Abstract

This study aims to analyze the transformation and continuity of traditions at Puri Saren Agung Ubud as a response to social, cultural, and temporal dynamics. More than a symbol of traditional authority, the Puri functions as a center for spiritual and cultural activities in Balinese society. Using a qualitative approach with historiographical methods, data were collected through in-depth interviews and literature review. The findings reveal that traditional practices such as religious ceremonies and performing arts have shifted in function—from sacred rituals to public cultural attractions. However, the core values embedded in these traditions are still preserved and passed down through generations. This transformation is driven by two main factors: government policies promoting cultural tourism and the active involvement of the younger generation, who utilize digital platforms to preserve ancestral heritage. Preservation strategies include direct value transmission, the functional use of traditional spaces, and collaboration between royal family members and local communities. The study concludes that tradition at Puri Saren Agung remains rooted in local identity while demonstrating a high capacity for adaptation. The Puri successfully blends cultural preservation with innovation, serving as a compelling example of how traditional practices can endure and remain relevant in the modern era.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of zoning theory grounded in the Balinese philosophical concepts of Tri Hita Karana, Tri Mandala, and Sanga Mandala in Mas Village, Ubud, Bali, to preserve cultural values amidst rapid tourism growth. Employing a qualitative phenomenological approach within a naturalistic paradigm, the research integrates Landis’s (1958) theory of social structure and Bintarto’s (1983) spatial-economic interaction framework to analyze spatial organization. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis, using snowball sampling to engage key informants, including adat leaders and community members. Findings reveal that Desa Mas effectively maintains Tri Hita Karana’s harmony (Parhyangan, Pawongan, Palemahan) through zoned spatial planning, with Utama Mandala preserving sacred spaces, Madya Mandala fostering social activities, and Nista Mandala supporting economic functions. However, tourism-driven land conversion threatens traditional zoning, shifting economic activities from artisanal crafts to commercial ventures. The study underscores the resilience of Balinese zoning principles in sustaining cultural identity, yet highlights the need for adaptive strategies to mitigate modernization’s impact. By blending traditional philosophies with modern zoning theories, this research offers insights for sustainable spatial planning in culturally sensitive tourism destinations, contributing to global discourses on cultural preservation and urban-rural dynamics.

Abstract

Ijen caldera complex is a volcano that has a 7 km diameter elliptical caldera which only leaving a northern caldera wall curving towards the southward. Ijen crater as a youngest volcano and still active today stratigraphically composed of lava flow, pyroclastic flow sediments, and pyroclastic fallout. Threats that arise if an eruption occur is pyroclastic flow, pyroclastic fallout, lava flow, lahar flow, and water of ijen crater. The existance of vulcanic activity of Ijen crater impact positively to the society which live around the Ijen mountain region. Their economy rest on sulphur mining and the soil fertility which is used to potato, cabbage and coffee crop cultivation. If this happen it could be a serious threat for the environment, include the population settled around volcano and along the river upstream in the lake of this crater and is a catastrophe. The disaster can be huge because water volume of large enough crater lake and very acidic, besides the result of explotion such as hot clouds, phreatic eruption in the form of lava eruption is also possible to happen.

Abstract

ABSTRACTSpatial thinking skills are needed for students in following the geography learning process. This is aims to improve the ability think spatially with the Discovery Learning model in Geography learning. This is a type of Classroom Action Research at quantitative descriptive analysis which aims to improve the learning process from current conditions to expected conditions. The research was conducted at SMA N 13 Surabaya with the research object being class X-4 with 30 students. The class action research cycle is carried out twice with one face-to-face meeting each. Data collection techniques use observation, projects, and documentation consisting of teaching modules, attendance, and pictures of learning activities. The observation sheet is guided by the PPL 2 PPG Pre-service observation rubric. The conclusion is that there is an increasse the spatial abilities of students through the application of the discovery learning modelKecapakan berpikir spasial diperlukan bagi siswa/i untuk melaksanakan kegiatan belajar di kelas. Tujuan dari penelitian ini meningkatkan kemapuan berpikir spasial dengan model Discovery Learning pada pembelejaran Geografi. Penelitian Tindakan Kelas ini menggunakan analisis deskriptif kuantitatif. Penelitian dilaksanakan di SMA N 13 Surabaya dengan objek penelitian adalah kelas X-4 sebanyak 30 peserta didik. Siklus penelitian ini berjumlah dua siklus. Pengumpulan data dengan cara: observasi, proyek, dan dokumentasi yang terdiri dari modul ajar, presensi, dan gambar kegiatan pembelajaran. Lembar observasi berpedoman pada rubrik observasi PPL 2 PPG Prajabatan.. Kesimpulan adalah terjadi kenaikan tingkat keterampilan berpikir spasial peserta didik dengan model discovery learning

