Abstract

This study aims to generate a clear and comprehensive description of the students’ competence in the mathematical modeling courses after the lecturers are based on the design task. The students’ competence that will be measured in this research is the competence in constructing mathematical modeling that has been made. In this paper, we will deeply discuss for the competence in constructing mathematical modeling task and validating it. The method used is descriptive qualitative and the subject of this study were 23 students of the 2017/2018 academic year who took mathematics modeling courses. This research starts from the planning stage, namely the analysis of the study of mathematical modeling material, design and validation of research instruments. Furthermore, the implementation phase is taking observation data, interviews and field notes during lectures based on problem development. The last stage of the research is data analysis. The data collection techniques in this study were in the form of observations, interviews, and field notes. The results of this study were obtained descriptions of student competencies in constructing mathematical modeling problems and found misunderstanding of students in interpreting assumptions and variables in mathematical modeling.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menelaah salah satu aspek kemampuan mengajar dikenal sebagai Classroom Mathematical Questioning Skill (CMQS) mahasiswa praktikan pada mata kuliah Micro Teaching semester genap tahun 2018 di Program Studi Pendidikan Matematika, FKIP Universitas Maritim Raja Ali Haji. Penelitian dengan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif ini menggunakan observasi langsung sebagai teknik pengumpulan data pada aspek keterampilan mengajar. Untuk dapat mengukur CMQS sebagai satu dari banyak aspek keterampilan mengajar yang diteliti, digunakan teknik penilaian dengan lembar penilaian yang diisi pakar setelah melakukan observasi langsung. Data mentah dari lembar penilaian keterampilan mengajar diolah menggunakan analisis model RASCH pada aspek item measure, dan person-map item. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa CMQS merupakan aspek mengajar tersulit bagi mahasiswa praktikan dengan item measure bernilai logit 2,52. Hanya 14,5% praktikan yang mampu menunjukkan kemampuan memuaskan dalam CMQS. Selanjutnya hasil analisis dan observasi langsung dijadikan landasan dalam mendeskripsikan CMQS mahasiswa praktikan. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa praktikan memiliki keterbatasan dalam memberikan pertanyaan bertipe high level dan sangat kurang sekali memberikan ruang bagi siswa untuk menjelaskan dan mengelaborasi secara mendalam jawaban atas pertanyaan yang diberikan praktikan. Kata kunci: CMQS, RASCH, analisis Abstract: This study aims to examine one aspect of teaching ability known as Classroom Mathematical Questioning Skills (CMQS) of practicing students on the Micro Teaching course on even semester of year 2018 in the Mathematics Education Study Program, FKIP, Universitas Maritim Raja Ali Haji. Research with a descriptive qualitative approach used direct observation as a data collection technique on aspects of teaching skills. To be able to measure CMQS as one of the many aspects of teaching skills studied, an assessment technique was used with an assessment sheet that was filled in by experts after direct observation. The raw data from the teaching skills assessment sheet was processed using the RASCH model analysis on the item measure and person-map items. The analysis showed that CMQS is the most difficult aspect of teaching for practicing students with 2.52 logit measure items. Only 14.5% of the students were able to demonstrate satisfying abilities in CMQS. Furthermore, the results of the analysis and direct observation were used as a basis in describing the students practice CMQS. This study showed that practicing students have limitations in giving high level type questions and gave very little space for students to explain and elaborate in depth the answers to questions given by the practicing students themselves.. Keywords: CMQS, RASCH, analysis

Abstract

In the industrial revolution 4.0 era, teacher needs to utilize information and communication technology (ICT) in learning. The professionalism competencies proclaimed by teachers also require teachers to be able to develop interactive and interesting learning media so that there is an increase in the quality of learning. This challenge is inversely proportional to the conditions in the field, namely that there are no teachers in the Mathematics Teacher Association(MGMP) at SMA and SMK in Bintan Regency who develop learning multimedia and utilize technology such as social media as learning media. For this reason, Community Service (PkM) activities needs to be conducted, with theme disseminating learning multimedia with videoscribe on social media (e-learning). The PkM activity was concluded to be going well with indicator 1) 100% participant (teacher) got involved during mentoring; 2) the production of learning video by teachers and the dissemination of the learning videos on the YouTube channel; 3) teacher participants require for more training activities.

