Abstract

The Community Service Program at Halu Oleo University, titled "Training in Creative Writing Techniques and Final Assignment Paraphrasing Techniques for Students of the Communication Science, Mathematics, Archeology and Plant Protection Study Program," aims to improve students' ability to produce various scientific papers and the ability to paraphrase in this scientific work so that the similarity percentage in the Turnitin test meets the reasonableness threshold standard. For example, Communication Science students must revise their final thesis assignments that do not meet the graduation threshold before taking the final thesis exam, up to a maximum of three rounds of testing. Of course, this takes a long time if students are not equipped with writing and paraphrasing skills in order to avoid being detected as plagiarized. This will almost certainly have an impact on the number of scientific works produced by students under the supervision of lecturers, as well as the timeliness with which students complete their studies at Halu Oleo University. During this training, students learn how to brainstorm ideas and put them into creative writing, as well as how to create a platform for expressing emotions and thoughts. Aside from that, some students can come up with several interesting titles to use as themes for writing their thesis at the end of their study period. The technique of paraphrasing scientific writing provides special insight for students regarding the need for originality of ideas and writing produced so that it becomes work that meets the rules of scientific writing. It also provides additional knowledge about how the Turnitin application and its algorithm work in detecting the level of similarity of a piece of writing, so that this can be a trigger for students to prioritize scientific writing that has a level of similarity that meets writing standards.

Abstract

The Internal Community Service Program, titled Digital Literacy Training to Improve the Service Performance of Opaasi Village Officials in 2023, aims to increase Opaasi village officials' digital literacy understanding in order to create a digital-based government system. As a result, the service team provided training in the form of an introduction to the substance of a digital-based government system, as well as a Village Seminar on the importance of digital literacy and media on how to avoid fake news. This is done because the object of service still has limited awareness of digital literacy. Furthermore, as time passes, the quality of service to village communities must become easier and more effective. The service team uses media such as websites and power point presentations to communicate knowledge and ideals to village leaders through this training method. The team engages with partners in this service activity, notably Opaasi Village Government Officials. The outcomes of this service will be critical in preparing Opaasi community to become a digital community by 2024. The service team created a website, social media profiles, and e-mail to help the Opaasi village government communicate its policies to the community.

Abstract

Multimedia Flipbooks enable students to learn course materials visually, which can help with comprehension and memory. The multimedia flipbook format, which resembles a traditional printed book, adds interest and interactivity to information presentations. Digital flipbooks are accessible through digital devices such as laptops, tablets, and smartphones, allowing students to read and study materials at any time and from any location. Training in the use of multimedia flipbooks aims to improve students’ ability to innovate and be creative by leveraging digital technology. The community service method used in this training is to provide students with information on tips and tricks, as well as the stages of using multimedia flipbooks. The results of the multimedia flipbook training for Halu Oleo University students show that students can gain a comprehensive understanding of flipbooks in terms of their concept, features, and potential as a digital presentation format. Students can also differentiate flipbooks from other digital book formats and understand their benefits. Students can create a flipbook that combines text, images, videos, and animations. Students who complete this training are capable of creating interactive and responsive flipbooks using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Overall, flipbooks can improve students’ comprehension, learning efficiency, and engagement in the learning process. This will undoubtedly have a positive impact on student learning and how technology is used to address industry challenges in the future.

Abstract

Citizen journalism in the 2024 Regional Head Election in Wakatobi Regency is an interesting phenomenon as a form of public participation in the democratic process. With the development of digital technology, people no longer only act as consumers of information, but also as producers of political information through social media and digital platforms. This research aims to identify the role of citizen journalism in increasing public participation in the implementation of Regional Head Elections in Wakatobi Regency. This research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and content analysis of citizen journalism circulating during the 2024 Regional Head Election campaign period. The research subjects involved citizen journalism actors, active voters, and stakeholders. Data analysis techniques were carried out through data reduction. The results showed that citizen journalism contributed significantly to increasing transparency, political education and social control during the Wakatobi Regional Head Election. People were more active in voicing issues of violations, political discrimination, and mass mobilization through videos and social media posts. However, the main challenge remains low digital literacy and the risk of spreading disinformation. Synergy between professional journalists and citizen journalism is needed to ensure the accuracy and objectivity of information. With citizen journalism, the people of Wakatobi have shown a role transformation from passive voters to active actors in maintaining the integrity of the democratic process. This research recommends the need for increased media literacy capacity and multi-stakeholder synergy so that citizen journalism can become a tool for strengthening inclusive and responsible local democracy.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the transformation of citizen political participation in the era of social media dominance, highlighting the opportunities and challenges that arise. The Citizen 2.0 phenomenon shows a significant shift from conventional political participation to faster, more massive, and more participatory digital engagement. Social media has become a new democratic space that allows citizens to not only be consumers but also producers of political narratives. This study employs a descriptive-exploratory qualitative approach methods in Kendari City, focusing on the experiences of young, digitally active citizens. The research findings indicate that social media expands political participation access for marginalized groups and strengthens real-time citizen advocacy. However, disinformation, polarization, slacktivism, and digital inequality remain major challenges in achieving healthy digital political participation. This study proposes the need for a constructive model of digital political participation based on principles of modern public administration such as inclusivity, transparency, and responsiveness. These findings contribute to the development of literature on e-participation, digital citizenship, and smart governance, while also serving as a practical reference for governments in developing digital-based participatory policies.

Abstract

Kemajuan teknologi di era digital menuntut keterampilan literasi digital sebagai kompetensi penting bagi pelajar untuk mendukung proses belajar, mengembangkan kreativitas, serta mempersiapkan diri menghadapi persaingan kerja. SMAN 3 Konawe Selatan memiliki fasilitas laboratorium komputer dan jaringan internet yang memadai, namun kualitas sumber daya manusia dalam pemanfaatan perangkat digital masih terbatas. Tujuan program pengabdian ini yaitu untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan, keterampilan, dan kesadaran siswa mengenai pemanfaatan teknologi yang difokuskan pada pengenalan dan praktik pembuatan Curriculum Vitae (CV) dan cover book menggunakan aplikasi Canva. Metode pelaksanaan menggunakan pendekatan partisipatif melalui ceramah, diskusi, simulasi, praktik langsung, dan proyek kelompok. Hasil pelatihan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan signifikan pada pemahaman konsep literasi digital, keterampilan teknis desain berbasis aplikasi, dan sikap positif terhadap penggunaan teknologi secara produktif. Siswa mampu menghasilkan karya CV dan cover book yang layak digunakan untuk keperluan akademik maupun persiapan karier. Kesimpulan yang diperoleh bahwa pelatihan ini efektif meningkatkan keterampilan literasi digital siswa serta memberikan kontribusi nyata terhadap kualitas pembelajaran berbasis teknologi. Program ini juga membentuk sikap kreatif, kolaboratif, dan adaptif terhadap perkembangan teknologi.
