Abstract

In The Elementary Forms of Religious Life, Emile Durkheim sets forth a thought-provoking theory of religion. Drawing on his literature research on totemistic religions, notably those of the Aboriginal tribes of Central Australia, Durkheim argues that religion serves as the symbolic representation of society. The sacred is nothing but the representation of the collective power of the clan. Totemism is, thus, a deification of society. This theory does not lead Durkheim to discredit religion as merely a product of illusion, hallucination, failed science, linguistic confusion, and the like. Rather, he argues that the fact that religion has survived for centuries reveal that religion must have fulfilled certain societal need. The Elementary Forms of Religious Life seeks to demonstrate the integrative social function held by religion in traditional societies as the conscience collective that holds society together. This article is aimed at both highlighting the contribution of Durkheim's theory to the sociology of religion and showing the blindspots and weaknesses of his theory.

Abstract

This paper talks about the awareness of "I" and "Other" in law enforcement cases of corruption in Indonesia. This paper aims to analyze how awareness of "I" and "Other" in cases of law enforcement on corruption in Indonesia is considered to be fading which has an impact on attitudes of justice for both subjects. Corruption is a criminal act carried out by a handful or a group of people to enrich themselves by utilizing the means they have, such as position and power. The method used in this paper is qualitative research by means of a literature study sourced from the Relationality book coupled with the literature that supports the discussion of this paper. The results found in this paper are that law enforcement on corruption in Indonesia is considered weak and powerless. This is because human resources are not aware of the true meaning of "I-ness" so it makes other people or "Others" suffer. Lack of understanding about awareness of "I", in cases of law enforcement on corruption in Indonesia is the main reason why "Others" get discriminated against and injustice in their lives.

Abstract

Natural resources represent a commodity that is in high demand and is used to meet human needs. One of the natural resources that is in high demand is coal. The development of technologies such as trains, fuel and power plants requires the use of coal. In light of these developments, it is imperative that coal be managed in an environmentally responsible manner to prevent damage to the environment and avoid further environmental pollution. In the preceding one years ago, a case emerged that was brought to public attention. The case in question concerns the construction of a Steam Power Plant (PLTU) in North Kalimantan. The objective of this paper is to examine the case in question with reference to the perspectives set forth in Laudato Si and Baruch Spinoza's philosophy of pantheism. The issue originated with the opposition of various parties to the construction of the infrastructure. The rejection was based on the pretext of preserving the environment. Conversely, the government maintains that electricity supply is necessary for equitable development. Both parties' intentions are commendable and well founded. However, it is crucial to determine which objective is of greater importance and necessity. In light of these challenges, this paper's central inquiry is: What is the primary issue at the core of this controversy? How are the government's efforts to resolve it and the agreement with local residents progressing? This writing employs the literature method and pertinent literature sources. Furthermore, this writing aims to elucidate the necessity of environmental preservation in the context of Laudato Si and Spinoza's philosophy of pantheism regarding nature. Furthermore, the benefits of writing provide suggestions and solutions for the proper resolution of this problem. In light of the aforementioned considerations, the findings of this paper endeavor to integrate the principles of environmental impact assessment (AMDAL) and renewable energy development into a comprehensive framework for ensuring the long term sustainability of the ecosystem and the well being of the people of North Kalimantan. The discussion is structured around four key elements: First, A detailed account of the case in question. Second, A concise biographical sketch of Baruch Spinoza and an overview of his contributions to philosophical thought. Third, An examination of the fundamental principles that underpin the protection of the natural environment. Fourth, A comparative analysis of the principles espoused in Laudato Si and those articulated in Spinoza's pantheistic philosophy

Abstract

Here is the English translation of your text: This study aims to analyze a human trafficking case involving Timorese migrant workers in Malaysia using the human rights approach developed by Eleanor Roosevelt. This approach emphasizes the importance of protecting, respecting, and fulfilling the fundamental rights of every individual, particularly those in vulnerable positions. In this study, a qualitative research method is employed with a case study approach, which includes document analysis, in-depth interviews with stakeholders, and participatory observation of the conditions of the migrant workers. The research findings indicate that Timorese migrant workers often fall victim to various forms of exploitation, such as forced labor, inhumane working conditions, unfair wages, and minimal legal protection from both the sending and receiving countries. This situation reflects a serious violation of the fundamental principles of human rights. This study makes an important contribution to uncovering the ongoing dynamics of human trafficking in Southeast Asia, particularly targeting migrant labor groups. Furthermore, the findings provide several policy recommendations, including the need for stronger bilateral agreements between labor-sending and labor-receiving countries, increased oversight of recruitment agencies, and human rights education for prospective migrants. Thus, it is hoped that the protection of Timorese migrant workers can be significantly improved.