Abstract

Matematika memiliki objek kajian abstrak yang terbagi menjadi menjadi empat yakni fakta, konsep, prosedur, dan prinsip. Pemahaman pada empat objek krusial ini menentukan pemahaman lebih baik terhadap matematika yang berimbas pada kualitas mengajar matematika oleh guru. Mengingat pentingnya memahamai objek matematika tersebut, maka dilakukan penelusuran melalui Focus Group Discussion terhadap 17 guru matematika SMA Kabupaten Bintan, Kepulauan Riau. Melalui teknik ini digali informasi mengenai pemahaman guru meliputi bagaimana guru mendefinisikan dan memberikan contoh pada masing-masing objek tersebut. Data kualitatif dianalisis secara deskriptif meliputi reduksi data, penyajian data, dan kesimpulan. Agar dapat menginterpretasi situasi, maka digunakan teori yang memungkinkan terbangunnya kesimpulan empiris. Hasil menunjukkan hanya objek fakta yang dapat didefinisikan dengan baik dengan pemberian contoh yang tepat dan luwes. Objek prosedur dipahami oleh semua guru, tetapi pemberian contoh terbatas hanya pada konteks bilangan. Konsep sebagai sebuah objek didefinisikan sebagai ide abstrak dan diasosiakan sebagai definisi oleh tidak lebih dari sepertiga guru dengan pemberian contoh terbatas. Pandangan mengenai konsep sebagai semua konten termuat dalam materi merupakan hal yang juga muncul di kalangan guru. Prinsip sebagai objek yang paling rumit tidak dipahami oleh semua guru dan di atas situasi tersebut pemberian contoh tidak dapat dilakukan.

Abstract

This study aims to see how the implementation and students’ perceptions of e-learning type blended learning in Mathematics Capita Selecta course. The e-learning in this study utilized the Syarah portal, an online learning application developed by Universitas Maritim Raja Ali Haji (UMRAH) responding to the 4.0 era. This online learning using Syarah was the first time applied to research subjects, namely 35 students of Mathematics Capita Selecta Course year 2019. The data was collected from the results of the researchers' observations during the learning process and students’ responses to the questionnaire. The data were analyzed qualitatively to describe how the implementation of e-learning and how students’ perceptions about e-learning Syarah in supporting them to learn. The results of the analysis show that the Syarah system and students are ready for the implementation of online learning. Students’ confusion only occurs at the initial meeting of each type of e-learning activities designed by the researcher. Hereinafter, students could carry out learning well, even independently, but with clearly stated instructions. In addition, students were actively involved during the e-learning process. It also reveals that students felt more open to engaging in e-learning activities than when they were in class. In general, students gave positive responses to the use of Syarah in supporting blended learning.

Abstract

Technological developments in the industrial era 4.0, which coincided with the Covid-19 Pandemic, required teachers to teach students from home. The use of technology is the right solution during the current Pandemic. This research and development aim to produce an Appropriate Technology (AT) e-book on mobile learning during a Pandemic for mathematics teachers that is valid and practical. The subjects of this study were 17 high school mathematics teachers in Lingga and Bintan districts. The research design used is the ADDIE development model, which specifically includes (1) analysis, (2) design, and (3) development. The instruments of data collection used a validation questionnaire sheet and a practicality questionnaire sheet. The data were analyzed by qualitative descriptive statistics to see the validity and practicality of the AT e-book developed. The results showed that the AT e-book was valid, as seen from the validation results of the validators, the score showed an average of 92.5% with very valid criteria. Based on the results of the practicality questionnaire, the AT e-book obtained an average score of 84.9% in the very practical criteria. This result was also confirmed by the teachers directly that the book helped them understand mobile learning easily. Therefore, it can be concluded that the AT e-book on mobile learning during the Pandemic for mathematics teachers has been categorized as valid and practical.

