Abstract

Lubrication is one aspect that must be paid attention to, remembering that if there is a delay in lubrication or imperfect lubrication, it will result in damage to the parts that rub together. Low lubricating oil pressure is one of the factors causing imperfect lubrication in the engine. The purpose of lubrication for the performance of the main engine is to reduce friction between other components of the main engine. This research was carried out at MV. Manalagi Dasa, the method used in this research was the Fishbone Diagram. The problem formulation of this research is what causes an increase in the temperature of the lubricating oil on the main motor and what is the impact of increasing the temperature of the lubricating oil on the main motor. Based on research that has been carried out, there are several factors that cause less than optimal lubrication of the oil cooler on the main engine, namely engine factors including damage to gaskets, human factors, namely the lack of understanding of the driver about the lo cooler, operational and maintenance method factors, namely incompatibility in implementing the PMS (Plan Maintenance System) as well as environmental factors, namely dirty sea chest filters. Efforts made include repairing or replacing gaskets on the lo cooler plate, the importance of the machinist's understanding of the lo cooler, implementing PMS (Plan Maintenance System), and cleaning the sea chest filter.

Abstract

An oily water separator is an auxiliary engine on board that is used to prevent the mixing of oil and water with density differences. The oily water separator is very important on board for the separation of the ship's bilges from oil content which can pollute the marine ecosystem. This matter also fulfills the requirements of MARPOL 73/78 Annex 1 when the researcher carried out a sea project on SS. Golden Isaia, The researcher found the abnormality of the oily water separator. There was a decrease in its discharge volume, in which the normal flow was 5 m 3 / hour, which became 1 m 3 / hour. The purpose of this research was to determine the causal factor of oily water separator decreasing discharge volume on SS. Golden Isaia, evaluate the impacts, and the efforts to solve this oily water separator decreasing discharge volume on SS. Golden Isaiah. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method by applying a fishbone diagram analysis model. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and literature review. The interviews involved three informants, there chief engineer the one responsible for all machinery on board, the second engineer whose responsible for the oily water separator, and oiler 1 as the second engineer's assistant. The research results conclude that the causal factors of oily water separator decreasing discharge volume such as the lack of pressure of the oily water separator feed pump, dirty process filter due to accumulated dirt, and unavailability of oily water separator maintenance history. The efforts to solve this oily water separator decrease discharge volume on SS. Golden Isaia such as the change of a feed pump set with the new one, cleaning the strainer and replacing the filter bag, and the documentation of repair and maintenance.

Abstract

The main engine Lubricating Oil (LO) standby pump is crucial for smooth ship operations. Therefore, it is essential that this equipment is well-maintained. However, future problems can arise and disrupt ship operations if the maintenance schedule is not followed. The main engine lubrication system can be disrupted due to a damaged L.O. standby pump, which can interfere with the smooth lubrication of the main engine. Based on field observation during a 12-month and 2-day sea project on board MT. Klawotong, the researcher experienced overheating of the L.O. standby pump. When the ship entered bad weather on the voyage from Wayame to Tual, it disrupted the crew's comfort on board while working. The purpose of this research is to determine the causal factors, the impact of overheating on the pump, and efforts to prevent overheating of the L.O. pump. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method by conducting interviews and direct field observations. Data analysis technique using SHEL (Software, Hardware, Environment and Liveware). By interviewing the Chief Engineer, 2nd Engineer, and 4th Engineer, this study states that overheating of the main engine L.O. standby pump is caused by a damaged rubber coupling, a damaged oil seal, and abnormal vibration in the pump. The impact of these factors will reduce pump performance, reduce lubrication in the main engine, and reduce pump performance. Preventive measures can be done by implementing routine maintenance on the pump and cleaning the oil filter regularly. Cleaning dirt adhering to the oil filter using a brush, solar, and following the procedures correctly and properly.
