for four weeks, supplementation of raw propolis in the feed had not been able to provide a positive effect on growth performance and protein levels that were not significantly different from controls. Group chickens with propolis additions 6 g/kg feed showed the best results compared to other treatment groups. The group had final weight values, food conversion ratio (FCR), and carcass weight in 1970.67 gram, 1.52, and 1349.83 gram, respectively. The highest percentage of the carcass was shown by group chicken with propolis additions 2 g/kg feed, which is equal to 74.46%. Raw propolis can reduce feed consumption but increase feed conversion ratio.

Abstract

The experiment was conducted to determine the relationship between conccidiosis vaccination and secondary infection of Clostridium perfringens type-A as a cause of Enteritis Necroticans in broiler chickens.The completely randomized design was used in this experiment. In this study 102 Arbor Acres strain unsexed chicken were randomly assigned to 8 treatment groups with 12 chicks each. Feed and water were given ad libitum.Treatment factors in this experiment were coccidiostat (Salinomycin 6%), coccidiosis vaccine and Clostridium perfringens type-A isolate, and their combinations.The anatomy pathology (AP) and histopathology (HP) figures of the chicken intestines were evaluated.Histopathology results indicated that the relationship between coccidiosis vaccination and secondary infection of Clostridium perfringens type-A was highly significant (p < 0.01) but the anatomy pathology figures showed that the relationship was not significant (p < 0.05).

Abstract

Telah ditemukan kasus inifeksi cacing saluran pencernaan pada ayam hutan hijau (Callus varius) yang diperiksa di Laboratorium Patologi Unggas, Fakultas Kedokteran Hewan lnstitut Pertanian Bogor, periode bulan Agustus 1992 - Januari 1993.Dari 62 ekor ayam hutan hijau yang mati, 26 ekor (41,93%) diantaranya positif terinfeksi cacing setelah dilakukan nekropsi. Dari 26 ekor ayam yang dinyatakan positif terinfeksi, 22 ekor terinfeksi oleh cacing pita (Cestoda), 3 ekor terinfeksi cacing gilik (Nematoda) dan 1 ekor ayam terinfeksi oleh kedua macam cacing tersebut.Hasil pemeriksaan terhadap parasit ini menunjukkan bahwa cacing pita yang menginfeksi ayam adalah Raillietina sp. dan cacing gilik yang ditemukan adalah Ascaridia galli.
