Abstract

This study discusses how the English Club supports students' speaking performance at SMP Negeri 1 Salatiga. Several previous studies have shown that English Clubs can improve fluency and confidence, but few studies have discussed how club activities are carried out and how clubs support the improvement of students' speaking performance at the junior high school level. This study aims to fill this gap by describing the implementation of the English Club and the forms of support provided to students. The study uses a descriptive qualitative method through observation and semi-structured interviews with eight members and two facilitators of English Club. The results show that activities such as discussions, interactive games, paired conversations, and role-plays improve students' fluency, vocabulary, pronunciation, and confidence. The relaxed and supportive environment reduces anxiety and encourages active participation. This study confirms that English clubs are an effective platform for developing students' speaking performance and provides practical implications for schools and teachers in designing more structured and meaningful club activities.

Abstract

This paper is based on the research by Steinberg in 1982 and 1993 to answer the question of how children and adults control second/foreign languages with the focus on giving more reasonable answers whether the children are better than adults in the mastery. The process of obtaining second language can be from the natural/social/acquisition and from class/learning. The learner's internal factors such as the role of the first language, motivation, and attitudes are also very important in determining the success of second language acquisition. Steinberg et al. try to draw the conclusion that the decrease in memory power for learners is associated with age. Age cannot be a benchmark for the success rate of mastering a second/foreign language other than mother tongue as long as the involved people have desire to use the foreign language or the second language for the purpose of integrating and socializing.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of the Blooket interactive quiz in stimulating student learning interest in Ratio material among Grade VII students at SMP Negeri 1 Salatiga, considering students’ difficulties in integrating abstract Ratio concepts with real-world problem-solving contexts. This descriptive qualitative research, employing a single case study approach, was conducted at SMP Negeri 1 Salatiga. Data were collected through triangulation (in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation) with the Math teacher and student groups. The results indicate that Blooket’s implementation is transformative in enhancing learning interest. The platform functions as (1) an Affective Catalyst, transforming formative assessment into a recreational experience that increases pleasure (88,75% of students found it engaging) and frees up cognitive resources from test anxiety. (2) a Contextual Cognitive Bridge, helping students apply Ratio concepts into strategic game scenarios (Gold Quest or Cafe Factory), bridging the gap between procedural and conceptual knowledge. (3) Conative triggers encourage active participation and significant persistence in learning. It is concluded that Blooket is an effective pedagogical innovation in stimulating all three dimensions of student learning interest simultaneously, making it highly suitable for use as a learning medium.
