Abstract

The ability to speak English can make a person more superior and have the opportunity to compete in the future, mastery requires Indonesian as an intermediary language to facilitate the introduction of the language. The elementary school level is the basic stage of mastering English. The study of English teaching with code switching needs to be done as an effort to find out the ongoing teaching process and its situation. This research method is a descriptive qualitative with the research subjects of elementary school teachers under the Al-Falah Islamic Education Foundation Semarang. The stages of the research method are through data collection (observation, questionnaire and interview). Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that English Teaching with code switching by teachers occurs in the pre-activities, main-activities and post-activities in the classroom and most occur during the exploration of material, elaboration of material and drawing conclusions; Teachers use code switching to clarify vocabulary and material, especially new material, to represent the expression to be conveyed especially when it is difficult to find a word equivalent, as well as to maintain the use of Indonesian for teachers and students; The obstacles faced are the limitations between teaching time and the target material taught by the teacher. For this reason, the teacher must be able to manage time and organize the use of code switching techniques in a timely manner.

Abstract

This research investigated the cultural immersion and pedagogical exchange of pre-service teachers participating in the SEA Teacher program, with focus on its impact on teaching practices and career development in the home country. A phenomenological qualitative design was employed. Data were collected through questionnaires and interviews with twelve pre-service teachers who participated in the SEA Teacher program in Dong Thap, Vietnam. Therefore, the criteria taken in the selection of participants such as: (1) participation in the full duration of the program, (2) teaching experience in at least one host school in Dong Thap, and (3) willingness to engage in in-depth interviews and reflection. Participants reported increased awareness of the need to adapt teaching methodologies to align with local cultural contexts, which was perceived to improve learning outcomes and foster cultural sensitivity. Language barriers were reframed as opportunities to employ creative instructional strategies, such as games and collaborative activities, which enhanced student engagement. The research also highlighted the role of cultural knowledge, communication skills, and open-mindedness in promoting inclusive learning environments. Findings suggest that integrating culturally responsive pedagogies contributes to a positive and engaging classroom atmosphere. Furthermore, this research identified a need for structured pre-program training, including virtual classroom observations and curriculum workshops with partner institutions. The participants’ readiness may be enhanced with such preparation to design context-specific learning modules and navigate local educational systems effectively.

Abstract

This research analyzed Shawshank Redemption movie, a movie by Frank Darabont. This movie told about the struggling of Andy Dufresne who was accused of the murder of his wife and her affair. This research focused on moral value of the movie. The methodology of this research is descriptive qualitative method. This study aims to found the moral values of Shawshank Redemption movie. Documentation method was used to collect the data and descriptive analysis technique to analyze the data. The results of this study are the moral values found in the Shawshank Redemption movie; honestly, hard work, unconditional love and kindness, compassion, and co-operation. Then hard work as the most dominant moral value appears in the Shawshank Redemption movie, because this moral value often occurs in this movie.

Abstract

Mastery of English in early childhood can be obtained from direct and indirect interactions, but if it is difficult to convey orally then it can be shown by action. At the kindergarten level of education, the role of the teacher is very important to apply language learning methods, so that students can capture and understand the teaching given. The Total Physical Response (TPR) method is very suitable for English language learning in early childhood. The problem studied refers to the formulation of the problem as follows:  1) How does the teacher of TK PL Kartini Semarang implement English learning with TPR method for the students? 2) How do the students respond English learning using TPR? 3) What obstacles are faced by the teachers of TK PL Kartini Semarang when they use TPR? The research method is descriptive qualitative. The subjects of the research include the teachers and students of TK PL Kartini Semarang. The conclusion of this research activity are: 1) Total Physical Response can be used to introduce vocabulary and simple instructions in English through movement and expression from the teacher; 2) Students of TK PL Kartini Semarang feel enthusiastic and happy in learning English vocabulary and instructions because they can express and do a lot of movements; 3) The obstacle faced by teachers of TK PL Kartini Semarang in the use of TPR is some instructions that need position change of the students make the class so rowdy so that teachers need extra monitoring toward student activities.
