Abstract

The government of Indonesia provides programs to make it easier for adolescents to access mental health services. Adolescents are very vulnerable to mental and emotional health disorders, but there is low coverage of mental health services in primary health care. This study uses the theory of health belief models to examine how adolescents perceive having access to mental health services. This study used a cross-sectional design for 55 unmarried adolescents (15-24 years old) in Yogyakarta with a total sampling technique. Most adolescents (83.6%) perceive many barriers to accessing mental health services, so their self-efficacy becomes low (53.7%). Nevertheless, they have cues to act reasonably well (58.2%). Adolescents who perceive barriers (p-value = 0.007) and cues to action (p-value = 0.031) have a significant relationship with the behaviour of accessing mental health services. Meanwhile, perceived susceptibility (p-value = 0.909), perceived severity (p-value = 0.420), perceived benefits (p-value = 0.980), and self-efficacy (p-value = 1,000) did not have a significant relationship. The findings demonstrated that adolescents have sound cues to action in accessing mental health services, but low self-efficacy is thought to be the barrier.

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between financial knowledge and attitudes towards finance with individual financial behavior within the framework of the Lacanian perspective. The research defines financial knowledge as the symbolic dimension of an individual's mind encompassing concepts of finance, investment, and debt management. Attitudes towards finance are described as the imaginative aspect of an individual's personality involving views, preferences, and emotions related to money and financial management. Utilizing a statistical analysis approach, the study uncovers a significant correlation between financial knowledge, attitudes towards finance, and financial behavior. However, the research outcomes must be interpreted cautiously due to potential confirmation bias and heuristic effects in data interpretation. Managerial implications of this study involve the development of financial education programs aimed at shaping prudent and responsible financial behavior.

Abstract

Background: There has been a steady rise in the number of teenagers who are reporting mental health issues. Empirical evidence confirms a significant increase in mental health services in Yogyakarta between 2018 and 2022. The efforts to prevent and control mental health issues are extensive and all-encompassing, with one approach being the early identification of mental health problems in teenagers. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to assess the mental health levels of teenagers during the COVID-19 epidemic. Methods: This study used a quantitative descriptive methodology, encompassing a sample of 64 adolescents residing in Warungboto Village, Yogyakarta City, aged between 15 and 24 years. The participants were chosen according to the prevalence of adolescents in the research area. The utilised instruments included the Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21) and the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10), which were subjected to descriptive processing. Results: 56% of participants identified as male, while 61% fell within the age bracket of 19-24 years. Furthermore, a significant majority (97%) of respondents actively pursued education beyond the secondary level. The DASS-21 assessment revealed a highly pronounced level of anxiety (26.6%), a typical level of depression (35.9%), and a moderate degree of stress (18.8%). In addition, the PSS-10 findings indicated that 59% of adolescents encountered stress. Conclusion: Adolescents are a very susceptible demographic to mental health issues, particularly anxiety. Regular and timely screenings are necessary to prevent the progression of severity, especially in mild or moderate conditions.
