Abstract

The 6th highest diseases that occur in Indonesian society include dental caries and periodontitis caused by dental plaque which is a breeding ground for bacteria such as Streptococcus mutants and Phorphyromonas gingivalis. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of chitosan on levels of Interleukin-6 and Malondhyaldehyde (MDA), as an anti-inflammatory marker using the Elisa test. The research method was a true experimental randomized posttest only control group design, with 3 treatment groups namely control, 2% chitosan gel, and 100mg/200g/bb of chitosan orally in 15 Wistar rats with periodontitis induced by Phorphyromonas gingivalis bacteria. The results showed that the mean levels of Interleukin-6 and Mallondhyaldehyde were significantly different (p<0.05) between the control group, chitosan gel treatment, and oral chitosan administration Interleukin-6 levels were the highest in the chitosan gel (8.3091±1.25570), the control average (5.8523±0.51512), the lowest oral average (3.2563±1.45952). Similarly, Mallondhyaldehyde levels were highest in the gel group (2.8850±0.19353), control group (2.2284±0.00914), and oral group (1.2943±0.60280).). Based on these results, oral chitosan was the most effective in the treatment of periodontitis.

Abstract

World Health Organization in 2016, of 100% of school-aged children, 60%-90% experience dental caries. The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge about cariogenic foods and the caries condition of permanent teeth in class III students at SD Muhammadiyah 2 Denpasar in 2025. This type of research is observational. The type of data used in this research is primary and secondary data using question sheets and direct examination. The results of this research on 50 class III students showed that the majority of students' knowledge level regarding cariogenic foods was in the good category, namely 48 students (96%). Only one student (2%) had sufficient knowledge and one student (2%) had insufficient knowledge. The average knowledge obtained was 92.8. The percentage of permanent dental caries with very low criteria was 42 students (84%), six students (12%) had low caries levels, and two students (4%) had moderate caries levels. The average number of dental caries experienced by students was 0.64, which is included in the very low category. The results of Spearman's correlation analysis obtained a significance value of 0.203, greater than 0.05, meaning there is no relationship between the level of knowledge about carcinogenic foods and permanent dental caries in class III students at SD Muhammadiyah 2 Denpasar in 2025. Abstract

The results of the Basic Health Research data (2018) in the 10-14 year age group showed that 97.58% brushed their teeth every day but 3.68% brushed their teeth at the correct time. This study aims to determine the differences in knowledge of dental and oral health maintenance and tooth brushing skills of fourth grade students of Muhammadiyah 2 Denpasar Elementary School before and after being given counseling using animated video media. This study is an analytical study using the Wilcoxon test. The number of respondents was 50 students. The results showed an increase in students' knowledge and skills. Before counseling, the largest percentage of knowledge was 28 students (56%) with sufficient criteria, after being given counseling, the largest percentage was 40 students (80%) with good criteria. The average knowledge before being given counseling was 71.80 with sufficient criteria and after being given counseling it became 83.20 with good criteria. The highest percentage of skills was 37 students (74%) with the criteria need guidance. After being given counseling, there were 34 students (68%) with very good criteria. The average skill before counseling was 50.875 criteria need guidance and after counseling was given 85.625 criteria very good. The results of the Wilcoxon test on students' knowledge and skills with a significance value of Sig (2 tailed) of 0.000 is smaller than 0.05. It can be concluded that there is a difference in knowledge of dental health maintenance and tooth brushing skills before and after counseling with animated videos.
