The aim of learning English was to develop students’ competence in oral and written communication to research the functional literacy stated in the 2013 Curriculum. This study investigated the link between students' self-esteem and their speaking skills. It employed correlational study. A questionnaire and an oral test were employed to collect data. A questionnaire was utilized to assess the students' self-esteem, and an oral test was employed to assess their speaking abilities. The eleventh graders at SMAN 5 Ogan Komering Ilir were the focus of this study. 103 students selected as a sample from a population of 172. A Pearson Product Moment Correlation method was used to examine the data. The study's findings revealed that r-obtained (0.644) was greater than r-table (0.194) when the p-value (0.000) was less than 0.05. It meant that the null hypothesis (Ho) had been rejected and that the alternative hypothesis (Ho) had been accepted. In other words, there was a link between students' self-esteem and their ability to communicate. It is possible that learners' self-esteem influenced their speaking abilities. As a result, the higher the learners' self-esteem, the better their speaking abilities.

The goal of this study was to determine whether eighth graders at SMP PGRI Pedamaran who received instruction in the online reading strategy differed significantly from those who did not in their reading comprehension abilities. A quasi-experimental design was implemented for this study. The data was obtained through a written test consisting of multiple-choice questions. T-test was applied to the data for analysis. Based on the findings of the independent sample t-test, it was determined that the Pvalue (0.000) was less than the value (0.05) and the t-test obtained (2.917) was greater than the t-table (2.00). The results pointed out that alternative hypotheses were found to be accepted whereas null hypotheses were found to be rejected. The students who were taught by applying Online Reading Strategy and those who were not showed a significant difference in their reading comprehension achievement. In other words, SMP PGRI Pedamaran eighth grade students' reading comprehension performance was enhanced by employing an online reading strategy.

This research aimed to investigate whether the students who were taught using Partner Reading Strategy had better reading comprehension achievement than those who were not. The method used was quasi-experimental. The sample of this study was 70 tenth graders involved experimental group (class X MIPA 2) and control group (class X MIPA 3). Each group consisted of 35 students. The written test in the form of multiplechoice was administered to get data collection. Before giving the test, the test was tried out to non-samples students of the eighth-grade students of SMA Negeri 4 Kayuagung class X MIPA 1 to check the validity and reliability of the test. The data were analyzed using t-test. The result of the t-test was significant at p<0.05 with df = 68, the critical value of ttable = 1.995. Since the value of tobtained (9.304) was higher than the critical value of ttable = (1.995), Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. It means that the students who were taught using Partner Reading Strategy had comprehension in reading that made their reading comprehension achievement improve better and that those who were not

The instrument of this research was 30questions about recount text in the form of multiple-choice test. To analyze the data, t-test was used. Based on the result of independent sample t-test, the value of tobtainedwas 3.718 at significance level p<0.05 in two-tailed testing anddf=60, the critical value of ttablewas 2.0003. Since the value of tobtained (3.718) was higher than ttable(2.0003) and pvalue (0.000) was less than αvalue 0.05, it meant that there was a significant difference in reading comprehensionbetween the students who were taught usingTHIEVES strategy and that of those who were not.