Abstract

Pelestarian budaya lokal di tengah arus globalisasi merupakan tantangan besar yang dihadapi masyarakat adat, termasuk di Bali. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji partisipasi masyarakat adat di sekitar Pura Gunung Kawi Sebatu, Gianyar, Bali dalam menjaga identitas budaya melalui pelestarian tradisi dan nilai-nilai lokal. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan etnografi, melalui observasi, wawancara, dokumentasi lapangan, serta kajian terhadap dokumen sejarah dan adat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa masyarakat adat memainkan peran sentral dalam pelestarian budaya melalui berbagai strategi seperti pelaksanaan upacara keagamaan (Piodalan, Kuningan, Melukat), keterlibatan generasi muda dalam aktivitas adat, pemeliharaan arsitektur pura berbasis kosmologi Bali, serta adaptasi terhadap wisata budaya dan penggunaan teknologi digital untuk dokumentasi tradisi. Di tengah tantangan modernisasi, masyarakat adat tetap mampu menjaga nilai-nilai spiritual dan sosial melalui mekanisme pewarisan budaya yang tidak hanya simbolik, tetapi juga praktik nyata dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Penerapan aturan adat kepada wisatawan juga menjadi bentuk edukasi budaya sekaligus proteksi terhadap kesucian situs. Temuan ini menegaskan pentingnya pelibatan aktif masyarakat lokal sebagai subjek pelestarian, bukan sekadar objek. Dengan demikian, pelestarian budaya menjadi tanggung jawab kolektif yang adaptif terhadap dinamika zaman namun tetap berakar pada nilai tradisional.

Abstract

Education plays a crucial role in building awareness of this issue, although its comprehensive implementation in schools has not yet been fully integrated. This study aims to investigate the impact of ecological education through socialization and tree-planting activities on students' understanding of climate change, as part of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The research method employed was a pre-experiment with a single-group pretest-posttest design, involving 38 students from SMP Negeri 5 Mojokerto. The results showed a significant increase in understanding following the activities. The learning model that combines theoretical and practical aspects proved to be effective in fostering environmental awareness and providing a more contextual learning experience. This ecology-based activity not only strengthens students' environmental literacy but also aligns with the SDGs, particularly those related to quality education, action on climate change, and conservation of terrestrial ecosystems. Therefore, schools play a crucial role in instilling ecological awareness from an early age through sustainable education that addresses the challenges of climate change. ABSTRAK Perubahan iklim membawa konsekuensi yang serius bagi kehidupan manusia, mulai dari deforestasi, hilangnya keanekaragaman hayati, hingga kenaikan suhu bumi. Kondisi ini menuntut keterlibatan generasi muda dalam menjaga keberlanjutan lingkungan. Pendidikan berperan penting dalam membangun kesadaran tersebut, meskipun penerapannya di sekolah masih belum sepenuhnya mengintegrasikan isu perubahan iklim secara menyeluruh. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji dampak pendidikan ekologi melalui kegiatan sosialisasi dan penanaman pohon terhadap pemahaman siswa mengenai perubahan iklim sebagai bagian dari implementasi Tujuan Pembangunan Berkelanjutan (SDGs). Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah pre-eksperimen dengan desain one-group pretest-posttest, melibatkan 38 siswa SMP Negeri 5 Mojokerto. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pemahaman yang signifikan setelah pelaksanaan kegiatan. Model pembelajaran yang memadukan aspek teoritis dan praktik nyata terbukti efektif dalam menumbuhkan kepedulian lingkungan serta memberikan pengalaman belajar yang lebih kontekstual. Kegiatan berbasis ekologi ini tidak hanya memperkuat literasi lingkungan siswa, tetapi juga selaras dengan tujuan SDGs, khususnya terkait pendidikan berkualitas, aksi terhadap perubahan iklim, dan pelestarian ekosistem darat. Dengan demikian, sekolah memiliki peranan penting dalam menanamkan kesadaran ekologi sejak dini melalui pendidikan berkelanjutan yang mampu menjawab tantangan perubahan iklim.