Abstract

In the implementation of the teaching and learning process, the use of learning media is still not optimally applied, besides seeing the obstacles experienced by students in learning mathematics, especially the material for rows and Series. So, a solution is needed to deal with the problems that occur. Based on the results of interviews conducted with a mathematics subject teacher, it was found that the teaching materials required by students to support mathematics learning with the demands of the use of technology were in the form of teaching materials that could be run on a computer or smartphone. This study aims to describe the development of learning media in the form of interactive multimedia using Adobe Animate on the material of sequences and Series for class XI Islamic High School (MAN) Bintan, which is valid and practical. The type of research used is Research and Development (R&D) using the ADDIE research model, which stands for Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation; in this current research, it was only until the implementation stage. The subjects of this study were 20 students of class XI MAN Bintan. The types of data in this study are quantitative and qualitative data. Research instruments are media and material validation sheets and questionnaires for teacher and student responses to be checked for practicality. The results showed: (1) the validity of interactive multimedia based on the assessment of media and material experts got an average percentage of 81,37% validity with very valid criteria. (2) the practicality of interactive multimedia based on the questionnaire responses of teachers and students after using interactive multimedia got an average percentage of 89,34% practicality with very practical criteria.

Abstract

Tujuan kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PkM) ini adalah untuk melatih guru-guru yang tergabung dalam Musyawarah Guru Mata Pelajaran (MGMP) Matematika SMA Kabupaten Lingga dan Bintan untuk mengembangkan mobile learning sebagai salah satu alternatif pembelajaran matematika daring pada masa pandemi. Metode pelaksanaan berupa penyampaian materi, demonstrasi, dan pendampingan untuk menghasilkan mobile learning dengan aplikasi construct 2 dan aplikasi website 2 apk. Demi melihat keberhasilan kegiatan, peserta diberikan angket melalui google form sebelum pelatihan untuk menilai kemampuan awal guru, dan setelah pelatihan untuk melihat dampak kegiatan terhadap keterampilan pengembangan mobile learning oleh guru serta untuk mendapatkan penilaian guru terhadap pemateri, konten, dan teknis pelaksanaan kegiatan. Data kuantitatif dari angket ini dianalisis secara deskriptif dan diperoleh respons yang sangat baik untuk aspek pemateri dan konten, dan untuk aspek teknis pelaksanaan sebesar 62% peserta menyatakan baik dan lainnya sangat baik. Guru peserta juga menyampaikan pesan kesan langsung yakni kepuasan dan merasakan manfaat setelah mengikuti kegiatan pelatihan. Dokumentasi pengumpulan produk mobile learning matematika yang dikembangkan oleh guru juga dinilai baik dan menunjukkan keberhasilan pelatihan.

