Abstract

Abstract

This study investigates the effects of the First Spiritual Exercises (FSE) on mental well-being and Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) among credit union activists. Contributing to the growing intersection of spirituality and organizational psychology, the study offers empirical evidence on how structured spiritual practices shape workplace behavior. A quasi-experimental design was applied to 53 activists, with the intervention group drawn from Credit Union Kridha Rahardja and the control group from Credit Union Kasih Sejahtera. Pre- and post-test analyses revealed significant improvements in mental well-being and OCB following participation in the FSE. Furthermore, mental well-being was found to have a statistically significant influence on OCB scores. These findings affirm that spiritual exercises may serve not merely as private devotion but as strategic levers for fostering psychological resilience and pro-social behavior in organizations. Managers may consider integrating reflective spiritual practices as part of employee development initiatives to promote healthier, more engaged work cultures.

Abstract

This article urgently examines the pressing need for research on metaverse technology (MT) within the tourism and hospitality marketing (THMK) context in Indonesia. Despite its potential, the current state-of-art-of MT research in THMK remains underexplored and limited particularly within tourism and hospitality marketing landscape. Through a systematic literature review (SLR) using the PRISMA Protocol and focusing on ProQuest database articles from 2012-2022, this study vigorously assessed 313 articles narrowing down to 34 relevant ones. These articles were meticulously analyzed to unveil the current state of MT within THMK context for the past decade. The study findings revealed that the current state of art of MT Research in THMK is substantially increasing although there were relatively limited studies in hospitality setting with very narrow and limited range of theoretical and methodical perspectives. Six dimensions of MT in THMK were identified, namely big data analytics, 3-D virtual representation, and augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), smart, Internet of Things and blockchain technology. Using SLR provides an empirical foundation for understanding the current landscape of MT research in THMK within Indonesia, highlighting the need for further exploration and development. By addressing this urgent research gap, scholars and practitioners can unlock the full potential of MT in transforming THMK practices in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study examined the impact of doing The First Spiritual Exercises (FSE) on positive and negative attitudes toward God and mental health, as measured using the Attitudes toward God Scale (ATGS-9) and the Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Well-Being Scale (WEMWBS). Adopting a quasi-experimental research design involving 90 the FSE participants as the intervention group and 119 individuals who did not participate in the FSE as the control group, this study tested the hypotheses that doing the FSE increases Positive ATG scores, reduces Negative ATG scores, and increases Mental Health scores. The data analysis of pre-test and post-test of 164 participants (82 people from the LRP and non-LRP groups respectively), who took part fully in this study, which was conducted from 11 May to 7 June 2020, confirmed the hypotheses. Furthermore, the data shows that the FSE participation can explain 13.7% of the variability of the change in the combined score of Positive ATG, ATG Negative and Metal Health. This study provides empirical evidence on the impact of doing the Spiritual Exercises through a quantitative approach using an experimental design. In addition, this research contributes to the development of studies on spiritual practices by synergizing spiritual services, particularly the Spiritual Exercises, with research activities. It also shows that the ATGS-9 and WEMWBS scales are useful for measuring the impact of spiritual activities and services.
