Abstract

The purpose of this research were to describe the level of academic stress in the 1st year and the 2nd year of English Education students and to examine whether there is a significance difference of the academic stress between the 1st year and 2nd year of English Education Students. This research was a survey design on quantitative approach. The population of the research was the 1st year and the 2nd year of English Education students at UIN Suska Riau. By having simple random sampling, it has been selected 97 first-year students from a total population 125 students and 108 second-year students from a total population 146 students. To collect the data, the researcher used a questionnaire to know the level of academic stress in the 1st year and 2nd year of English Education students. The data were analyzed by Descriptive Statistic and Inferential Statistic (non-parametric) because the data were not normally distributed using Mann-Whitney U Test on the SPSS version 21.0 program. The result of the data analyze showed that the level of academic stress in the 1st year of English Education students was at a low category, with 50 students (51.5%) and the level of Academic Stress in the 2nd year of English Education Students was also at a low category, with 48 students (44.4%). It can be concluded that there was no a significance difference of the Academic Stress level between the 1st year and the 2nd year of English Education Students at UIN Suska Riau.

Abstract

When learning English students really need motivation, therefore this research focuses on the importance of motivation in English learning. This study also aims to investigate the motivation that exists in students when learning in English learning. The research method used is a descriptive method of quantitative analysis where data is analyzed using SPSS version 21 and Microsoft Excel. This research was conducted from November 9, 2022 to December 26, 2022. Data collection was carried out by giving students a questionnaire which aims to determine the level of students' motivation when learning English. Questionnaires were distributed to 71 students from grade seven as a sample. Determination of this sample is done by simple random sampling of 5 classes. The findings show that the level of students' motivation in english learning from is at a good level. Furthermore, the dominant aspect or indicator of students' perceptions of motivation in english learning for grade 7 at SMAN 1 Airtiris is indicator 2.

Abstract

This research aim to find out whether there is significant different between students’ speaking ability before using picture cued and after using picture cued at eighth grade students’ of Junior High School Muhammadiyah Tebing Tinggi. In this research the researcher used pre - experimental design one group pre-test and post-test. The population of this research was all of the students at class VIII Junior High School Muhammadiyah Tebing Tinggi. The sample for the research was took 15 students. The data analysis in this research is using t-test. In analyzing the data, the researcher will use paired sample t-test formula. The result of this research shown that the pre-test score calculated as 67% was at “Enough” level and the post-test score calculated as 67% was at “Good” level. The result calculation of the test shown that sig. (2-tailed) showed 0.000. Based on the data, if the value of sig. (2- tailed) is less than 0.05 Ha will be accepted. The researcher concludes that there is a significant different between students’ speaking ability before using picture cued and after using picture cued to improve students’ speaking ability at eighth grade students’ of Junior High School Muhammadiyah Tebing Tinggi.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effect of using animated English movies on students’ vocabulary mastery at MTsN 3 Kuansing. A pre-experimental design with one group pre-test and post-test was applied, involving 30 eighth-grade students. The research instrument was a vocabulary worksheet (LKPD) which assessed six indicators: grammar, meaning, synonyms, antonyms, affixes, and word structure. The findings revealed a significant improvement in students’ vocabulary mastery after the treatment using Dora the Explorer animated movie. The average pre-test score was 54.17, while the post-test average rose to 78.67. Paired Sample T-Test analysis showed a significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05), indicating that the use of animated English movies had a statistically significant effect on vocabulary mastery. This research confirms the effectiveness of using multimedia, especially animated films, in enhancing vocabulary acquisition in junior high school students.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the level of difficulty in the question items given to students in the Listening test. The Listening Test here is on the Listening Section of the English National Examination in two academic years, 2015/2016 and 2016/2017, focusing solely on investigating the difficult items and represented components of the declared items Listening Section in the National Exam of English in the academic year 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 on twelfth-grade students in SMA Negeri 1 Tambang. In this descriptive quantitative study, the writer took thirty students as a sample of 203 students to obtain difficult items of students in the Listening Section in the English National Examination. They are consisted of fifteen items for each academic year. The results of data analysis show that there are some items that are difficult for students. For Listening Section in English National Examination 2015/2016, there are three items that are declared difficult. the items are item 3, item 9 and item 11. And for Listening Section in English National Examination 2016/2017 shows six items that are declared difficult. They are item 2, item 8, item 9, item 11, item 13, item 15. Therefore, the Listening Section component in the English National Examination of 2015/2016 which is also difficult to do is component 1, component 3, and component 4. Moreover, the Listening Section in the English National Examination in 2016/2017 which is also difficult to do is component 1, component 3, component 4 and component 5.

Abstract

This research was conducted to know the average score of students‟ reading comprehensio before and after being taught by using Skimming Technique and to examine whether there is a significant effect of Skimming Technique on students‟ reading comprehension. This research was a pre-experimental design with quantitative approach. The population of the research was students of the eleventh grade at SMAN 2 Karimun. By having purposive sampling, the sample was class XI IPS 4 with a total of 30 students. The researcher used reading test in collecting the data. In data analysis, the researcher used non-parametric test. However, the data were interpreted by using Wilcoxon on the SPSS version 26.0 program. The result showed that the mean score of the students after being taught by using Skimming Technique (80.17) was higher than before being taught by using Skimming Technique (53.83). In conclusion, the use of Skimming Technique shows a significant effect on the students' reading comprehension at SMAN 2 Karimun.
