Abstract

This study was aimed to find out the improvement of students’ ability in reading comprehension by using question answer relationship strategies in grade VIII SMP N 1 Pondidaha. The subject of this study was grade VIII SMP N 1 Pondidaha. It was consisted of 38 students. This research applied by Class Room Action Research. The technique of analyzing data of this research was applied by using descriptive technique. The qualitative data was taken from diary notes, interview, and observation sheet. The quantitative data was taken from the test. The result in pre-observation showed that there were 11 students who got the standard of achievement namely ≥ 70 (the rule from school) with the percentage of score 44%. While in the first cycle was improved became 17 students who got the standard of achievement (≥ 70) with the percentage of score was 63%. And in the second cycle was improved 24 who got the standard of achievement (≥ 70) with the percentage of score was 88% and in the second cycle was improved 24 who got the standard of achievement (≥ 70) with the percentage post test was 92 %. There was an improving of students’ reading achievement related to the target achievement of this research, namely 80% of them got standard score ≥ 70. It’s related to the result of observation showed that the students were more interested and motivated in joining the class and they were enthusiastic during teaching learning process.

Abstract

English speaking ability is still difficult to master for some people, including English major students who academically should be able to speak English fluently and correctly. This can be influenced by several factors, and based on information from the research subjects, shame and fear of making mistakes are some of the things that make them afraid to speak English. These problems are part of sociocultural factors. Therefore, this research aims to find out more about what sociocultural factors can affect students’ speaking ability. This research uses a qualitative method, a case study type. In addition, the subjects and this research were 5th semester students at Lakidende University, totaling 11 students. Then, the data in this research were analyzed through three stages, namely data reduction, data display and drawing conclusions. Then the results of this research indicate that sociocultural factors that can affect students’ English speaking ability consist of the role of parents, classroom environment, English learning community and the views or attitudes of people in the environment around the students. The conclusion of this research is that it can be concluded that the sociocultural factors that most affect English speaking ability include the role of students’ parents and a supportive classroom environment. While the next factor that also has a large affect in affecting students’ English speaking ability is the existence of an English learning community. As for sociocultural factors that do not have a broad and significant affect, namely the attitudes or views given by people in the environment around the students.

Abstract

The contribution of Schemata toward Reading Comprehension: A Case of their contribution at fourth semester of Lakidende University learners. Schemata have an important role in the process of reading. With regard to reading in a foreign language, one crucial determinant of reading comprehension is the amount of background knowledge readers have. Although readers can turn printed symbols into sounds and word accurately, it cannot guarantee their comprehension. Inadequate background knowledge especially cultural one can have an effect on reading comprehension.The objective of this study are to find out the contribution of students schemata toward students reading comprehension achievement at fourth semester of Lakidende University learners. The population of this research are all the fourth semester of lakidende university learners who enrolled in academic year 2020/2021 with 17 students.  The data will collect through questionnaire and tests. After collecting the data, the data will analyze by statistically. The first step in analyzing data are checked the normality, homogeneity and linearity of the data as requirement to apply the inferential statistic on non inferential statistic parameters. In testing the hypothesis, T-Test analysis will apply by using SPSS 16 version

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh metode pembelajaran two stay two stray terhadap kemampuan membaca siswa melalui penelitian kuasi eksperimen. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan penggunaan metode pembelajaran Two Stay Two Stray terhadap kemampuan membaca siswa. kemampuan pemahaman membaca siswa kelas VIIIA SMP Negeri 1 Wawotobi. Hal ini terlihat dari hasil Independent Sample t-Test diperoleh nilai Sig.(2-tailed) mempunyai nilai 0,000 dan nilai distribusi ttabel dilihat berdasarkan df = 53 dengan tingkat signifikansi ???? = 0,05 adalah 1,674.Karena Sig. nilai (2-tailed) 0.000 < 0.05 didasarkan pada dasar pengambilan keputusan pada uji Independent Sample t-Test dimana jika nilai signifikansi (2-tailed) < 0.05 maka hipotesis diterima artinya terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap metode two stay two stray terhadap kemampuan siswa dalam pemahaman membaca siswa. Jadi pada akhir penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan Ho ditolak dan Ha diterima atau hipotesis diterima.”

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan menulis siswa melalui metode fishbone. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas yang terdiri dari dua siklus. Penelitian ini terdiri dari empat langkah di setiap siklusnya, yaitu perencanaan, tindakan, observasi, dan refleksi. Setiap siklus dilaksanakan selama tiga pertemuan. Dalam mengajar menulis kepada siswa, peneliti menggunakan Metode Fishbone. Hal ini membuat siswa merasa mudah untuk mengorganisir ide mereka dan membuat siswa tertarik belajar bahasa Inggris terutama dalam menulis teks deskriptif. Objek dari penelitian ini adalah di SMPN 1 Tongauna. Para subjek adalah semua siswa kelas VII.1 SMPN 1 Tongauna pada tahun akademik 2017/2018 yang terdiri dari 30 siswa. Jumlah siswa laki-laki adalah 16 siswa dan siswa perempuan sebanyak 14 siswa. Data dikumpulkan melalui data kualitatif (lembar observasi) dan data kuantitatif (tes tulisan). Berdasarkan temuan data kualitatif, siswa mampu menghasilkan ide-ide mereka untuk menghasilkan teks deskriptif yang terorganisir dengan baik. Mereka juga mampu menggunakan kosakata dan tata bahasa yang tepat dalam tulisan mereka. Sedangkan hasil dari data kuantitatif menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata nilai siswa meningkat. Pada pre-test, sebelum menggunakan metode fishbone, skor total siswa adalah 1120. Hanya ada 2 siswa yang lulus skor standar (KKM ≥ 70) sedangkan siswa yang tidak lulus skor standar (KKM ≤ 70) sebanyak 28 siswa. Target kriteria pencapaian belum tercapai. Jika minimal 75% siswa mendapatkan skor standar 70, maka berarti kemampuan menulis mereka meningkat. Pada siklus I, skor total siswa adalah 1775. Siswa yang lulus KKM sebanyak 9 siswa, kemudian 21 siswa tidak berhasil. Ini berarti kemampuan menulis siswa pada siklus I telah meningkat dibandingkan pre-test. Namun, siklus ini masih belum berhasil dan perlu ditingkatkan pada siklus II. Pada siklus II, skor total adalah 1970. Siswa yang mencapai kriteria keberhasilan (KKM ≥ 70) meningkat menjadi 16 siswa, sementara 14 siswa tidak berhasil. Kemudian pada tes berikutnya pada post-test, siswa yang mencapai kriteria keberhasilan (KKM ≥ 70) meningkat menjadi 23 siswa sementara 7 siswa tidak berhasil dengan skor total 2205. Berdasarkan temuan hasil pada siklus II dan post tes, hal tersebut menjelaskan bahwa terdapat peningkatan yang signifikan pada skor menulis siswa, sehingga penelitian dihentikan. Dari hasil tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan metode fishbone dapat meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam menulis yang difokuskan pada aspek kosakata dan tata bahasa.
