Abstract

ABSTRACTRegarding the demands of the 4.0 industrial revolution where every math educator must be able to adapt to technological developments and respond quickly to the COVID-19 pandemic, teachers should improve his capacity to use technology. The results of the analysis through partner exploration with a number of teachers who are members of the Mathematics Subject Teacher Conference (MGMP) for the high school mathematics of Bintan Regency found that there is still limited knowledge about technology so that the need for training. Through Community Service (PKM) activities, online training on Geometry Toolbox is carried out, it’s considered to have great potential to support distance learning. Through these activities, a learning video is produced which can be used as a distance learning resource. Four aspects of success of this activity are  general assessment, relevance and significance of activities, usefulness, and aspects of increasing the knowledge, understanding and skills of participants. The data obtained by distributing questionnaire using the Google Form platform and questions and answers during activity sessions. The results of this activity show that the online Geometry Toolbox training is going very well where participants have increased knowledge, an understanding of technology integration in mathematics learning and are skilled at using the Geometry Toolbox software in packaging learning. Thus training activities have provided opportunities for teachers to be able to carry out distance learning during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

Abstract

The continuous exploration of mathematics as a human activity triggers the need to research ethnomathematics. This study aimed to identify ethnomathematics in the manufacture of indigenous fish traps (Bubu) from Bintan Regency. This ethnography study uses direct observation, interviews, and documentation. The researcher acts as the main instrument. The data were analyzed using the Spradley analysis technique, namely domain, taxonomic, componential, and cultural theme analysis. Data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions were carried out for each analysis. The results show that there are mathematical activities in designing, counting, and measuring length dimensions in Bubu's making. In these activities, there are mathematical concepts, including three-dimensional figures, the net of three-dimensional figures, curves, odd numbers, sequences with their attributes, bilateral symmetry, symmetry axes, figurative numbers, the congruence of plane figures, and length measurements with non-standardized units. These results showed that the Bubu maker already had a geometric sense through the symmetrical concept that became the basis for two activities such as counting and measuring, similar to the results of ethnomathematical research on the Yupiaq Eskimo community in Alaska and the Carolina Islanders in Micronesia. This study provides ideas to utilize everyday phenomena in teaching mathematics as a starting point prior to learning mathematics more formally.

Abstract

AbstractThis research examines the effectiveness of online learning type blended learning in higher education. The integration of online learning was conducted by developing e-learning content for the Mathematics Capita Selecta course in the form of: teaching material, learning video, online assignment, discussion forum, and online quiz. ADDIE development research model was carried out involving subject of the second semester students of Mathematics Education Study Program in 2018/2019 academic year. The data collected were comments and advices from the expert about the e-learning content and student test results. The results showed that e-learning content was effective in achieving learning objectives on the subject of this study.

Abstract

Efforts are still needed to increase students awareness of the existence of mathematics in everyday life so that ethnomathematics studies need to be encouraged. This study aims to describe and examine more deeply the mathematical activities and mathematical concepts contained in the traditional canang game played in West Bunguran Barat, Pulau Tujuh , Riau Archipelago Province, as well as to remind the community of this traditional canang game. This game has spread to various areas in the Riau Islands, one of which is the area in Sungai Lekop Village. The subjects of this study were children in the Sungai Lekop Village, Riau Archipelago Province. This study uses a type of qualitative research with an ethnographic approach. The focus of this research is the basic concept of the traditional canang game and how to play it. In this study the researcher acts as the main instrument. Data collection techniques used are direct observation, interviews, and documentation. This study also used Spradley data analysis which consisted of several stages, namely domain analysis, taxonomic analysis, component analysis, and cultural theme analysis. The results showed that there were mathematical activities such as counting, measuring, playing, explaining/classifying, and comparing. In addition, there are mathematical concepts in the form of integer operations, comparisons, displacements and distances.