Abstract

 Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian design research tipe validation study yang bertujuan untuk mengembangkan learning trajectory pada pembelajaran geometri topik geometri tiga dimensi untuk menunjang kemampuan berpikir kualitatif siswa dengan pendekatan Rigorous Mathematical Thinking (RMT). Hypothetical Learning Trajectory (HLT) akan disempurnakan sepanjang pembelajaran yang dilakukan di dalam kelas. Kegiatan dibuat dan dirancang dalam bentuk lembar kerja siswa (LKPD) untuk menunjang proses pembelajaran. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas XII SMA Negeri 1 Palembang, sedangkan kelompok fokus penelitian ini adalah 6 siswa dengan kemampuan yang bervariasi yaitu tinggi, sedang, dan rendah yang dipilih berdasarkan hasil prestasi yang didokumentasikan oleh guru dalam semester sebelumnya serta rekomendasi guru mata pelajaran matematika. Ada tiga tahapan dalam melakukan penelitian ini, yaitu: (1) preparing the experiment; (2) design experiment dibagi menjadi preliminary experiment dan teaching experiment; (3) retrospective analysis. Data penelitian dikumpulkan dan akan dianalisis secara kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa lintasan belajar yang dibuat menggunakan tingkat berpikir kualitatif dengan indikator yang sering terlihat pada siswa kelas XII MIPA 7 SMA Negeri 1 Palembang adalah indikator visualisasi dan pelabelan. Lintasan belajar yang diperoleh dari penelitian ini didasarkan pada LKPD yang telah dilakukan oleh siswa dimana masalah berkontribusi untuk membangun micro teaching dalam pembelajaran dimensi ketiga. (10pt)This research is a research design type validation study that aims to develop a learning trajectory on the study of geometry topics of three-dimensional geometry to support students' qualitative thinking skills with a Rigorous Mathematical Thinking (RMT) approach. Hypothetical Learning Trajectory (HLT) will be refined throughout the lesson carried out in the classroom. The activities were created and designed using student worksheets (LKPD) to support the learning process. The subjects of the study were students of SMA Negeri 1 Palembang class XII, meanwhile, the focus group of this study was 6 students with varied abilities, namely high, medium, and low who were selected based on the achievement result documented by the teacher in the previous semester as well as the recommendations of teachers of mathematics subjects. There are three stages in conducting this research, namely: (1) Preparation Phase; (2) Design experiments divided into pilot experiments and teaching experiments; (3) retrospective analysis. Research data is collected and will be analyzed qualitatively. The results showed that the learning trajectory made using qualitative thinking levels with indicators often seen in students of SMA Negeri 1 Palembang class XII MIPA 7 is an indicator of visualization and labeling. The learning trajectory obtained from this study is based on LKPD that has been done by students where the problem contributes to building micro-teaching in third-dimensional learning.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe biggest challenge for Mathematics teachers is mastering Mathematics material with its abstract, logical, systematic and structured character for itself before teaching it to students. The teacher must mastering mathematical objects such as facts, concepts, operations, and principles and be able to describe these objects in every Math material. Not only that, the challenges from the pedagogical aspects also forced teachers to be able to think about how to teach abstract Mathematics material to students so that learning objectives are achieved. The choice of context and learning media is also an important aspect contributing to the success of the teaching and learning process. However, all these aspects are often a problem among teachers, especially at the high school level. Weaknesses in mastering the material as well as weaknesses in pedagogical aspects often arise in teaching mathematics. This certainly raises many ideas that can be discussed so that weaknesses can be minimized. One of them is improving understanding of Mathematics objects and emphasizing the choice of context and learning media. In this Community Service activity, the teacher is introduced to the use of videoscribe to develop media with local context in teaching Mathematics objects. Through this activity a change in understanding of mathematical objects, the roles and functions of health and learning media went better. In addition, participants can run videoscribe to create learning media that integrates all of the above aspects.Keywords: local context, learning media, mathematics object, videoscribe  ABSTRAKTantangan terbesar bagi guru Matematika adalah menguasai materi Matematika dengan karakternya yang abstrak, logis, sistematis dan terstruktur untuk dirinya sendiri sebelum mengajarkannya kepada siswa. Guru harus menguasai objek matematika seperti fakta, konsep, operasi, dan prinsip dan mampu menguraikan objek-objek tersebut di setiap materi Matematika. Tak hanya itu, tantangan dari aspek pedagogis juga memaksa guru untuk dapat memikirkan bagaimana cara mengajarkan materi Matematika yang abstrak tersebut kepada siswa agar tujuan pembelajaran tercapai. Pemilihan konteks dan media pembelajaran sekiranya juga menjadi aspek penting penyumbang keberhasilan proses pengajaran dan pembelajaran. Namun, semua aspek-aspek tersebut seringkali menjadi permasalahan di kalangan Guru terutama pada level SMA. Kelemahan penguasaan materi serta kelemahan dalam aspek pedagogis seringkali muncul dalam pengajaran matematika. Hal ini tentunya memunculkan banyak ide yang dapat diperbincangkan agar kelemahan dapat diminimalisir. Salah satunya adalah peningkatan pemahan terhadap objek Matematika serta penekanan pada pemilihan konteks dan media pembelajaran. Dalam kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat ini, guru diperkenalkan pada penggunaan videoscribe untuk mengembangkan media dengan konteks lokal dalam mengajarkan objek Matematika. Melalui kegiatan ini terjadi perubahan pemahaman mengenai objek matematika, peran dan fungsi kontkes dan media pembelajaran ke arah lebih baik. Di samping itu, peserta dapat menjalankan videoscribe untk membuat media pembelajaran yang mengitgrasikan kesemua aspek di atas.Kata Kunci: konteks lokal,  media pembelajaran, objek matematika, videoscribe
