Abstract

This paper proposes the semantics of product functions in a private university in Indonesia. The so-called product of the university is the Vision and Mission that carries intended and aligned message to its target readers/customers. Therefore, this research aims at mapping the semantic profile of University’s Vision and Mission. Analysing this issue, qualitative-descriptive method was implemented to break-down the message of the product function. The results showed that the product clusters the message into general structure of the product, open word class clustering, and word clustering based on meaning association. The semantics then voluntarily specifies particular strategies based on its meaning association. Additionally, the findings suggested that the product function was discovered by analysing the descriptive words in the Vision and Missions. From this discovery, the product can then be mapped into its function class and type. This then specifies possible strategies implemented in “marketing” the product. From the result, it can be concluded that mapping out the message and strategy of the product can best aid universities in improving their language design in every product they have.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan menelisik sikap mahasiswa Program Studi Sastra Inggris Universitas Komputer Indonesia terhadap Program Pembelajaran Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM). Fokus penelitian diberikan pada kompetensi spesifik dari dampak implementasi Program Pembelajaran MBKM. Membongkar isu terkait dampak program ini, penelitian menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data berupa observasi, survei, dan wawancara mendalam diterapkan pada tahap pengumpulan data, sedangkan teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah deskriptif analitik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kompetensi mahasiswa meningkat secara bertahap setelah mengikuti program ini. Keterampilan dan kecakapan hidup dasar seperti sikap adaptif, kematangan emosional, dan keterampilan berkomunikasi merupakan keterampilan soft skills yang dikembangkan. Sementara itu, keterampilan hard skills ditandai peningkatan keterampilan performa berbahasa, keterampilan digital, dan kemampuan rekayasa digital. Hasil penelitian dapat dimanfaatkan institusi pendidikan, yakni sebagai bahan pertimbangan untuk membuat dan menentukan strategi pengembangan dan peningkatan kompetensi sehingga mampu menghasilkan lulusan kompetitif.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the binary opposition present in the characters of Wednesday and Enid in the Wednesday Addams series season 1: episode 1 and 4. This research finds the binary opposition between these characters and uncovers their meanings, drawing upon Levi Strauss’s theory of binary oppositions. The descriptive qualitative method is employed, and scenes and English subtitles from the Wednesday Addams series season 1: episodes 1 and 4, available on Netflix, are used as the data source. The research identifies four opposing mental states: darkness and lightness, taciturnity and talkativeness, rigid and flexible, and indifference and care. Wednesday Addams exhibits unique mental states compared to other characters, particularly Enid, her best friend. Each of these four opposing mental states carries meaning beyond their mental states. Abstract

In this study the authors analyzed the Compound Word in Internet Dating Terms. The author focuses on analyzing the merge of words from existing words to rise the new words/meanings or can also be referred as compounding. The data taken by the author are the words that exist in the term of internet dating by taking examples from cases in social media, namely Twitter. Examples of data cases taken by the author are calculated from March 31, 2020 - March 31, 2022. The method used in this study is descriptive analysis. According to Rakhmat (68), descriptive research method is a research method that only describes situations/events but also explain the data systematically. In researching the selected data, the writer classified the data based on the elements that make up words/expressions on internet dating by focusing on Endocentric and Exocentric Compound. From the analysis, it can be concluded that compound words in internet dating terms were formed mostly by free morphemes, most compound words were not compositional. Abstract

This research aims to analyze the psychological structure of the main character, Lily Bloom, in the novel It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover. This research discovered the character structures of the Id, Ego, and Superego in the main character, which produced the most dominant psychological structure based on Sigmund Freud's theory. The researcher used a qualitative descriptive method based on the novel's dialogue and English story descriptions. It Ends With Us was the primary data source in this research. This research identifies ten results that show that the id dominates Lily Bloom's character. Lily Bloom shows a psychological structure resulting from her past trauma, trauma caused by violence perpetrated by her father and husband. Abstract

The world is too complex to explain and deconstruct without a thorough objective, fair, and deep research. Simplification of meaning becomes the alternative to thorough research. Something would be easier to understand if people could make the meaning simple. It is easier to understand if a case that involve a man as a perpetrator and especially the woman as a victim is a case of patriarchy. But there are many factors to be considered in order to judge a problematical case. This is the case for the short story Storm by Mcknight Malmar, the story suggest that it was liberating for female to given up and left to seek a better love. It is a good solution if the lover or in this case the husband is an evil person with evil personality. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method analysis to deconstruct the myth of male dominated patriarchal tyranny in the story. Using the reader-response theory can be usefully integrated with narrative psychology by situating personal narratives at the top of an individual’s knowledge hierarchy. Abstract

This study is significant as it aims to discover the meaning behind the figurative language used in the poem “Menggapai Impian” by Ni Nengah Restari. Figurative language, which includes simile, metaphor, personification, hyperbole, alliteration, and metonymy, is used in the analysis as it is commonly found in literature. The data for this study was taken from an E-book named 'Goresan Pena (Antologi Puisi Pendidikan)' by Ni Nengah Restari, dkk 2020. The study reveals that hyperbole is the poem's most frequently used figurative language, followed by personification and metaphor, then Metonymy and Alliteration. By analyzing figurative language in the poem “Menggapai Impian” by Ni Nengah Restari, it enhances the reader’s appreciation and understanding of the poem’s depth and meaning of this poem Keywords: Figurative language, Poem, Ni Nengah Restari

Abstract

This study aims to classify the morphological types of shortening and explain their meaning. in Mobile Legends players within online community forums. The research methodology used qualitative methods and the data collected from Facebook Groups Mobile Legend: Bang Bang Official. This research used Schendl (2001) theories about five types of morphological shortening words, they are acronym, clipping, blends, contraction, and shortening. The research reveals that shortening serves multiple purposes in the gaming environment. They are primarily used to accelerate communication, thereby enhancing the efficiency of message delivery. Additionally, shortening creates a sense of belonging among players by fostering a shared linguistic culture. This study provides valuable insights into the dynamics of language within the online gaming context and explores how these shortening influence interactions among players. By understanding the role of morphological shortening, the research sheds light on how they enhance communication efficiency and build community cohesion in gaming environments. Abstract

This research is titled "Psychoanalysis of the Character's Anxiety Emotion in Script Inside Out 2," which aims to analyze the personality structure of the emotion character Anxiety in Riley's life. Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory is used to identify the personality structure by analyzing the id, ego, and superego. Through the qualitative descriptive method, the personality structure of the character Anxiety in the film ‘Inside Out 2’ was successfully identified. The research findings show that the character Anxiety is dominated by a balance between the ego and superego. Anxiety is identified not only as a mediator between the id and superego but also as an element that ensures Riley adheres to the established moral standards. The character Anxiety in this film represents the constant tension between instinctual drives, moral demands, and the reality that must be faced, which significantly influences its behavior and responses to the situations Riley encounters.
